Something I've been wondering. Let's say the Shinigami swords had no special abilities and they were just limited to flash steps, kido and swordsmanship (and whatever other unique abilities they had like Komumaru's lycanthropy or Yoruichi's cat shapeshifting and her mix of kido and shunpo). How well would you have liked Bleach? Would the battles still be interesting to you?

You forgot Hakudo (unarmed combat). tongue

The Four Shinigami Arts are Zanjutsu (Zanpakuto (sword)), Kido (Functional Magic), Hoho (Flash Step) and Hakudo (unarmed combat).

Yes. My interest was in character philosophy and the Quincies.

For example, the Grand Fisher arc and the Uryu introduction arc: those two arcs alone provided all the clues necessary for me to guess that Masaki was a Quincy (and probably connected to the Ishida family), that there was more to her death than the Grand Fisher, and that there was a secret organisation of Quincies that was probably hiding from the Shinigami as a whole but which Urahara knew something about.

And that was all before Rukia was kidnapped by Soul Society.

I was therefore always more interested in the Quincy/Shinigami history than anything else and I always expected a Quincy arc to happen at some point.

And that was the point where Kubo became too ill to continue so wrapped it up as fast as possible. Oh, well. That's life. tongue

Regarding the Shinigami, I really do wish the Four Arts had been fleshed out more than they were. I really liked them, especially Kido and Hoho.

Another thing is that the Zanpakutos being alive makes Yoruichi kind of seem like a jerk for not using hers. It wasn't even like the whole thing about the swords being living creatures got much development outside of filler arcs.

I wouldn't like the exclusion of Zanpakuto since I do like the idea behind them, though further expansion on the other abilities would have been nice.

It was stated in the novels that once you leave the Gotei, you have to give up your Zanpakto. This something that was so far stated multiple times in various novels. Tokinada in Can't fear your own world, Omaeda's father in Spirits are forever with you, Byakuya's grandfather in Death Saves the strawberry. The last one might have been from a databook though.

Yoruichi had to escape within short with Urahara and the Vizards. Unlike them she didn't bring her Zanpakto with her, so it most likely got confiscated.

Anyway, Missstormcaller has translated a new chapter.

http://missstormcaller.tumblr.com/post/177210168272/cant-fear-your-own-world-vol-ii-part-5-full

Here are the main differences to the previous translations:

- Tokinada is actually happy about Ikomikidomoe being rebellious.

- Ikomikidomoe likes Hikone, but hates Tokinada. Either because the Zanpakto doesn't like nobles or because it only respects hybrids.

- It seems that hereditary Zanpakto like Ikomikidomoe and Shinken Hakkyoken were not made from Asauchi. Which also may mean that they were made in the old world. This of course begs the question, what the Tsunayashiro Zanpakto can do.

- Mayuri used the zombified captains as bargain chips to allow the continuation of his corpse squad. Though attacking Ginjou may have gone too far. Either way Shunsui is non too happy.

- It was after Shunsui became head captain, that he learned about the dark secrets of Soul Society and what it truly meant to sacrifice morals for the protection of Soul Society. There are things he doesn't like, but he has to wonder what ugly things he may have to do. This is not about cutting someone like Starrk to win the war. But rather things like sacrificing Ichigo's future, abandoning Orihime to the Espada, killing thousands of innocents to stabilize the balance or to be ready to kill your own subordinates. Shunsui initially thought that Yamamoto was too rigid, but now that he is in his position and has his burden, he realized what kind of questions Yamamoto constantly had to answer. Shunsui wants to take a different path than Yamamoto, but he came to understand him more and at the same he realized that there was much more to him, than he had thought.

- The Kurosaki family is in west Japan. It is the number three hot spot for Reishi activity in Japan. Apparently Tokinada's group has launched an attack there. Coincidentally it is the place furthest away from Tokyo, where Karakura town is located. So they will be there for the next few days. Same for Rukia, Renji, Orihime Chad and Uryuu, who came in rushing once they heard there are problems.

