Okay, if this was just a new LL and a starting position for the Vampire Counts, I'd consider that kinda neat but not be too interested.

But now those maniacs actually made a whole new faction out of it? I gotta admit, that's pretty darn cool.

Based on the Steam screenshots, looks like we already know who the second LL is.

It's Count Noctilus.

Also, lore question: how do the zombies use guns? I thought that only the Nehekharan-style undead get to use missile weapons?

There was a short army list of sorts called "Zombie Pirates" in the White Dwarf over a decade ago. They were basically drowned sailors who kept on raiding after Luthor Harkon resurrected them.

Though Zombies are not normally known for their ability to shoot straight (or at all), Harkon long ago wove an enchantment that allows them to do just that. However, even the misused magics of the Slann have a hard time making soggy and waterlogged black powder weapons discharge with any reliability.[2a]

So, we've got unbreakable gunpowder units. That's gotta smart.

[up] Except that they're bloody inaccurate due to being zombies. Which you compensate for by piling on even more guns.

Vampire Coast is basically Warhammer Fantasy's answer to the concept of MOAR DAKKA. [lol]

Scholar of Sotek - a Warhammer-focused YouTuber - actually goes over the trailer and explains the lore and sources behind all of the shown units. The video's an hour long, though, just a heads-up.

So after the "historical" Total War titles got a Steam Weekend Sale last week, this week's Steam Weekend Sale is for the Total War: Warhammer franchise.

(Though I'm not bothering to put in a link anymore since Total War: Warhammer I is the only thing that's at 75% off—not counting the paid DLC, because of course.)

https://academy.totalwar.com/vampire-coast/ So, we now know what Harkon's skill tree and abilities will look like. The silhouettes have me interested. The one to the right is obviously Count Noctilus. I don't know much about her, but the one with peg legs is looking like Aranessa Saltspite according to some. Naturally, some are already throwing a shitfit over it.

Why do people have a problem with her as a Legendary Lord?

Yeah, that's my assumption too but I wanted to know what superficial reason people were using to justify it.

Ah, so nonsense then. Creative Assembly has already demonstrated that they will happily use little-known characters and personally I love it. Frankly, anyone who doesn't like it should be used to it now and should understand that sometimes they won't get characters they like.

Well, there's also the slightly less nonsense "She's not undead" bit, but it's not like the Vampire Coast is swimming in relevant characters.

That's slightly stronger, still, the Vampire Counts have Heinrich Kemmler and Helman Ghorst so there's clear precedent for an undead faction to have human allies/members.

Also, Apparently Harkon had a habit of handing out "gilded ebony skulls" that allow anyone to call and control his undead crew, so maybe Aranessa got her hands on one of those and is now using it against him.

Well, if I were to take a wild guess based on my experiences with the Total War community, it's because she's a woman.

What? If you're talking about the Rome 2 thing, that was mainly a bunch of alt-righters trying to stir the pot, while the Total War community overall told them to piss off.

And the main reason why people seem to have an issue with Saltspite is because she seems like a bit of an odd choice for an undead pirate-centered DLC, especially since in the source material she was part of a pirate alliance opposed to the Dreadfleet.

We'll probably get an explanation for the choice, though.

Ehh, should be no worse than having Arkhan as part of the Tomb Kings. Besides, they need to do something with Sartosa, anyway.

She's probably the Arkhan of this DLC, i.e. a lord using a mixed unit pool.

[up][up][up]A cursory glance at the discussion surrounding Aranessa on the Steam forums suggest that many really are being pissy about it because of the whole "woman" thing.
