To our newbie BLM, what server are you on?

A tip for later down the line (read: Heavensward and beyond), Besides Astra Fire, another mechanic to try and keep up as much as possible is Enochean, as it allows you access to spells more powerful then the Tier 3 spells and are actually meant to be spammed like those spells.

More generally, for cases where you have to fight multiple enemies ina party, use Fire II and/or Flare (I'm not sure on how useful Freeze is nowadays)

In other news, turns out my i2501 problem is resolved. So now I'm back, Back in black.

At LV 68, you get Enhanced Freeze, which gives one Umbral Heart. Since the spell is AOE, it's great to spam it at big groups when under ice while also gaining hearts for your fire attacks later. A much better spell the ground target AOE bind that it used to be.

I soo, so does one save the Umbral hearts for the transition from Ice phase or shotgun them in Fire Phase?

You don't use hearts when casting ice spells so they're only really used for fire spells.

Do not spam Freeze, that's crazy. Just use that single Umbral Heart on a discounted Flare and actually kill all those enemies instead of saving up for some vague future where you could just use Blizzard IV instead.

At level 68 Flare consumes all your hearts no matter what so there's no difference between 1 and 3.

My main role is Healer, specifically Astrologian, but I like to switch things up on occasion. I recently switched from Summoner to Black Mage as my main DPS class because the big boomies are more fun, despite the greater punishment for screwing up the rotation. I still use Red Mage, aka Easy Mode Caster, in instances where I'm less confident but don't want to heal for whatever reason (well, not heal full-time; sometimes a party needs a Rez Mage), usually so I can roll Need on Caster drops.

So I was thinking I'd grab the Complete edition bundle while its on sale and wait a few weeks afterwards to redeem it when I can better take advantage of the gametime.

The regular one is 30 AUD, while the Collectors Edition bundle is 55 AUD.

Is it worth paying the extra 25 dollars for the extra stuff? I know its mostly cosmetic.

Unless it's the expansions you're paying extra for, it's all cosmetic, except for the Helm of Light which will increase EXP by 20% if you're level 10 or below, but levelling is piss easy at those levels so it's not really all that great.

Collector's editions usually give you stuff like exclusive mounts and glamours. You don't need them, but the editions are the only way to get them. You can still upgrade to a collector's edition later on if you want the items.

While we're on the subject of Stormblood content, As someone who skipped the xpac entirely (though thanks to the recpa page I am aware of the general events) certain events...like say Alphinaud's buying katanas without asking for the price. Look like a Noodle Incident that begets explanation

You really shouldn't have skipped Stormblood, it's pretty good.

Stormblood is a low point.

Which doesn't mean it's not good. Just, distinctly less good than Heavensward and Shadowbringers.

I'm kinda an impatient man, and I got the gist from reading the wiki's pages (Liberate Ala Mhigo and Doma, defeat Zenos, find the Scions get Isekai'd to the First, battle a Doman Garlean named Yotsutu who pulls a Ysayle, and find out the the first Emporer of Garlemald is an Ascian. Oh and Gaius is back to give the Paragons a piece of his mind and thus pulled a Heel–Face Turn)...

Which reminds me, does that make Gaius a Char Clone by any chance?

Getting the "gist" of a story is generally not the point, imo.

Edit: Perhaps this is a flaw with the educational system, where getting the gist of the book you're reading to earn a grade is the main point. No one is asking you to write a book report proving that you got the gist of this video game.
