Of course it's going to do well compared to other games, the question is how well it will do compared to other Pokemon games. Most series would kill for 5 million sales, while that would be extremely low for Pokemon.
Well Nostalgia pandering wins in the end, not surprising.
Well, I'm kinda worried if GF will just either keep making let's go games, or start taking let's go features and put them in the mainline games. I mean I'm fine with the overworld view of the pokemon in Let's Go, that's a feature I'm down with. Its just all the other stuff about the game I don't really think is good.
All I really want is just less Kanto Pandering. It just gets annoying after a while. I really want the 2019 games to do just their own thing without being tied down by constantly referencing Kanto again and again like the recent games have been doing. Hopefully doing Let's Go has allowed GF to channel it somewhere else for the time being.
Warrior to the very end! My tumblr, dood!I bet some of the guys working at game freak are like "Oh my god just let the Kanto end already!" As well.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."We need Hoenn 3.0 is what you're saying?
Secret SignatureMy only actual critiques of the games are fairly minor at this point. Compared to the pat mainline games Let's Go is undeniably simpler, but since its that way on purpose for a different audience I can't be assed to dislike it. Plus, the Let's Players I'm watching are still having fun despite being seasoned Nuzlockers used to much harder Pokemon romhacks. They are blind to the faults and have the same difficulty critiques that we do, but that doesn't keep them from enjoying the things Let's Go does well for them.
We need to visit Johto again

New theme music also a boxWe need more gen 7! It's not like gen 7 is still going on!
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."come to think of it, the Hoenn joke falls a bit flat when they remade Gen 1 that Gen.
Secret SignatureI said it once, and I'll say it again. If you are feeling burned out on the franchise and find yourself growing increasingly cynical about it, then perhaps the problem is not with the games but yourself. Whatever the reason may be, you've grown bored and cynical of the series and that point, I think it might be time for some people to simply jump off.
I don't see any reason for anybody who is not actively enjoying what the series has been doing for years to still be apart of it. This isn't saying "oh you just don't get it" this is an honest statement on how if you are not enjoying something, then you are not obligated to continue indulging in it.
So if GO's success is honestly bothering you that much, then it might be time to accept that the series just might not be for you anymore and that's perfectly fine. We all outgrow things eventually and move on to other things, it's simply a fact of life.
I myself still have no intention of playing Let's GO, at least not now, but I'm not about to rain anyone else's parade on who is actually enjoying it and if people like it and this is the direction the series goes, then so be it. I'll just go play something else.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Maybe they're just sick of Kanto.
Secret Signature...I'm going to say that I wouldn't seriously worry about the series permanently taking after LG unless it outsells gen 8
Kanto is, for better or worse, the most profitable part of the series. It's the part literally anybody will know about and therefore, the easiest to sell.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. Why would little kids care about Kanto? I mean that seriously, if you're a young kid and got into the series with a recent generation, then why would you care about Kanto and Gen I Pokemon more so than others? Adults who may of played the original games as kids all know about Kanto and Gen I, but why would Pokemon's actual target audiance?
Because they refuse to let us forget about it?
It's something of a self fulfilling prophecy at this point considering Go also opted to launch with just generation 1 monsters.
But now it's onto 4, so that's not really a good excuse, either.
Somewhat surprised we haven't gotten reports of kids being baffled on why they can't transfer over their Chikorita or Espeon.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences. That's basically the answer, yeah. Masuda actually said some things in an interview that he found the original 151 Pokemon to represent Pokemon as a whole the best and that he want all kids to have them as their first experience with Pokemon. I have no idea why even the creators themselves can't seem to move past the original game despite every later game also being highly regarded. I've never really seen that in another game series.
I suppose because the original game is how they got started and it's a creator based version of First Installment Wins.
I mean, for all it's flaws, we're all here right now because of Kanto right? That's where it all began. Maybe they just have a soft spot for that first 151.
One Strip! One Strip!I think we all are forgetting a hidden element in all this. When I was at gamestop, I found myself surrounded by adults all waiting around, some with their kids. Many were returning due to interest from their kids, or making it their child's first pokemon game.
Then it hit me. This game IS nostalgia. Air....for parents! Parents with kids who can actually play together on one game console instead or isolated files. The Veterans in this case are older folks with families. That's the untapped market gf is aiming for, a blend of brand new and old in one easy package!
What I got into Pokemon is Generation 2, give me more Johto pandering!
... okay, I got into Pokemon back when I watched the Generation 1 anime.

Yea, a lot of this game's success is parents experiencing with their kids what a lot of us went through in 1999. That's the easiest money making machine there is.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. The problem I feel comes with the fact that they can push Kanto as much as they want. Just... could they adknowledge that the other generations exists when it comes to keeping Pokemon in the mainstream? Everyone knows gen 1, but maybe they could try and show off the other regions as well? Like Kanto is undoubtedly the most popular one, but if they can get the attentions of millions with Gen 1, wouldn't it be best to also subtly sell the later generations of pokemon to the massive amount of newcomers GO brought in? It just feels as all of the other non-kanto games are elephants in the room at this point.
Pokemon's popularity is weird in that Gen 1 itself is mainstream, but the others, in spite of also selling millions to a lesser exent, aren't, and I feel as though now that GO has multiple pokemon from other regions in it would be nice to try and branch out the series's identity to being more than just Gen 1 while still having it in the spotlight for familiarity without forcing it into every other generation past Gen 5.
Sorry if it seems like I'm mad or anything, I just really like to talk is all! I'll try not to ramble so much with my posts.
Pretty much something like the way the movie is handling it would be good.

Warrior to the very end! My tumblr, dood!Detective Pikachu handles it well. Sure Pikachu is the star and gen 1 Pokemon seem to be the most prominent overall, but other Pokemon are there populating the world. They exist and bring exposure to some Pokemon that could be more popular if they were pushed just a bit more. Plus the big ones like Greninja get noticeable roles, both pleasing hardcore fans and helping to market other facets of the franchise.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.
I do too, but seeing so many critics genuinely enjoy even after the initial review wave is starting to make me second guess how much of that frustration is genuine realization that it's going to potentially set back the franchise's desperate need to innovate, and how much of it is just some nerd shaking his fist at people having fun.
Zelda had its Breath of the Wild despite Skyward Sword doing okay, so I guess anything is possible.
