Final Fantasy general

Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

If VIII was made today, it would totally star Zell.

Zell would be better liked than Squall as Squall is a trouble teenager with issues who express himself as being "detached" from everything.

"We are just like Irregular Data. And that applies to you too, Ri CO. And as for you, Player... your job is to correct Irregular Data."

Squall is pretty popular in-universe since he is pretty good at what he does even if he's detached.

In fact, the cool loner vibe he gives off is what attracts Rinoa.

I like Squall because he's annoyed by all the supporting characters, making him the most relatable character in the game.

Wait, why's everyone speculating that IX's cartoon is going to cover anything besides the main game? (Honestly asking.)

[up] Well for one, the Castlevania cartoon covered stuff outside of 3,

2, speculating possibilities, like we literally don't know anything besides the game being adapted.

and 3, it would be fun to see some world building.

It would be nice if Necron had some more buildup so they’re less of a Giant Space Flea from Nowhere. That and maybe expand Freya’s character arc a little.

[up][up] That makes sense, thanks.

And hey, you guys know how each main TV Tropes page for the Final Fantasy games has some running gag going on like "lip-smackingly popular" or "hand-rubbingly popular" or "tail-pullingly popular"?

Like, where did that come from? How did "(*insert hyperbolic verb here*)-ingly popular" become a running gag?

That's the whole point of Necron really, trying to make him less of one would be pointless

As for Fraya, definately expand her character, she's definition of a cool character with a quest

[up][up] No idea who started it, but it definitely originated in Tvtropes' primaeval days. FF had a bit of a fall from grace with the one-two punch of vanilla XIV and XV after all.

[up] More Freya! More Freya! More Lani too!

Hopefully, they can make Beatrix less unsympathetic.

I mean, at least Beatrix IS aware that she did a lot of war crimes and has that scene with Freya.

But it still rubs me the wrong way that one of the reasons why she defects is because Brahne didn't appreciate her enough and for some reason, the trope pages act like that's a sympathetic motive when it just screams self-centered ness.

At least the topic of her atoning is focused on Opera Omnia, albeit for her crimes against Garnet, not the rat people.

I mean as a trigger for a My God, What Have I Done? moment "It didn't even work out for ME" is an easy way to domino into further issues.

Been a loooong time since I played IX though.

The cartoon for IX will probably switch between Zidane growing up with the thieves and Garnet's life in the castle,as a contrast. Also Albert and beatrix as new recruits maybe.

This actually isn't completely surprising. If Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss can get fully fledged TV shows, why not Final Fantasy?

I can see them adding more to Terra in the cartoon. It's crazy how a completely new planet is squeezed at the end of the 3rd disc.

Filler episodes can be about Chocograph searching.

Actually, how are they gonna handle Quina? "They" has certainly become a more acceptable pronoun for someone who is non-binary than "S/he" for sure.
