Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

I feel like Garnet and Rydia are longshots at best to get in on their best day.
Garnet maybe, but if they ever put another IV character in the game, Rydia is probably the most likely choice
That's a big if I think.
She's one of the most popular FFIV characters, I don't think it's that farfetched, and Japan has a hardon for IV in general.
I mean at the very least shes probably behind almost two years of characters with priority before her.
Rydia would also have the advantage of likely using a whip if we use her adult form to see more unique compared to Yuna or Garnet
I think I'm driving myself to insanity trying to play XIV's free trial. I'm completely walled by this one-time password nonsense that won't actually give me a password because I need to buy a token or something for a free trial? What?
Okay so the free trial is a load of crap. I mean, buy a token for a free trial? What sense does that make?
Edit:
just skip that field entirely. It's only applicable if you actually have one on your account in the first place.

If you haven't registered a token to your account you don't have to enter a one-time password. It's worth doing though since the app version of the token is free and having it also has the ingame benefit of designating one Aetheryte that's free to warp to. Not to mention the whole security thing, since it makes your account very difficult to hack.

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.You can just skip over the field that it presents as something you have to do no matter what? Wish they could have mentioned that...literally anywhere.
Meh. No time to try it out now, I'll wait to see if I still care enough to check it out next week.
So, what do you think of how the FFVII Remake has an entirety new voice cast?
I just hope for dual audio
They’re not changing the JP V As
The only real loss is George Newbern's Sephiroth, Cloud and especially Tifa have been very iffy.
I would of liked to of heard more than one line of Liam O'Brien's Nanaki, but otherwise I agree, even if I feel bad for the actors for being replaced.
I agree that other than Newbern I wasn't overly attached to any of the voice actors. But I do think the way they were replaced was kinda shitty, especially because Square usually treats its voice actors pretty well.

They did bring back the entire JP cast.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."In Japan, lots of voice work is tied to the actor. If you get a role, barring medical problems, schedule mishaps, or production decisions, you stick with that role until you die. It's shameful they couldn't give that kind of respect to the English cast though.
On the plus side, Aerith's new VA seems like a real sweetheart from her social media and Youtube.
I think the main problem with FF 7 stuff has not been the va's themselves, when the voice direction and script is really weak (which it has been almost universally with stuff released after the original game) then there's limits to what the VA can do. There's probably no actor that can make "there's nothing i don't cherish!" anything but a garbage line.
We all know what Liam O'Brien is capable of.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.I have hated the FFVII cast since the start, they never really fit and not to mention bland. Dont miss them in the slightest. Honestly I wouldn't mind a Redub of FFVII AC Complete now.
Ditto. I was never that invested in the cast, mostly because I haven't actually heard them in anything besides Advent Children, but I'm really opposed to the idea of voice actors being tossed aside because the director just felt like it that day.
Gotta say, though, Steve Burton really earned a lot of respect with the way he handled it.
Been playing through Final Fantasy 7 and there's some cool stuff in this game.
I really liked the misdirect the game plays on you with the sequence of meeting the Sephiroth clones, then Red 13 expressing worry about becoming one because of his number, but then it pulls a reversal and reveals Cloud is the one who is a Clone.
Incidentally, I always thought Kingdom Hearts Cloud who had Sephiroth as a manifestation of his darkness was a bit hokey but it turns out it's actually way more accurate to the source material (KH-ified) than I'd thought.
The Aerith dies scene was also well done. I'd known Sephiroth stabbed her for years, but the whole fakeout where Cloud almost stabs her and is stopped only for it to happen another way was some effective stuff I never knew about. The buildup to it in general was quite good too.
Ice areas tend to work well as "late game" areas, but it really was a good choice to have Great Glacier and Gaia's Cliff emphasize how incredibly harsh nature can be right before the Planet releases the Weapons on everyone.
Can't believe Jenova is just The Thing.

It's only hokey in the sense that Kingdom Hearts never gives it any proper context. It's basically just like "You know what he's on about if you played VII", but otherwise it's just Sephiroth and Cloud yelling darkness at each other repeatedly until the word loses all meaning.
That’s why I initially wished that Yuna in Dissidia NT would be X-2 Yuna while another character like Garnet or Rydia would be based on Yuna’s Old moveset