- I made a mistake with the part from friday. I said that Uryuu was still around, based on the discussion between Shino and Yuki (the rookie Shinigami from the beginning of the arc). They talked about asking the Quincy Ishida for help, but declined because they find him scary. It seems they mixed up Uryuu with his father. That would explain why Ishida was around the hospital so often, because it was Ryuken Ishida. So Ryuken is definitely around and may do stuff, but who knows when he is done buying cigarettes.

- The time frame of their absence may give a hint for the length of the events of the novels. If Narita really wants to keep them out, then the remaining books will cover only a few days. But if he doesn't want to keep them out, then it will be longer than just a few days. It is most likely the former. So if you are fans of the core group, you will be disappointed. Well I don't mind, since besides Hisagi and Shunsui, the focus is on the former enemies of the Shinigami.

- Yukio is working with Tokinada and Aura for reasons unknown. Though he is aware that this will be morally iffy.

A new chapter of Can't fear your own world has been released. This actually concludes the second book. Serialization for Can't fear your own world 3 will start in September 28. I think we should get a few new sketches in the mean time. Anyway, even though this was done by machine-translation, the information this chapter revealed was insane.

     part 12 - final

- Luupi's aspect of death is 'Destruction'. He was chosen over Cirruci and Dordonni as Grimmjow's replacement for that reason. This also implies that Luppi used to be a Privaron Espada.

- The aspect of death is what remains of a human once they become Hollows. While not outright stated it is that aspect of ones person that drove them to become Hollows in the first place, the thing that allowed to maintain their sense of self as a Gillian and what drove them to evolve even further. It's the only thing that remains in their empty hearts and the one thing that could possibly fill this emptiness. In Grimmjow's and Luppi's case it is an urge to destroy. Their very existences were that of slaves, dominated by their constant destructive impulses, which they repeatedly succumbed to, seeking salvation.

- Aizen egged their rivalry. He didn't care whether Grimmjow or Luppi would survive. He had planned to preserve the corpse of the loser.

- Zombie Luppi and Grimmjow seem to be of equal strength. Luppi can fire eight Gran Ray Ceros at once. He also still has all the drugs in his body. Though they are not as effective as against Hitsugaya, because Grimmjow has developed a high poison and drug resistance thanks to surviving Askin's poison.

- Grimmjow's and Luppi's fight gets really intense and is filled by fear and ecstasy on both sides. It it's unknown who would have won, but before they were able to destroy parts of the Seretei, it gets interrupted by Ikone and Shinji arriving.

- After some confusion it seems that Shinji, Luppi, Ginjou, Tsukishima, Na Na Na and Grimmjow have to team up against Hikone.

- Ikomikidome's Zanpakto spirit has a very haughty and divine presence. It seems his personality is similar to Barragan's. Either that or Ikomikidomoe has the exact same voice as Barragan. One would think the first is more likely, but with all the crap that Zanpakto can do, one can't say for sure.

- Nozomi Kujo's Zanpakto 'Arazome Shigeru-lit' exists or at some point existed. It is unknown if Nozomi Kujo herself exists. Spirits are forever with you mentioned that the leader of project Spearhead was in fact Ōko Yushima, which actually doesn't contradict anything. That doesn't mean that the Reigai arc is canon. Shinji was the one who made the comment about the Zanpakto and he was not present during the arc. So in other words, there used to be a Shinigami over 100 years ago with that Zanpakto. That Shinigami might have been Nozomi, Yushima or some random Shinigami.

- Ikomikidomoe has at least two (possibly more) Release commands. The first is 'Orbit the stars' and allowed the Zanpakto to transform into a Vasto Lorde. The second one is 'Inscribe the funeral'. That one summoned a huge Adjuchas, made of thousands of Hollows, who is even bigger than Komamura's Bankai. Hikone rides the Adchujas like a horse.

- Of course Mayuri wants to capture that thing. Though he knows that this is definitely a trap.

- Meanwhile Sui-feng is trying to arrest Tokinada, since he among other things killed her men. She confronts him im in the Surveilance Bureau that is controlled by the Tsunayashiro family. Tokinada then mocks how Sui-feng's siblings all died.

- That didn't work. But the one thing that did get a rise out of her, was when he proposed to simply take Yoruichi as his wife, because Yoruichi suffered at Urahara's hands and he lost his wife, which would make them the perfect match-up.

