Apparently she calls the two siblings out on their BS. It's a bit different from the "Oh well, can't do anything about it now, please be happy!" thing everyone else fell back on.

Manganime in general has this morbid romance with awful and disappointing endings.

Part of me just wants to say 'Shit series got a shit end'. Oreimo was at best a guilty pleasure to me, and the pleasure only came in when Kirino or Ayase weren't shown, so... not like I really care about this at all.

Got a lot of interesting metaphors from this for sure, but one of the better ones I've read was "If the writer was a pilot, he took the parachute and bailed, but failed to save the plane."

I kind of Thought it would be more clever than this. Basically the anime felt a lot like it was flirting with it's subext but at the same time had the kind of ironic distaste to see that it was bullshit. But apparently I had too high expectations and it was just incestshit after all.

I've come to suspect the Japanese overall expect far less from their endings than us Westerners. They don't seem to rage like Western otakus every time a non-conclusive, loose-end abandoning finale gets made. In Western entertainment, endings like Ranma's, Negima's, School Rumble's or Oreimo's would pretty much torpedo a creator's career down.

Arilou: Highlights of that (from the Chinese spoilers, from pages 346,347 of their version):

  • Manami: "I did say 'I'm coming here to fight'"
  • Kyousuke: "......what......"
  • Aren't you talking about a fight with words?
  • I totally misunderstood! How could I have gotten it! This is not a battle story!
. . .
  • Manami: "Since it seems like no one said it. I shall say it clearly"
.
  • Manami: "It's creepy for siblings to become lovers. Not normal. Abnormal. Alot of people will be creeped out."
  • Manami: "It should already be obvious to you but, siblings can't get married, your parents won't allow it, Even if Kirino's feelings become more and more real, even if the older you grow the more they won't change, it will just lead to sorrow. It's something that can't be helped, even if it's you Kyou-chan, you can't change a thing about this."
  • Manami: "So, Kirino-chan, Kyou-chan, it's enough right? Let your dreams become a memory and look at reality —-"

And yes, it does end with an actual fistfight.

Manami: "A'VE HAD IT WITH THIS MOTHERFUCKIN' AGGRESSION IN MAH MOTHERFUCKIN' SIBLING FRIENDSHIP!"

My problem isn't how the events pushed the ending to this: these events could potentially turn out this way. What I have a problem with is how in the first season, Kyousuke clearly wasn't attracted to his sister, which was the whole point of what the show was trying to get across: not everything about otakuism is what it seems on the surface! NOW, this ends with Kyousuke being VERY MUCH attracted to his sister! He was NEVER a siscon!! Hell, in the anime's second season he constantly calls himself one! Ass!!!

So the series became what it was trying to deconstruct. Interesting way to look at it.

I wonder how the anime will handle that.Since the whole Tokyo Law,there has been some sort of witch-hunt against stories containing incest, but apparently only if the incest is portrayed in a positive way.Yosuga no Sora managed to get away from being blacklisted because they portrayed it as something wrong with a bittersweet ending.

Well, fuck. That ending spoiler retroactively ruined most of the enjoyment I got out of this series.

That's interesting, most of the Kirino shippers despise Manami like poison. In any case, Kyousuke has been a siscon for such a long time now, I almost forgot there was a time he wasn't one.

Maybe I misinterpreted the point of the show. The point was to have Kyousuke understand his sister more, yes? But they went overboard. Now he loves his sister TOO much, and NOT in the healthy way.

I'm actually okay with that ending if those spoilers turn out to be true and accurate. I wish they would take it all the way but aside from that I have no issues with it.

I'm not trolling. I'm legitimately fine with that ending aside from the fact they didn't go all the way with it.

My thoughts on the spoilers: That's not a proper ending.

I suggested something like this back on page 33 but this realisation of that ending kind of sucks.

It's not an open end, but neither is it a conclusive ending. It has more or less explicit incest (rather than subtext - not actual sex obviously) but then it combines the worst elements of an open and an end in which every girl loses.

I guess it somewhat resembles the Ranma One Half ending in which there is a wedding which doesn't actually lead to a winner as well. Thinking about it, I suppose if Kyousuke turned down everyone else because he said he loved someone else, and then he [[spoiler:ended his relationship with that girl, then that may count as an open ending.

Well I'm still hopeful about the end of the anime because if they do another open anime end followed by a true route, I may actually prefer episode 12's broadcast ending to the ending of the light novel.

Or at least, I hold out more hope for it than for the time skip chapter coming out with the BD.

Episode 10.

Ayase is being weird. Careful Kyousuke, I think you almost broke her. Apparently that first part takes place before last episode.

"eliminate that thieving cat". Nice Ayase. I like the elegant simplicity of your thinking.

That's also some nice modesty Ayase has got, seemingly believing it unthinkable Kyousuke broke up with Kuroneko for any reason other than her. Isn't this like that effect where you miss [the admiration of] someone whose abscence you thought you wouldn't notice. I' m sure there's gotta be a trope for that. Sounds similar to when people delinerately play hard to get for attention.

Kanako, Bridget, Ayase and Kyousuke. That is all. I love the dynamics of this group. Wish that segment lasted longer.

I think in the past Kirino may have refused to admit Kyousuke was her brother, showing up like that.

Whew. I thought it would be all drama from here on, but this was like one of the fun otaku culture episodes from last season.

I was somehow expecting it to go on for longer, but of course with the benefit of foresight we can see the ended it there for foreshadowing.

So some people have apparently the blu-ray exclusive extra chapter "The 10-year Reunion" in their grubby hands and... It answers nothing, really.

The conceit is that a 25-year old Kirino comes across her old recordings of her "life consultation sessions", which were recorded in the first place for "herself in the future". Kirino listens in nostalgia, and comes up with "solutions" to the problems her younger self were grappling with (thanks to hindsight). At the end of it, Kirino gets the urge to visit the website she, Saori, and Kuroneko set up for their doujin game, and makes a post, hoping that Kuroneko would notice and they could finally catch up on lost time.

So yeah, those expecting answers or some kind of closure, you're out of luck.

[up] I kind of expected that. I'm actually glad it's not more bittersweet, aside from the fact that Kirino and Kuroneko haven't seen each other in a while.

I probably would have been more annoyed had the bundled chapter been plot-critical.

Still, about episode 10: ready to start shipping Kyousuke and Kanako yet fillerdude? Although, I'll grant you there was much more Ayase ship tease.
