Suifeng had a similar case, where her Shikai was too good already, so they made her Bankai into just some random bomb.
I don't think her shikai is too good, it's a powerful effect but a very specific condition and it can be negated by reiatsu.
There are definitely ways her bankai could improve upon the concept. I'm sure Kubo just liked the irony of her actual bankai better.
I found this fan made video of the end of Byakuya's fight with As Nodt.
Yo this is like really fucking good.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Considering that Sui-feng calls attention to all the things she dislikes about her bankai, I'm sure is the case.
But, what do you think a bankai that did play up the original principle of the shikai would be like? Well, besides just "I hit you once, and automatically win."

That animation was really good.
Also Byakuya should have died at the end of that fight.
hit em once
Okay so I didn't actually think about that part but off the top of my head, it could be something that assists with the instant death move, making it easier to set up - either changing the condition by allowing the hits to be anywhere, or letting her move the hornet crests on a victim to make it easier to line them up, or being able to create hornet marks in a different way, so she can hit them once after the set up.
We know from her fight with Ggio Vega that it's not exactly about the marks since she had two attacks meet the same 'point' or instant death, but you could still say that either the injury or the hornet Mark is is a good enough target to aim for.
Alternatively, it could do something else with the marks on the target, so she gets some benefit the more marks she had on them when she activates bankai.

Her finger stab dissolves and then every hit she do makes a mark
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'm not creative so:
- Drones that she shares damage with, like Komamura.
- She can make marks on any surface, once two touch it's over.
- Each mark corrodes her opponent's body, Bankai's deactivation stops it.
you mean she can hit with any part of her body to make a mark? That's really cool, I like that
That's a logical escalation of her Shikai.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I do feel kind of like the nuke bankai was more needs of the plot than a good idea for her specifically
Although swords get petulant if you don’t like them so presumably the nuke would be less onerous to use if she had a better attitude about it?

Forever liveblogging the AvengersGiven how much Kubo puts into his characters I doubt he would have done that. Like, he wouldn't put the same detail into everyone but after seeing a breakdown of the mythological/religious references and symbolism in Tosen's character I doubt he'd just give someone a particular bankai to fill a need.
Especially since her Bankai doesn't seem to fit the plot particularly tightly? It's not like it was an Eigen Plot solution to something.
Soifon's Bankai fits her character perfectly
What Soifon likes to proclaim =/= Who she actually is
Soifon would like you to think she is reserved, calm, no nonsense and a master of you're already dead
In Reality, She's Loud, Obnoxious, Full of herself, Loves to toy with her opponent and has a Ego that could rival Aizen's... if she could actually back it up
So her Bankai becoming a simple point and click tactical nuke is her just throwing off all pretense and just being straight honest with you
Now I guess you could argue She might have a Renji scenario where her Zanpakto told her the Bankai... but didn't give her the full deal till She's mature enough to understand it
'As opposed to Renji having to be told his Zan was holding out on him XD
I finally got around to playing through the CFYOW side story on Brave Souls. I know this should be obvious from the prior translations of the novel, but wow Tokinada is a piece of crap. No wonder Tosen got screwed up.
Don't catch you slippin' now.Did we get Love's Bankai?
Oh, I completely forgot about him. 4~6 Bankais missing then.
How many more of these novels are there, anyway?
You know, Urahara's Bankai was cool but after seeing it, I don't really see why it would be bad for training or helping people like he told Renji. I wonder if Kubo originally had a different idea for it that he scrapped for whatever reason.
Come to think of it, it also had nothing to do with his Shikai, which was basically just shooting energy beams and making energy constructs.

