During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

If Graves ''isn't' trying to use it on a global scale, then honestly I'm inclined to vote no. My bias against Scott Pilgrim aside, he's a bit too 'implication-y' with the women for my comfort.
Likewise...Zola is striking me as a bit too reliant on some fridge horror and a bit too light on details for me to feel entirely too comfortable with him going up.

Switching to abstain on Gideon.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadSame reason as Irene. Maybe I'll check for myself but he seems a bit short on onscreen evil and character for an incarnation of Zola.
I... might agree, honestly. Like I said, my vote depends on how in-your-face the intention is... if it can be interpreted elsewise, I'm a nay.

@Scraggle Pretty serious. We see that Gideon has gained control over their Subspace and they are incapable of doing anything since they are frozen. His fifth girlfriend was frozen in 2003, meaning most of those girls were frozen against their will for who knows how many years. But i'm totally okay with how the votes go, i'm just really weirded out by this Mandela Effect.

Then maintaining my yes...that alone sounds nasty enough.
Things are really about to get Fun around hereWell, yeah, nasty between the lines, but is Gideon literally throwing out implications he's sexually abusing them, or are those totally unstated?
Like I said the film reals show more than enough. And he nerates each and sounds extremely excited with each horrific act. He also has a great deal if screen time and character towrd the middle and end. He tries to put up with front of politeness, but as Steve keeps getting closer to stopping him he becomes more and more unhinged.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadZola I might be more okay with, but for Gideon, I feel there's just too much left to implication.
Aside from a creepy and sadistic "I love them". The rest is left for interpretation.
I'm just happy that i decided to check my own book. At least we still have a conclusion on him.

Yeah... unfortunately, I have to say no to Graves, then.
To say I'm enormously happy you've let us know there was an error in the EP is an understatement (this is probably the most obvious sign of progress among many from your first few effortposts I've seen from you). Thank you for letting us know there was information that still needed to be considered.

Btw, Cr0w, legitimate thank you for being up front about this. I'm sorry to have to downvote it, but the honesty and double checking is very cool of you.
I wasn't even thiking about the sexual abuse thing. I just Thogut Freezing several girls in place for years was bad enough.

Things are really about to get Fun around hereSuppose I'll switch to an abstain.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."Awww, my friends. I learned a lot with my past mistakes, and i still appreciate all of your advices to me.
to Gideon. Abstain on Zola for now, he seems a bit lacking but I'll give it some more thought.
Well like I said before I'm not sure if Zola counts or not. Thanks for the feedback. If anyone has a suggestions for me please pm me. Because I really want to improve at this.
Edit: Also I gonna have to take a small break from this thread as my trip starts tomorrow. I'll see what happens with Zola when I get back.

Switching to abstain on Gideon.
So...is freezing girls in place for years not unique to him or? Cause I'm really not seeing why sexual abuse is needed.

Things are really about to get Fun around hereGideon can't be a CM. He pulled a Heel–Face Turn in the Weridmaggedon finale.
@Username. Pffft.
Things are really about to get Fun around here@ Lighty: Oh, yeah definitely, MCU Zola isn't anywhere near heinous enough. I must say I did not mean to suggest anything else.
I think the Game!Zola EP is missing out crucial details, like how every Hydra soldier you meet is hopped up on his rage inducing BS, but I might have to take matters into my own hands... when I'm not lazy.
I... maintain my position on Gideon. I mean, a thousand mental assaults or a billion? Unless someone else tries that, he's still bad enough, right? Like, how much of a pattern is there? How many victims is he stated to have thus far?
Go ahead. I'm still not that good at this, but I am trying to get better.
