Saw that on Inquirer.

Loony reason if you ask me.

And the orange dip shit blatantly disrespects the troops again. Seriously it is not a good idea to piss off your military and insult some of your voter bases.

Not surprised by the TBI type injuries given how much we now know about them and the relatively unseen damage caused by explosive blasts. Hopefully, the majority recover.

Duterte wants the VFA to be scrapped with DC 'cause his boy Bato's American Visa was voided and he cried on TV that he can't see his American-born/raised relatives. Most of his cabinet are yes men. The Secretary of Defense is a semi-yes man in a way since he said that the Senate doesn't need to be notified.

Only the Justice Secretary is the new Only Sane Man since he says that America has a sovereign right to declare void visas of any officials on their discretion.

Bit of crossposting:

In the long run of things as I'm looking for jobs back in Canada, I've also considered seriously working in the Canadian Forces as a reservist. My BA (and perhaps Masters if the application is not junked) allows me to be an officer.

Since I'm a dual national, my other nationality won't take it kindly if the government finds out...

A coast Guard Officer was sentenced to 13 years for a plot to carry out a mass shooting rampage reportedly in support of white nationalism. He was arrested last year and was just recently sentenced.

A Coast Guard officer who kept 15 guns and other weapons in his Maryland home and allegedly planned a killing rampage in support of white nationalism was sentenced Friday to 13 years in federal prison in a case that illustrated the difficulty of prosecuting accused, would-be domestic terrorists who are arrested before they carry out violent crimes.

Former lieutenant Christopher P. Hasson, 50, was indicted last year and pleaded guilty to firearms and drug charges. Authorities said he intended to embark on a murderous rampage targeting liberal politicians on Capitol Hill and prominent on-air hosts of cable news programs. Defense lawyers, who wanted Hasson released on probation, argued that he never would have committed the attacks.

Whether he ended up in prison, and for how long, depended on a judge’s view of how serious he was about a mass killing. After seven hours of legal arguments and testimony in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt, Md., Judge George E. Hazel sided with prosecutors.

“I agree with you that he was going to do these things,” Hazel told Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas P. Windom near the end of the day-long hearing. The government had argued that Hasson deserved to be locked up for a quarter-century.

For months before his Feb. 15 arrest, Hasson, who was assigned to Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, stockpiled guns, bullets, knives, smoke grenades and tactical gear in his Silver Spring, Md., apartment, authorities said. They said he immersed himself in bombmaking and sniper manuals, racist and anti-Semitic manifestos and the right-wing ravings of Norwegian extremist Anders Behring Breivik, who killed 77 in the Oslo area in a 2011 bombing and shooting rampage.

Hasson came under investigation after software used by the Coast Guard to identify internal threats flagged suspicious activity on his work computer. His Web searches at home and work showed he had been contemplating not only mass shootings but sabotage and other forms of mayhem, such as poisoning food supplies and releasing biological toxins, authorities said. They said he created a spreadsheet with references to targets, including prominent Democrats in Congress and hosts of MSNBC and CNN news programs.

More details in the article. The Defense was trying to say he would never carry out the attacks but he was stockpiling and doing questionable research in a manner that suggests otherwise.

He'll be 63 (or younger, assuming he gets credit for time served or some form of early release) when he gets out. Hopefully he's heavily monitored when that time comes.

France to send warships to support Greece in Turkish standoff

Greece’s prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has welcomed a decision by France to dispatch war frigates to the eastern Mediterranean as a standoff with Turkey over regional energy reserves intensifies.

With tensions between Athens and Ankara causing growing international alarm, Mitsotakis described the vessels as “guarantors of peace”.

“The only way to end differences in the eastern Mediterranean is through international justice,” he told reporters after holding talks in Paris with the French president, Emmanuel Macron. “Greece and France are pursuing a new framework of strategic defence.”

Mitsotakis was in the French capital on a visit aimed at rallying EU support at a time when hostile relations with Turkey have eclipsed all other issues on the agenda of his near seven-month-old government.

A review finds no “systemic” ethical failures in US Special Operations Forces. [1]

However, the review did identify some serious leadership deficiencies across the board that are apparently responsible for many of the issues these forces have experienced. Basically, the incredible demand for these forces in the Middle East combined with a culture that is overly focused on forward deployment has led to a breakdown in leadership, with troops often being unsupervised, and the quality of leaders being lower all over.

They should have sent a poet.

Most of the serious complaints I see from soldiers all go back to leadership problems, so it's good to see it being confirmed for once.

Also, apparently "fuck cooks" is an army thing, my navy friend says navy cooks are awesome.

Poor quality leaders, lack of supervision, and a overall breakdown of leadership sure sound like systemic issues to me.

Oh really when?

Poor leadership doesn't cause SS flags to appear out of thin air, though.

Not all of SOF is a horrible shit pile but enough of it has overt issues that are cultural not just leadership issues. It isn't just the SEAL's either though they are the most visible of the bunch.

To a point, yes. But the SEAL's could have done a much more thorough job of purging not only him but those that adhered to his way of thinking. They left too many behind. Knowing that their members had that sort of vulnerability to falling into his kind of thinking should have ridden herd on them more tightly.
