French Emet-Selch - Eilias Changuel - is incredible. He has a deeper voice that sounds both eloquent and sarcastic, it is an absolutely perfect fit. I also preferred the French take on Meteion, who sounds a couple years older while still firmly being a pre-teen.
As for the Scions, my faves are:
- Thancred: Eng
- Estinien: Fre
- Y'shtola: Fre
- Urianger: Fre
- G'raha: Eng
- Alisaie: Eng
- Alphinaud: Fre
...but it's not by a huge margin. Both dubs are very high quality overall.
I always wished the devs could have all of ARR redubbed, but that's a ton of work and probably super low on the priority list.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.and Oh since the topic is here, how would you two describe JP Meteion and FRE Meteion in more detail?
And expensive. But I would love to hear Michael Mc Elhatton do Gaius's speech.

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. Also I think there is a person or team responsible for translating the script from Japanese, and this is whoever has the most influence on the dubs.
The English and French scripts differ wildly in spirit. In English there is a lot more antiquated speech and formulas, and a lot more reliance on Shakespearan-like style - and not only for Urianger.
French is much more casual. Again, I doubt you'll hear a boss say "I'm going to fuck you up, you bastards" in the English dub.
Meteion in English made me think of...a kind of vengeful spirit? Her voice sounds more supernatural. In French, she sounds like a frightened (and later weary) child, but one that you might reasonably hear in real life - it's less high-pitched. Here's a run of the level 90 dungeon in French with her voiceover.

I have heard most scripts follow the JP version than ENG. But at least the ENG and JP writers have to work closely according to Yoshi P.
Is Haurchefant a pervert in French? He is in German.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Oh yeah he's thirsty. But he also had a pretty horrible VA in ARR - it changed in HW.
His final line, word for word, is "You have such a beautiful smile...Try not to forget mine."
JP Meteion is definitely theatrical, I would say. Or at the very least, dramatic. Endsinger Meteion uses a lot of poetic turns of phrase that at least match, and sometimes even exceed, how dramatic she is in English. Regular Meteion is a bit less fragmented than in English, though that's also because Japanese lends itself more easily to that.
I will say that Hermes' Japanese voice is very gentle, and you can feel a lot of emotion in it.
It's been fun. This is hearsay since I don't have a source, but the head translator dude might have gotten in trouble for Omega's Larboard/Starboard bullshit since that specific obfuscation apparently only exists in the English text.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I did compare both voices during the Aetherial Sea scene, and JP Fandaniel is far more sad and on the verge of tears when he talking about how life means nothing to him and he found the answer in killing.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. And every enemy attack that uses a left/right mechanic has not used the starboard/larboard naming scheme since then.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order. What's funny is that the Omega fight wasn't the only time that showed up. A Eureka boss that needs to be farmed for progression does the same type of attack, except it's a worse since the names are Sinistral and Dextral. Who the fuck knows what those mean? At least people tend to be familiar with the term Starboard.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I really don't think it's that big of a deal, but I guess it was since they changed it. It's not like this game has ever been supremely readable with its boss mechanics anyway, so it feels like a weird one to get hung up on.
It's been fun.It overcomplicates a mechanic that you have very little time to react to already (you have to readjust to the second cannon immediately after the first) and is meant for casual content. Plus it sucks getting Omega in roulette and you suddenly find half the raid dying and/or suffering from two Vuln Ups. Especially when playing healer.
With the way the attack is designed you'd think it was meant for the Savage version of the fight.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Uh, I do? I thought the word "sinister" having its root in the Latin for "left" due to negative beliefs about left-handedness was somewhat common knowledge...

Trans rights are human rights.Eh, I find the bosses that have minute changes between the names, or names that are all essentially the same thing (hello, Panda 2 with your Sewer Deluge and Sewer Torrent and Torrent Deluge) much harder to keep track of. People not knowing about Omega's one-after-the-other mechanic and positioning too far away from the center line to swap after the fact is much more likely an explanation than people not knowing what starboard means.
It's been fun.x2 I first learned the terms by fighting Luigi and looking them up after the fact. Might be a cultural thing since I'm American. Was super confused when there wasn't an AoE marker and suddenly found myself frozen. At least they're short ranged cleaves.
I still mix the Panda 2 ones up, but at least they're either raidwides or delayed AoEs that give you time to adjust. And the Savage fight has a flow that makes it easy to remember what happens when without relying on castbar names.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Where does one find the sidequest that reveals Scarmiglione and Barbariccia's backstories?
Song of the SirensThere's a lvl 90 quest near Vrtra's palace in Radz-at-han.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Aside from Larboard/Starboard, the worst poetic choice I saw was in Zadnor when fighting the wolf which has two mechs, "The Storm within", unscripted AOE inside its hitbox and "The Storm without", unscripted donut AOE where only the hitbox is spared. Problem is, since the name is too long, it gets shortened to "The Storm with...".
I think I did it once since switching languages, and it was "Tempête intérieure" and "Tempête extérieure" or something similar - and the difference was correctly displayed.

Huh, I never had that problem myself. Though that may be because I habitually focus target on bosses and their cast bars display longer there.
It's been fun.I do too, the boss' castbar is in the middle of my screen on my UI and it looked like this.
Biggest twist in 6.2: Scarmiglione is a catboy
Song of the SirensUnrelated: I can't find a headband glamour. Not one that goes on the forehead, one that goes over the head. Are those only with haircuts?
I think so. The closest thing otherwise is the Frontier ribbon.
i. hear. a. sound.
No, it's really just him! Granted, other lalas like Lolorito do have deeper voices than you would realistically expect for their size, but none of them are as egregious as Yuyuhase - especially because that's the first and only time he has a voiced line in the entire game.
It's been fun.
