As we see with the Avarr, they use animals to serve as the basis for their gods and we know that doing so has a potential to backfire massively. But my point isn't necessarily that it results in a bunch of psychotic blood mages but that Solas points out it is horrific for the spirits and horribly warps them.
Its effectively torture for them.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. It isn’t common for it to backfire in the Avvar, but the intent of WHY they do so does impact things.
Like say using a Spirit to wage war on people using a dragon as its vessel. By itself the Spirit wouldn’t be up to anything major despite being a deity of war, but it’s the intent of why it was called that made it a threat.
And when they do have Abomination type situations they try to observe and see how things go before reacting with violence, as we see with the pair whose bond has lead them to not separate yet.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. When you speak with the Avvar auger, he says the mages who are unable to leave their teacher are watched by the other gods, to ensure that neither "sickens." If they do sicken, one day they don't wake up.
The difference is that both parties understand the risks and take steps to mitigate them, which is not the case for other cases of possession.
x3 Okay, but what does spirit binding actually have to do with the Avvar and Rivain? Neither culture practices spirit binding, which is nearly exclusively a Tevinter practice, since it's considered blood magic. Binding spirits is an invasive magic against the spirits, something the Rivaini and Avvar are abhorrently against. The Rivaini specifically give spirits amulets to prevent rivals from binding them in the first place. The seers from both cultures practice voluntary and, most importantly, temporary possession with a willing spirit, with no intent of binding or controlling the spirit, as that goes against their entire respective belief systems when it comes to communing and interacting with spirits.

Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets. So those astariums,do people actually complete them?I've not done one!
New theme music also a boxI just finished watching a You Tuber let's play Inquisition, and she completed a number of astriums (astreria?), as I recall!
My Games & WritingI do them. They're not usually that difficult, I like solving puzzles, and you get some decent loot.
I never bother with shards unless I'm playing a qunari.
ok boomerSee I suck at puzzles and not being able to undo something meant constant restarts was annoying
New theme music also a boxI didn't mind doing the many side quests in Inquisition, but I didn't come anywhere close to finishing the astrariums or shards.
I'm curious, if I may: why do you collect the shards specifically when playing a Qunari character?
My Games & WritingThe best vitaar in the game, bar none, is behind the last door.
ok boomerAaah, interesting! Thank you for clarifying! ^_^
(The You Tuber who I watched went through a few doors, but not all. In all fairness, she wasn't playing as a Qunari—although she did have The Iron Bull in her party at times.)
My Games & WritingEDIT: Link didn't work due to the apostrophe in the URL
It's called "Arishok's Vitaar."

ok boomerFair enough! And thank you for further clarifying!
My Games & WritingBTW I recreated the page for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf
ok boomerThe player being a literal nobody does make me think they're going to be someone who was recently cured of being tranquil
New theme music also a boxWonder if that means we'll eventually get Seeker powers as part of the plot.
#IceBearForPresidentThat would be the kind of gimmick they would go for,it's not 'magical hand' as much as inherent powers your gaining
New theme music also a boxPiecing together leaks and what promotional material there's been gives me the impression that we'll have a selection of potential player characters, though probably not with actual playable origin stories (or only a very short one, like in Cyberpunk 2077). The Lords of Fortune, the Grey Wardens, and the Tevinter Sicarii seem to be likely candidates, though they might also be companions (or both!).
I don't think you should read that much into the "nobody" thing. Most of our protagonists, aside from Cousland, Aeducan, and Trevelyan, have been "nobodies" — they just emphasized it to quash speculation that the Inquisitor would be returning as the protagonist.
