[up] Was that the one with the anime guy who goes back in time and keeps dying?

It's a Dark Souls-alike set in Japan's Sengoku Period with monsters from Japanese mythology. It's on beef's channel. He started a mostly blind LP of it with him playing and 'betus watching along, similar to what he'd done with Bloodborne.

Getting caught up. Can't believe they didn't call it Sacrificial Victims Unit.

I don't know how I confused Shadow of Destiny with Nioh XD; Maybe I mixed it up with Nier.

And now the....exciting conclusion? A pretty downer ending because Jack gets away unpunished.

But I share their pronouncement that this game is completely devoid of merit. Even Dark Seed 2 and other bad games had SOMETHING. This is just total shit.

Jack is easily one of the worst protagonists that 'beef and 'Betus have ever encountered.

...What even happened? It really is one of those things where I forgot it pretty much even as I was watching it. That's so bizarre, because... So much animation, so many painted backgrounds, a soundtrack that seems like it might have actually used live instruments for a game that came out in, what, the '90s? And for what?

...and then it just ends, out of nowhere, with a bad guy I only even remember seeing once getting knocked flat on his ass in what has to be the world's narrowest office.

Though that did open up that amazing bit where one of the soldiers walks *around* the cop, stands directly in front of his raised gun, and only *then* points his own gun at him. Flawless blocking, guys, very naturalistic.

I've missed him. He doesn't look so bad after Halligan and Orlando.

The last video on Jack Orlando has the guys explaining just how much of a nothingburger the game is and I agree with them.

I posted this at the RP guys on Twitter. Hopefully they see it cause this game/longplay of the DS game based on the 2009 A Christmas Carol movie is hilarious! Half of the fun comes from how long it takes for the puzzles and the other half at how strange the game's events must be in-universe and the convoluted attempts at interactivity.

Highlights in the first 8 minutes include the LPer repeatedly interacting with a cat, capturing a ghost, and generally acting like a poltergeist, which given the story is appropriate at least.

EDIT: Bahahaha, the second major stage is to make Scrooge's walk home utterly miserable, and after about 400 failed moves in a sliding block puzzle the LPer tried again and solved it in 5 moves. Then when Jacob Marley showed up Scrooge dismissed him and fell asleep so the player has to wake him up.

Then after the Ghost of Christmas Past stage, when the ghost of Christmas Present appears Scrooge is like 'nope', locks the door and barricades himself in his room so the player has to repeatedly scare him to get the key, but they keep failing at it. Then after the player takes about 20 MINUTES to get that door open the game is like 'Scrooge was powerless to stop the door from opening.'

[up] That sounds pretty great. Plus it's been so long since they've done a regular retsupurae.

They apparently just went to MAG fest but nobody recorded it I guess? Slowbef has mentioned it a couple times but nothing about their panel on their channel yet.

[up] There's no commentary, but the game, the player's mistakes and the very dry narrator are really funny. They also outright gave up on another block puzzle and did hilariously bad on a rhythm game.

As far as I know, the Shadow Game "panel" was just "go to a bar and buy drinks for everyone" as with last year, so there wasn't much to record?

It's the latest episode of Retsutalk. "We're back! (?) We catch up on everything that's been going since the hiatus before starting another hiatus. Minor spoiler warnings for The Last Jedi, Detroit: Become Human, and probably some other stuff. Also a little E3 happened (this was recorded before the Sony/Nintendo stuff)."

They're back! Following up on the amazing success of Over Blood, they couldn't help themselves, they HAD to experience the sequel.

A YT Comment: "I looked it up and Over Blood 2's director, designer, and writer, Akihiro Hino would later go on to be CEO of Level-5 and create the Professor Layton and Dark Cloud series. Humble beginnings indeed."

This looks, impressively, so much worse than OB 1.

So there's an interesting comment on one of the best R Ps eve "Mario, Party of One?"

"As a friend of Josh IRL, I figure it's been long enough now that I can give my story on this video and where Josh is now. [WALL OF TEXT INCOMING]

I can't remember if Josh found this video first or if I did, but I do remember us watching it together, speechless (we were recording a co-op LP of New Super Mario Bros. Wii at my house at the time). Josh definitely responded better than I did, going along with the "GO JOSH! PARTY!" at first, rather than me responding along the lines of "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? STOP BEING MEAN RETSOOPUREE!" but hey, I was just a 14-year old unable to comprehend my best friend's newfound internet popularity.

Josh continued LPing after this video in the same way (he played Super Mario Galaxy, Minecraft, Mario Party 2, Pokemon Leaf Green, Pac-Man World 2, and I Wanna Be the Guy (which you can blame on me for getting him to play), with one-off videos on Super Smash Bros. 64, Brawl, Happy Wheels, and probably some others that I'm forgetting, with me appearing in a few videos). He also did another Mario Party 2 video titled "IT AIN'T A PARTY OF ONE ANYMORE!" with another friend in which they played through Space Land again (using direct capture this time).

Though after a little while, some people wouldn't let the "Josh has depression! GO JOSH!" joke die, and Josh eventually had to address it in one of his videos. But people didn't stop, with at least one person commenting it in every one of his videos. I think it might have been a combination of that and maturing enough so that his older videos were a little embarrassing to him that led him to delete his channel.

With that said, Josh isn't dead, he doesn't have depression, nor did he have it 5 years ago. Even when he first got the attention and when it was just a few people, he didn't seem more depressed or angry as a person. I can't really speak much about how he is right now since I haven't seen him since we graduated high school a year ago.

Also, this retsupurae is still a really touchy subject for him, so I'm not going to give any more info about him. Even though he's probably forgotten about this video by now, the last thing he would want is for the "DON'T KILL YOURSELF, JOSH!" joke to come back to haunt him.

Well, there's my novel of an explanation. Hopefully I was able to add something to the info already available and hopefully confirming that Josh is not dead nor depressed will lighten the mood."

As one person responding to this noted, this is probably why RP switched to commenting mostly on shitty games instead of shitty gamers.

It's also just an overall trend I've noticed. If you knew anything about Something Awful from about ten years ago or so, you'd know it was big into "trnasgressive humor." Slurs and personal attacks galore in all LP's and you saw plenty of this in RP's, too. Now SA is a pretty Leftist forum so I never took any of it seriously but folks like slowbeef and other LP'ers from back then have clearly shown regret for their older material.

It's just an interesting thing to note for me. It is probably for the best all things considered.
