I do think there's the possibility they were the original creator of gunblades and the Garleans retro-fitted them to suit their advantages in aiming and lack of aether control, it would fit with their MO of "Take what we want from your society and twist it to be ours."

It's also possible they could be the beast-like race that Solus said threw a primal at them to justify the change from republic to pro-conquest empire.

[up][up] Garlean's are also from northern Ilsabard, so they are neighbours at the least. Hrothgar probably were involved in the hotbed of Imperial activity there somewhere either as the initial aggressors or another province annexed by them.

Also some Zenos backstory is floating around from the Chronicles of Light book apparently his mother died young and his dad left him in the care of tutors where he was deemed a genius but he couldn't connect with anyone and thought of all the servants as automatons. Later Varis brings in a sword tutor for him from Othard, who beats him a lot but Zenos quickly progresses and imitates his sword techniques even piercing his palms with crystals (Something said to be extremely dangerous) to simulate the magic involved. The tutor basically goes ballistic about a Garlean learning his secret moves and tries to kill Zenos and of course Zenos kills him and then he basically is inspired to find a way to surpass the limits of his Garlean body.

Sounds like his sword tutor is a dumbass and Varis is a bad parent.

The idea of being to emulate aether manipulation by stabbing yourself with crystals was pretty interesting though, I figured short of becoming a resonant there wasn’t any way to use magic if you were a pure-blood

Course it sounds stupidly dangerous, but in story speak that’s more like a “bring it on”

Its also kind of neat to note at how much a disadvantage Garleans really are without magic since even "mundane" martial disciplines like fighting with a sword are honed with using a form of aether and magic in mind.

Yeah, I actually did some research into how samurai work, basically the aether for it is stored in the sheath, so when they use iajustsu, what they’re doing is recharging the aether that lets them hit so hard, which is why their strongest hits are the ones directly after drawing, presumably that giant golf bag of a sheath Zenos uses is basically a magitek prosthetic that let him do the same when he was still a normal Garlean.

But yeah, just goes to show there really aren’t any “mundane” jobs in the setting except for machinist.

Even machinists use aether. That's what the boxy thing on their waist does, feeds aether into the gun/ammo to produce extra effects.

Basically, EVERYTHING uses aether to some degree. That's why we aren't gonna get playable Garleans no matter how much the Garlean fanboys/apologists kick and scream.

Since garleans obviously have aether and just can’t use it, otherwise they wouldn’t have souls, I figure machinist is the one class that’s Badass Normal enough a Garlean could use it, that’s mostly why I single it out, since the purpose of the job is giving the smallfolk something to fight with.

In other news: it looks like the list of zones found in the site suggest the entirety of the expansion’s new content and zones are going to be in Novrandt, I’m at work so I can’t fetch the list but the listed zones have their counterparts to the Eorzean zones named.

You are correct, theoretically Garlean's should be able to use the aetherotransformer and Machinist abilities since they do have aether and it is supposed to be strictly user friendly machines with no real need to mold aether for spellwork.

I'm home now so let's follow through on what I said earlier:

Rak'Tika = Shroud, Ahm Araeng = Thanalan, Il Mheg = Coerthas, Kholusa = La Noscea, And Lakeland = Mor Dhona, no sixth zone yet but there's likely to be one that will spoiler-related like Aszys Lla.

Part of what I found so curious about all five/six zones being on Novrandt is that means that Eorzia and the war with the Garleans has the potential to slip Out of Focus, which is especially odd since they said we'd be settling things with the Garleans this expansion.

Fully nude Namazu is a concept hostile to all thinking creatures.

It's been fun.

Someone on Reddit noticed the preview render for The Lost got sneakily changed since yesterday, the fangs are sharper and not black, the ears are shorter and don't clip, and the overall face-shaped has been changed to look a bit more expressive.

It may be a poor pick of a customization options, or it may have been a case of them picking an older model, but it seems to drive the point home to not be too judgey until we actually get our hands on the character creator with the Benchmark, because they may still be WIP.

Yeah, Viera looked pretty bad too back in the first trailer in February, but a lot of people that were angry about Hrothgar that wasn't related to them not being Male Viera was them looking unfitting and unfinished, which now is apparent that, well, they are unfinished and they're still working on them

I remember some time ago when some random twat on Reddit claimed Shadowbringers was already finished and the devs were just sitting on their ass until release. I think the change of the Hrothgar models say otherwise.

Also they use the pastiest Rava Viera for the official render, looks the same clan as as the Veena to be honest.

Yeah, people are a bit salty about that, they should have done both extremes of having a Rava be a dark-skinned beauty to constast the Veena being pale white.

A lot of people aren't considering when Square said that both new races are going to have way more customization options built in, and aren't counting the difference between clans of already playable races, like how Sun Cats can be dark skinned, and Moon Cats has skin tones that make them blue, but both races have Caucasian skin tones.

Yeah, I mean its obvious your going to be able to make the rava much darker but they really should have put that foot forward when presenting so they two clans at least look distinct.