- It seems that there may be more to Sui-feng's hatred for Urahara. According to Tokinada, Yoruichi suffered because of Urahara. This may just be talking about how Yoruichi had to abandon her, the whole incident with the thunder cat transformation or something yet unknown.

- Despite what one might think, Sui-feng has no respect for the aristocrats above her. Or rather her job as the head of the punishment squad made things like standings and status irrelevant. Yoruichi is the one and only exception.

- Yoruichi then appeared and rejected Tokinada's proposal. This made Sui-feng 'very' happy to the point that she momentarily forgot why she was here in the first place. One interesting thing is, that Tokinada seems to already see Hueco Mundo his domain, since Yoruichi said she would have to go to Hueco Mundo for the wedding.

- Yoruichi still has her Zanpakto. It's apparently very strong but it prefers that Yoruichi uses hand-to-hand-combat.

- Tokinada begins to engange Sui-feng and Yoruichi. He releases his Zanpakto. The relase is called 'Venerate'. For those who forgot, the name of the Zanpakto is Kuten Kyokoku.

- We get a flashback to Tosen's and Aizen's past. This is shortly after their first meeting. When Tosen first joined Aizen, he was rather suspicious of him and correctly guessed that he would be just a pawn to be sacrificed later. Aizen even had proposed to him, if he felt unease in his presence, that Tosen should just kill him.

- Aizen either wanted for Tosen to rise to the top, so they could be there together or to be the one, who would one day cut him down (ie the the position Gin held eventually). Of course, given the events of the main series, those feelings eventually faded away. Aizen furthermore was jealous at Tosen's fear and wanted him to 'teach' him fear.

- Tosen was eventually captivated by Aizen's brilliance, radiance, strength and charisma. Though even then he doubted whether his path of vengeance was really just. That changed when Aizen told Tosen the truth about the original sin of Soul Society. Aizen from that point on was genuinely interested in the path Tosen wanted to walk.

- Aizen is incapable to see things like good or evil.

- The Soul King is the forefather of the Quincy.

- It is 100% confirmed. The old world was the one without death, the perfect one. Aizen from the very beginning rejected that, because the existence of everyone would lose meaning. Instead he wanted to become the lynchpin of this world, a symbol of all the sins committed by the Shinigami. The Rei-o, who is also a sacrifice, must, in his own words, fall out of heaven.

- The ancestors of the five noble families amputated the Soul King.

- The existence of Fullbringer is connected to the original sin. To be precise, that the fetus is so heavily affected by the Hollow even though it was inside its mother's body.

- Rangiku is very important. Aizen feeding a large part of her soul to the Hogyoku caused a very strong reaction, which allowed the Hogyoku and Rangiku to respond to this so-called 'nail/claw'. The 'nail/claw' is the only reason Rangiku is still alive. That she was still able function as a living being, let alone a Shinigami was completely and utterly unexpected by Aizen. Aizen didn't even know that this 'nail/claw' existed. Though at that point he was already aware of Urahara's Hogyoku.

- Tokinada is the one, who made sure that the existence of Fullbringer was kept a secret.

- There is some complicated connection between Rangiku, the existence of the Fullbringer, the lynchpin, the Hogyoku and the dismemberment of the Soul King. And by extension also the Quincy, Hollows and Shinigami. Even though the Hollow element, according to Urahara, should have nothing to do with the Soul King.

- As a token of Tosen's loyality, Aizen will fulfill whatever wish Tosen has. The book end with Tosen saying "My wish is..."

