I found a map that is steeply mountainous on the north half culminating in a volcano, and has a completely flat tropical moist broadleaf forest in the south half. A brook runs in the west. The area is very savage. Immediately upon embark, a herd of snailmen were ripped to pieces by my dogs of war. The highest peak is thirty-nine z-levels above the plains, so I believe I shall be building an Endless Stair with a floating castle on the top.

Awesome, rapture is doing well.
I'm working on a waterfall lighted dining room now.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Newbie to DF here, with a strange problem: I've created a wood stockpile, but my dwarves are not moving the wood i have into it, and are instead making the carpenter go fetch it. The stockpile is not full. Any reason why they're doing this?
Do you have wood hauling turned on for all your haulers, and are they not busy hauling other things? Also, is the wood queued for any other tasks?
Also, did Toady get some of the more debilitating bugs ironed out of the latest version yet? I'd like to give it a shot, but not if it means, say, a wrestler getting stuck on one opponent for three seasons.
The dev log definitely suggests he's been focusing on combat. There was a note about Bronze Colossi/material-based forgotten beasts being killable as of the next release.

Indeed, should be fixed tomorrow.
I'll have leather and bones soon, plus a bit of meat.
Most excellent, raptures future is brightening.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"So apparently dorfs' attributes steadily degrade over time if they're not exercised.
Civilians can't build up their attributes, only lose them.
Military can only build physical attributes, not mental/soul ones.
Yeah, I'm thinking I'm gonna hold off on this one until that gets fixed at least. I don't particularly want all my little maniacs turning into Otha.

oh come on :P it's not that important a flaw. hehehehe.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Yeah, they're all going to die anyways before you'll start to notice a problem.
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation. Not for me. Sealed fort. No enemies.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Um, maybe we're going by different definitions or something, but all my Legendary dorfs (armorsmith, mason, mechanic, et. al.) still becoming obsolete within four years sounds like a pretty serious problem to me.

Dunno, there's a workaround. Lemme find it and I'll edit into this post.

"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"If you really want Rapture to be sealed, why don't you just leave the immigrants above ground and periodically pump lava from the Magma Sea to kill them all?
I don't get immigrants.
My civ is dead.
That's what inspired me to go from my original Bioshock themed fort to a bioshock/Fallout 3 fort.

"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Tried it. Had no idea what was going on. Found out it wouldn't quit upon "x" button, or alt-f4.
Deleted it.
They really need to implement some way to encourage/discourage your dorfs from breeding.
EDIT: DF is a game where you need to read the manual, that is to say the wiki. Maybe watch a few tutorial videos. It really doesn't hold your hand.

My latest liveblog.^^ I laugh every time this happens to people.
I'm not taking off my pants for a forum meme. -Nornagestpoor anathme. it's really rather simple.
you just need to puzzle it out. and of COURSE the [X] button is useless. that'd be like saying it's OK to Save Scum.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"It helps to fool around a little in Arena mode before you try anything else.
nahhhhh.
I've hardly ever used the arena.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"I use it all the time, if I want to watch them kill each other in gruesome ways.
It's fun to spawn a Bronze Colossus and start throwing Magma Men at it one at a time to see how long it takes for the Colossus to melt. Obsidian, everywhere.
