Go To

This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

TV Tropes,

I appear to be suspended from editing. I was unaware that I was doing anything wrong but I would gladly appreciate it if you could fill me in on what you suspect I was doing wrong.

Please do not run text replacement plugins on TV Tropes, they vandalize the wiki text.

Fighteer, I simply feel that nobody told me of such a conversation when I was editing. A simple alert to my issue would've suited me well, and being banned from discussion didn't exactly help my case.

I seem to have been suspended from editing. I actually know why, too. It's because I never put new pages I'd create into indexes. I apologize, as I didn't think that was a strictly-enforced rule as much as a guideline. If I can have my editing privileges back, I will put every new page I create into its proper index.

[up] That is indeed the reason for your suspension. Indexing is required when a new page is created; also, when you receive one of the notification messages about an editing issue, you need to take heed of them and, if necessary, seek guidance on what needs to be done to resolve the problem.

May I please have my edit privileges restored? I was edit banned for over a year ago due to removing web original pages on works that had non-existent links to the actual work. Thus viewers reading the pages usually had no idea if the work actually existed at all. I should had explained in my edits why I deleted those pages instead assuming everyone would understand my reasoning. Also I should not deleted those pages without seeking community approval first.

Hi my edit privileges have been suspended for what I assume was the back and forth going on the batfamily character page. I think I was making clear my reasoning behind the edits but is pretty obvious it got out of hand, so I apologize for that.

Having said that I'd like to know what will proceed now and if I could have my privilages reinstated at a later date.

Well that was unexpected, specially since it seemed to me everything was going in a civilized manner. Regardless, I apologize for it.

Any form of back-and-forth over examples, even "friendly", requires conversation between parties in some other place than the edit reasons. This applies especially when it's over competing fan interpretations, as was the case here.

I see. To be honest, sometimes I find hard to enagage with other tropers regarding editions and additions to the trope page since a lot of the works I follow lack a forum thread and in my experience, opening an edit discussion goes ignored most of the time.

What's done is done though so I can only compromise myself to seek that kind of feedback the next time and apologize again by the situation.

So, what will happen now with my suspension?

I would like to have my ban lifted. It was becuase I was going back in forth on a moment from Web Animation/RWBY that I felt should've counted as a What An Idiot moment, but apparently, no one else thinks so.

~Trope Licious: Not so fast. I think we've established by now that you are incapable of understanding that What An Idiot is not about your personal standards of credulity. That you continue to shoehorn examples of that trope where they don't belong speaks amply to that fact.

You have a choice: be permanently banned from the wiki or never touch that trope again — no adding examples of it, no discussing it, nothing. It no longer exists for you.

sad[up]Usually, I don't shoehorn. I promise again to not shoehorn. I just strongly felt that I thought it was a legitimate example. Please don't ban me, but please don't go that far to not allow me to not add any more examples to it. And I promise to be capable of understanding what the trope "What An Idiot" is.

I am genuinely sorry.

That would only fly if we hadn't had a very similar conversation two months ago. Repeated suspensions for the same or substantially similar behavior are grounds for a permanent ban. I'm giving you one way out. Take it or leave it.

[up]sadI really didn't think that I was shoehorning. Please still allow me to put examples, but don't ban me. You're making me sad. I almost feel like I want to cry...

Stop. You made pretty much the same arguments before, and yet you continued to misuse the trope. So why should we believe that you will do differently this time?

I was suspended for a conversation I was having with two others in the Spider-Man thread. My first post was rude because I felt one of them was insulting, but after that post was thumped, I was more polite as I tried to explain how and why they were insulting. One of them ended up personally insulting me and then tried to tell me how it wasn't an insult (no, really). After that, all posts were thumped and I was suspended.

I would like to appeal my suspension. I'll try to stay on topic more and not let jerks pull me out. (But really, they were jerks.)

[up]I really didn't think I was shoehorning. I just didn't understand the concept of shohorning. I'm not lying.

I didn't put the Yoda thing from Revenge of the Sith back on What An Idiot, so that's one thing I learned.

So please don't ban me... :'(

"The Characters/Megamind edit you made looks like it violates our spoiler rules. Trope names (on work articles) and names of works (on trope articles) are never to be spoiler-tagged, nor should spoiler tags be used in folder names or in above-the-line descriptions." It is true that I did violate this rule, but I didn't realize it existed.

I suspect I am misunderstanding the rule. There are myriad times when it makes sense to spoiler the trope name in work articles; just look down the Spoilered Rotten index for examples of tropes whose presence is a major spoiler (with the details being incidental). There are also plenty of examples of other trope names being spoilered, due to the trope itself revealing the spoiler; for instance, GURPS Alternate Earths (which I happened to be reading around when I learned about my suspension) has a trope name spoiled under the Gernsback entry. If someone could explain the rule I broke, I would greatly appreciate it.

TV Tropes, I appear to be suspended from editing. I was unaware that I was doing anything wrong, but I would gladly appreciate it if you could fill me in on what you suspect I was doing wrong. I'm assuming that it was because I was inserting too much of opinion into my revisions on the YMMV Pokemon Anime section, but I'll refrain from doing that or visiting the Pokemon sections in general in the future if that is the case, apologies for any inconveniences. Thanks and sincerely, The Call Out BS Man

~The Call Out BS Man: Yes, 'twas that campaign on the YMMV.Pokemon Anime page that got you suspended. Complaining campaigns are generally not advisable behaviour.

~Great Wyrm Gold: Spoiler tagging trope names is forbidden by the Handling Spoilers policy; no exceptions at all.

~alliterator: Please take note that it is not acceptable to be rude in forum conversations at all, especially when a moderator has just said to cut back with bickering.