Missstormcaller has translated a new part.

http://missstormcaller.tumblr.com/post/177699306957/cant-fear-your-own-world-vol-ii-part-6-full

- The Wandenreich was a hyper-competitive place, where the Sternritter always viewed to outmaneuver and outperform each other. It was kinda a dog-eat-dog environment. Liltotto is unique in that regard, because she is one of the few Sternritter who would help others (though going by the manga, Robert, Gerard, Askin and Mask de Masculine are also similar in that regard). It seemed to be that way in the manga when Bazz-B shot at the Femritters to steal their kill. Then when Robert suggests they share the glory equally, Liltotto says only one person who kills Ichigo will get the glory. Since Yhwach doesn't like infighting and probably wouldn't promote this behaviour, the Sternritter themselves decided this was the right way to be acknowledged by Yhwach, when it probably just helped him decide that they weren't worthy of joining him in the Royal Palace. It does explain why no one, not even Liltotto, was particularity bothered by what what Bazz-B, because this was just the way things worked. Mind-controlling and trying to actively kill your competition is crossing the line though, hence Liltotto was pissed at Pepe. Would also explain why the Schutzstaffel has a different aura to them. They are not competing against each other. They are already worthy, so rather they have to show that Yhwach didn't do a mistake, hence Gerard is more chummy with the others than with Askin. Or why Bazz-B could easily teamp up with Liltotto and Giselle. It simply didn't matter at that point if they were competition.

It makes one wonder though how the Sternritter outside the Femrittter would treat each other, now that the need for competition is gone. I hope we will see some other Sternritter comeback. This does make Giselle even weirder. On one hand she killed Bambietta to further her own goals, on the other hand she also did to prevent her from being eliminated and executed, since she doesn't want Bambietta to leave.

This is now like the third time, that Liltotto was singled out as different from the usual mindset the Sternritter have. While this applies to Giselle and Bazz-B too, with Bazz-B it is only in relation to Haschwalth and with Giselle it only serves to make her more bizarre, while with Liltotto one gets the feeling she is the most normal of the Sternritter.

- This has nothing to do with the chapter, but according to Missstormcaller, Giselle's sex seems to be deliberately played up as vague. As of this moment it is unknown. Perhaps if she meets Hikone, who is neither male nor female, we will learn more. Also Liltotto being a Tsundere is confirmed.

I'm glad Kubo realized his passion for drawing but I hope he prioritizes his health over it. While I don't like his writing, I love his artwork. Rarely does an art style stand out to me, Kubo's is one of those exceptions. I wish he'd team up with a writer but we'll see, manga is a lot different than Western comics.

It seemed that way long before that. From the very beginning of the final arc, in fact.

The manga makes it very clear from Yhwach's first entrance that Yhwach is very disingenuous regarding the attitude of whether or not he likes his men fighting among themselves. His words may frequently claim that (for example, just before he killed Luders and Ebern), but his actions are always the opposite. When Uryu points out the consequences of Yhwach announcing a newcomer as his successor will create discord among the ranks, Yhwach is pleased that Uryu realised and questioned it even though he chastises Uryu for not thinking things through a bit further (i.e., to why Yhwach would want Uryu as a successor at all — which conveniently changes the subject away from the fact that he used Uryu to deliberately incite discord among the ranks). And Haschwalth points out to that woman that the consequence of Yhwach's announcement (the discord among the ranks leading to everyone keeping such a close eye on Uryu that Uryu will be trapped by his position) is so obvious that Yhwach intended it for his own reasons. We also know that the Vandenreich is full of bickering, but also that they try to keep it away from Pepe who seems to act as an 'eye' for Yhwach — either way, it's obvious that Yhwach sets up and invites discord among his followers — by setting it up and then claiming he doesn't like it happening, all he's doing is actively making it worse (and, as Uryu notices and Haschwalth observes, it appears to be very deliberate).

The only thing Yhwach ever really objects to is for the fighting to happen right in front of him. When it comes to in-fighting and mistrust happening behind his back (so to speak) Yhwach actively manipulates events to ensure that's exactly what happens among his men.

Yhwach is not the man who never lies. He's the man who lies with the truth. He is exactly what Aizen warned Ichigo about just before the Deicide mini-arc kicked off — Aizen told Ichigo that truth and lies don't matter, that all that matters is the reality a person makes for themselves. In short, understanding a person's reality enables someone to understand what they're really saying. Yhwach deliberately obfuscates the context of what he says to turn the truths he speaks into lies by manipulating people into interpreting his words through their own reality instead of identifying his. That way he can legitimately claim to be telling the truth while ensuring people don't actually learn the real truth until it's far too late.