A few have theorized that his Shikai and Bankai both revolve around restructuring, with his Bankai restructuring his reiatsu and his Bankai restructuring other things.
Don't catch you slippin' now. Finally finished volume two and the 2 volume 3 chapters on Trial Read, meaning I've read all parts of CFYOW legally available for free. I really wasn't expecting it revitalize my interest in Bleach as much as it did. Guess I'll be waiting for the translations like everyone else from now on since I'm currently not in any conditions to buy the 3rd volume.
How many more of those novels are there?
I believe there are 3 volumes, but I could be wrong.
Don't catch you slippin' now. There are four novels. Three for Can't fear your own world and one for We do knot always love you. Though Can't fear your own world has one hell of a Sequel Hook, which may have been alluded to in the manga and We do knot always love you.
- Aura wakes up in Hueco Mundo. As it turns out, since she was human, her soul passed on. She is in Hueco Mundo since the fake Soul Palace fell into Hueco Mundo or otherwise it would have destroyed everyone. Nel rescued her and healed her with Rokka. The castle has become a playground for the Piccaro.
- Harribel as it turns out has a soft spot for children. And children like her as well.
- Nel cooks some foot for Aura. Turns out there are non Hollow animals, water and other stuff in Hueco Mundo. They eat together with Harribel and Rokka. They ask Grimmjow if he wants to eat with them, but Grimmjow refuses.
- Nel basically adopts Aura. Aura wants to learn cooking so that Hikone one day will enjoy eating together with her. It seems Las Noches has become some kind of family. Harribel is the mother. Nel the father. Aura, Rokka, Ruddborrn and the Tres Bestia are the older children. The Piccaro are the younger children. Pecche and Dondochakka are the crazy uncles. And Grimmjow is the house cat.
- Grimmjow meanwhile begins to enjoy the fact that he has two rivals - Luppi and Ichigo. As he begins to plan his epic rematch, he wonders why Ichigo was not around during the fights. He then realizes to his shock, that it must mean Ichigo is enjoying a peaceful life.
- Meanwhile in Soul Society, the Shinigami are resting. Shunsui has classified the Tokinada incident as top secret. So, only the Shinigami involved will know about it. That means Kensei, Shinji, Kenpachi, Yumichika, Ikkaku, Nanao, Shunsui, Yoruichi and Urahara. Sui-feng, Hiyori and Hinamori are aware that something happened but lack the details. They talk a bit about his Hisagi.
- In the world of the living Hisagi finishes his interview with Urahara. Hisagi wonders why Urahara created the Hogyoku. Hisagi believes "that every Shinigami had the potential to break through their limits and achieve the same power as the Soul King and that Urahara had hoped to create a world where everybody would pool in their enhanced strength and work together in harmony in order to support the world". Hisagi concludes "Urahara wanted to liberate the Soul King and his actions were meant to be an eternal eulogy to the Soul King".
- Hisagi leaves to Soul Society and Yoruichi appears in her cat form. She wonders if it is really such a good idea to just let Hisagi go. Yoruichi argues that as a journalist he may have become too involved into matters concerning the so-called "esteemed lord". Yoruichi says that Hisagi must be silenced. Urahara remarks that this isn't like Yoruichi. Yoruchi argues that she is not talking about killing Hisagi at the very least that Urahara should erase Hisagi's memories or rewrite them.
- Yoruichi also reveals that she and Urahara arranged for the death of Tokinada. Tokinada had learned too much about this "esteemed lord" and it seems the two made sure that the little girl found Tokinada and killed him.
- Urahara reveals that Hisagi was completely and utterly wrong about him. He says to Yoruichi: "I just wanted to create something new. My objective was to fling open a secondary new door. I merely used the Soul King as an excuse and a key to open that door...All I did was live according to my lust. In that sense, my origins are no different from those of Kurotsuchi-san, driven by the insatiable appetite for research at the expense of plenty."
- Urahara then muses whether he will end up as a villain and if Ichigo and Rukia will have to stop him. The reason Urahara let Hisagi be is because he want there to be people to punish him for his sins if he ever crosses the line. He then asks Yoruichi to punish him too, if that happens. Yoruichi tells him she will kill him.
This is 100% tied to what Kubo told Narita and Matsubara about Urahara's and Yoruichi's backstory. Something so incredible that they both agreed Kubo has to tell it in manga format. Perhaps that was actually what Urahara's last words alluded to in the manga, when he fell in the fight against Askin. Urahara did admit to Askin that he would gladly destroy the world, if he were the one to create a new world. It might also explain why Urahara was unable to attend Rukia's and Renji's wedding.
It is left ambiguous whether this "esteemed lord" is the Soul King or someone else. Soul King seems likely, but after that, they call the Soul King just Soul King. Either way, it seems there is still quite some mystery left regarding Yoruichi, Urahara, the Soul King and whoever that esteemed Lord is. But it seems that Urahara had told Yoruichi and that lord that he would create the Hogyoku to help the Soul King and only now admitted that it was a lie.
Luppi is alive?
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
The only thing we know about it at present is, oddly enough, its weakness - when used on someone who hasn't already been affected by the Shikai, it simply doesn't work at all.
