I think the IDW thing is more wishful thinking than anything else.
That's what I was afraid of...
I hope Pender's releases his Mary Sue chronicles and he's the only one who buys it
Honestly, if the worst comes to worst, that doesn't mean it's the end. The Fleetway comic survived with a creator-endorsed online continuation for over a decade after it's cancellation, and there's already a group of people prepping to do the same for the original Archie continuity, so if it's really cancelled, then that doesn't mean it's over.
But it'd still fucking suck.
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-Aroundbut but it finally appeared on my pulllist for next week after months of nothing....this blows....it utter blows
" I did the right thing, didn't I? It all worked out in the end." "In the end? Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends."I hated what the online Fleetway title did to Amy, they somewhat fixed it shortly before the book got indefinitely delayed, but it really got to me. Pure Idiot Ball.

In case anyone's interested, here's the online continuation of the original continuity I was talking about. They're already got a couple of mini-issues and a few covers out so people can see what they can do, and they're really not all that bad. Hell, when they actually start pumping out full issues, they might even be pretty good. So at the very least, there'll be something keeping the Archie Sonic alive even if the official comic bites the dust.

Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundOn a related note, there's this from their forums. http://archiesoniconline.com/board/index.php?topic=1158.msg24430#msg24430
"The book is definitely cancelled, and the reason why we haven't heard anything yet is because Archie and Sega were trying to reach a deal together, and because—like I said many months ago—Archie is stalling because of the potential PR nightmare right now while it's all hands-on-deck during Riverdale. My informant also mentioned that Jon Goldwater (the CEO of Archie Comics) has told him privately that eventually, they want to "get away from Sonic" because it's "not really Archie," despite how much of a money-maker it is. When I asked if, also, it was likely that Archie didn't feel like fighting back for the license, he explained that (as stated above) Archie has had one foot out the door for a long time for a number of reasons (ie: low sales of Sonic recently, bad decisions on other books like Reggie and Me only selling ~4000 copies, the Fulop lawsuit). He also inferred that Sega apparently wanted more money to retain the license, giving more reasons for Archie to not re-up.
Finally, he said he knows how annoying it is that Archie has still not clued the fans in as to what's going on (he no longer works for Archie and hasn't for some time, but he's spoken to people who currently do). So he obviously doesn't know when it'll happen."

The Protomen enhanced my life.Welp. You think they would at least release last part of this anniversary celebration arc. I know it's super-ironic almost to point of being cruel, but as far as I can tell comics like that usually close after filling up last hardcover, like Mega Man did.
Speaking of, according to our trope page and Wikipedia Mega Man is still "on hiatus." The wording is probably deliberate there cause if ti was canceled then they'd have to give refunds :(
The Protomen enhanced my life.
And the reboot only lasted a few years too...
Thank goodness we still have this. It was originally just supposed to be a continuation of the original continuity, but now it might end up being the sole continuation of the comic period. Which freaking sucks.
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundI'm just hoping that Ian Flynn will be allowed to release Lost Hedgehog Tales at last.
Wait, what "potential PR nightmare", the thing with Ken Penders or some other controversy I somehow don't recall at the moment?
Agh, why can't the series move to IDW already?!
@ anyone here who can contact this "doctorben" via that forum: the next time you contact them, can you ask them to ask their informant to ask about the possibility of IDW scoring the Sonic license?

Scott Fulop was also suing for the rights to get paid for reprints, and between the last main Sonic issue's publication on December 28, 2016, Archie has said NOTHING about the series or its future, nor did they offer a refund, but did remove subscriptions from their website and such.
As for IDW, while they did reprint Archie's TMNT Adventures series I don't know if they're actually making NEW stories for it, and those reprints took a long time to happen since the original series was canned. Sega apparently wanted even more money for the Sonic license, which Archie wasn't willing to pay.
...Considering how many licenses IDW has how do THEY manage to pay for it all? XD

The Protomen enhanced my life.Honestly, who in Archie Comics actually thinks that's such a great move?! Because spoiler alert, it's NOT a great move.
I have no idea. Maybe someone at IDW Knows a Guy Who Knows a Guy in Hasbro, Nickelodeon, Sony/Columbia, etc. and haggles with them to lower the licensing costs or something.
But really, if any of us goes to an IDW panel and they hold a Q&A, we should ask them how they manage to have so many licenses, because it's kind of amazing.
Welp. I thought my supplier was just late on issues again. Lo and behold the comic just isn't anymore. This sucks. This one was kinda special to me given that its the first comic I ever actually had a copy of. I picked up Sonic #50 at a Kroger's off the magazine rack as a child. Still have it, too, though its seen better days.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireHonestly, the older issues may not have been perfect, but as a kid, they just seemed fantastic. It was a comic with a videogame character I loved, and it had action and pretty pictures and lore and what have you. So even though looking back on it now makes it clear that a lot of it was actually shit, (with Penders and his Knuckles comic being the chief offenders,) it still meant a lot to me. And now, having come back to it, we ended up getting Flynn and the comic became genuinely awesome for 11 years straight. So seeing the comic get the axe without any fanfare after so many years of both cherished childhood memories and awesome kickass comics just plain sucks. Because it deserved better than this.
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundAt the very least they should make some story arc that lasts until issue 300. Because for a milestone that large you need to do something big and amazing.
I do imagine that in several years we are going to get an entirely new Sonic Comic that starts with number one.
And to think, most of this drama is the result of losing one piece of paperwork.
Always check your filing system kids!
What paperwork? What exactly are you talking about here?

Okay, it might be because I'm dumb, but I was just reminded of how we're getting a Riverdale book for FCBD rather than a Sonic book from Archie Comics.
I mean, is Riverdale really any good and thus, worth metaphorically throwing Sonic under the bus via suspicious cancellings?
And seriously, about that "Sonic and Mega Man comic licenses going to IDW" rumor, I would like to believe it, but does anyone know where it came from initially or was it just an educated guess that someone out there in the Internet came up with?
