Alaqa was acting in Ishgard, it only stands to assume that it was Ishgardian racism was the cause.

The fact that she was trying to create a Zombie Dragon kinda helps that fact along quite a bit. When you see her again in Gridania the situation is completely different with absolutely no racism present anywhere.

There's quite a few ironies on the first regarding how races have grown

The Dwarves are obvious

Drahn were The First's Ishgard, and it adds a double layer when you consider the ruling family were Xaela. There's also another level of irony when you consider that it seems Galdjent were also a dominant part of the kingdom Voeburt, since on The Source Roegadyn were proud pirates or cloistered off mountain folk, depending on clan.

Elves were part of a kingdom that pretty much fell apart, unlike Ishgard and (technically) Gridania which is ruled by Wildwood families in both circumstances, a lot of elf "culture" now seems to be banditry.

Miqo'te/Mystel are seen as barons for their Talos crafting and empowering, to the point where two major characters are nobles and given the trailer a lot of Mystel were able to retire to Eulmore as Free Citizens, compared to the relatively low-tech survivalist both subraces on the Source are.

Viera are pretty much the same, but we don't see much of the Source's Viera culture. And Ronso are basically as common as Miqo'te on The First, while Mystel seem relatively rare, as opposed to Hrothgar on the Source being a new thing.

I was looking for a place/trope to name all the odd contrasts but I petered out on finding one.

I still love that Mystel/Miqo'te were used to represent the decadent Eulmore society in the trailers n'stuff

they're literally fatcats

There's also that sidequest where a gang of Ronso are giving a Mystel shit for not being big strong miners like they are. Basically, racism in the form of natural born size.

The Viis seem to be just as reclusive as their source counterparts the Viera tbh..but for entirely different reasons and seemingly the Viis are far less hostile about it because their reclusion is out of duty.

And once they do make contact theyre far more welcoming of outsiders than the Viera

I'm just imagining how the Wo L compares how each race is different in the First. Quite a lot of culture shock i'd imagine.

Yeah the Viis may be hostile but prove you're a friend and they will welcome you without a second thought. Undying Loyalty to ancient dead Ronka Emperor and all.

It kind of feels like the Viera on the Source had a similar thing, but over the years, forgot why they kept those ruins free of intruders. Of course, knowing what's buried in Orbonne, it would be the right call even if they didn't have an accord.

It's been fun.

The Facet crafting quests for BSM/ARM/GSM actually deliberately compare the beast tribes on the Source and the First to inform the items that you come up with to craft.

With the game doing so well, I'd be surprised if there WAS another FF MMO in the works.

XI was their most profitable game of all time prior to XIV.

It probably won't be for another decade or so, but we will have another one eventually.

You can tell how successful this game was just by seeing the advertising campaign for Shadowbringers, Anime commercials, billboards in Times Square, Tomm Holland and Hedy Buress, ETC. It should also be noted that the team behind it is willing to work on it for years to come, i hear despite looking perpetually exhausted Yoshi P would never want to be assigned anywhere else.

It's pretty amazing how closely-knit the FFXIV dev team is, and how much they love working on the game. How many game devs have you heard of where the team worked in secret on certain models so they could surprise their boss with something that would otherwise not have made it in-game (in this situation, I'm refering to the dev team modeling glasses for viera and hrothgar so they would be the only headgear visible on those races)? Can't be many examples of that at all.

I hope Square Enix realizes what a golden goose the XIV Dev team is and takes steps to ensure their comfort. I mean Bioware used to be all about making great games, now look at them.

Took Summoner for a spin, and I only just noticed that pets don't seem to be targetable anymore. Which I suppose explains the deletion of skills like Sustain, but I found to my disappointment that Titan-Egi merely got a shield skill to make up for the fact that the tank pet can no longer tank. Can't help but wonder how that'll affect low-level solo stuff for people who have yet to try the job out.

I also ended up using my Astrologian for the first time since Heavensward. And I have to say, I'm also rather disappointed with what they seem to have done to the job. I can't tell if they did this during this expansion or the previous one, but AST's cards are just so boring now. I mean, I know that Balance was (almost) always the best card to get in any situation, but that doesn't mean you should just turn every card into a mini-Balance. They even got rid of the card manipulation stuff like Spread and RR. They kept Redraw, though, just in case you wanted to draw a different color of your 6% / 3% damage buff.

Not that kind of fan service.

I mean the non-stop Final Fantasy fan service, which gets a little distracting here and would be especially bad in a game like XVI that hopefully has its own story to tell.

@Irish Zombie: All you really need to know about low-level Summoner class quests is that the majority of the 15-30 class quests still assume you have Topaz Carbuncle to tank for you. Topaz Carbuncle can no longer tank. No changes were made to address this.

It's been fun.

Oh that kind of Fanservice, I am pretty sure that is just an MMO thing honestly. FFXIV has soooo much content that drawing from an expansive mythos is a necessity, it isnt alone in that though.... all MM Os with a franchise attached to them do that.

FF wise umm Cameo Bonus Bosses in XIII-2 and some costume cameos in LR is all they did in those. FFXV had the XIV event quest and that was it.

So someone on Reddit was comparing Marche of FFTA to Emet Selch, saying that the two are similar because both wanted to return home because they're "stuck in another world".

The two characters could not be any more different in personality and goals.
