Well, I'm now a temporary dog dad. We found this cute, cream-colored little thing lying down in the street and decided to bring it with us. So now, after much discussing, the little guy will be living with me for a few days until we find him a home.

I'll upload a picture later if I figure out how to do it.

EDIT: Cute dogs are always worthy of being pagetoppers.

Quick update on the puppy situation: I tried to take him for a quick walk. He looked at me for a full second, audibly sighed, then jumped back into his bed and decided to take a nap.

[up]I hope so too.

Puppers.

Started my first day at my new location. It is a very large data center building and it is a very industrial building. The downside? The client company is looking like they may be shutting it down in the next few years.

For about year at least. Not only better off but barring some issue racking up supervisor experience.

So ... I got in an accident today.

I'm fine. My car is not. And I missed gaming because of it. sad

Crumple zones: life-savers... And time-gobblers and/or bank account wreckers.

Damn Blue. It always sucks to have a car smacked out from under you. Hopefully you can find a replacement before too long.

Yeah, crumple zones save lives at high speed, but if you're in a low-speed collision they vastly increase the cost of repairs.

It wasn't a bad accident - I was doing 30 mph at best, but the other lady was almost stopped when it happened. Insurance company called this morning; the car is being totaled out because of structural damage to the suspension** . So now the wife and I get to go car-shopping for a vehicle, when we weren't planning to replace either one yet. Yay. Though maybe I can find something that will serve better when it snows again next year.

Had a traumatic moment this morning. We had snowfall last night, a few more inches on top of the foot and a half or so we've already got. I was driving to work, slow and careful, as I have had my share of snow-related incidents and know my limits.

And this guy. This pedestrian. Walked out into the street in front of me. Not at an intersection or any traffic light, not crossing the two-lane road but walking along it (Was the sidewalk not cleared? IDK), toward me, as I am driving downhill.

I didn't hit him. Mostly because I swerved into the oncoming lane (which was clear, thankfully) and it dawned on him that maybe he should wander back toward the curb. But not before I screamed and stood on the brakes and traction control kicked in as my car went into a slide. He showed no fear, no particular concern about any of it.

Ho-ly crap. I could've killed him.

Scion: Yeah when I was driving after the storm I saw about a half dozen really stupid pedestrians wandering in the streets. I had one guy start to step in front of me to jaywalk then change his mind at the last minute.

I am the proud new owner of a slightly used 2018 Subaru Outback.

Very slightly, even if it's one of the "2018" models that were sold in the debut sale that I think is now June of the previous calendar year. What happened to the previous owner?

Also I really want an Outback from I think around the late 2000s. It started out as a wagon and then we learned the term "CUV" and it inflated and now it's too much car for me, but somewhere in the middle it was just about perfect.

[up] No previous owner; it was one of the loaner vehicles the dealership offered to people getting car repairs.

I dunno if any Cobbies have seen the commercial for Stitch Fix commercial, but the blonde lady in it is my cousin. Saw the commercial at work a couple days ago and have been proudly stating the facts. I really hope Becca ends up making it big.

I hope I am feeling better by Monday. The youngest has given me the flu, and after calling out yesterday and today, I am out of paid sick hours for a while.

In five days, the period of Summer will end down here in Brazil. And when it does, do you know what the weather will be like?

WET.    Not cold, not warm, not windy, not chilly, not any other kind of weather. It will be wet and damp and gross, constantly, until July, whereupon it will suddenly be deathly cold for all of two weeks, if we're lucky enough to have it last that long. And then it'll be a weird mix of cold, warm and, of course,    WET    again until Summer drops by to have us be deathly hot for three more months.

I need to move to a temperate country ASAP.

[up]Here's hoping you get better soon.

Well, Nebraska's experiencing catastrophic flooding this weekend. Heavy snow cover + sudden, fast melting + frozen ground = overflowing rivers. I'm in no danger myself, but lots of folks, urban and rural, are dealing with everything from wet basements to washed-out roads to flooded houses. Fair chance the Missouri River will hit the 2011 flood level. And spring is only getting started.
