No, Oscar did not fight Valt.

[up][up]FYI, spoiler tags aren't allowed above the example section. The spoiler on Tinasha's full name needs to go.

[up] Got it. surprised

[up][up] Uh, that's a weird thing to remove. The fact that he was wounded by Oscar's sword during their skirmish was kind of important.

edit: So after watching the episode through perfectly legal© means… I didn't find it too confusing? Maybe it's because I already had the full context.

"That scene" was weird though. On one hand, it is relatively tamer than in the novels, and I won't complain, but on the other… it still makes Oscar look much worse than he had come off until now in the anime.

I'm now up to volume 5 of the novels. I like New!Oscar a lot more than Old!Oscar, although I feel so awful for Old!Tinasha.

Episode 6: The most glaring the skipped content has ever been. Tinasha is suddenly okay with kissing Oscar. Then she’s removed Oscar’s curse offscreen. Then she waltzes off with Lanak. Confusing! At least we got more backstory for Tinasha though. Blood rituals are never fun.

[up][up] Oh, I can't open that, you're now further along than I am. tongue I wonder, though, how should we deal with some of the characters' different incarnations in the altered timeline? Make a dedicated subsection?

As for the anime… I'm not surprised they skipped over the Asdora Plain battle, but it still pains me since Renart's introduction was one of my favorite scenes. sad Regarding the flashback, I don't know if the anime's rendition makes it less or more brutal… I found the idea of Lanak slowly tearing her stomach open and dragging out her guts with a cold expression more terrifying, but him stabbing her repeatedly while laughing like a madman is creepy in its own way. I like the addition of Tinasha chanting while in constant pain though, makes what she accomplished even more impressive.

Also, they really made Cecilia as unpleasant as they possibly could, didn't they. evil grin I don't know, I saw her as the cunning and seductive kind rather than a full-on Dumb Blonde.

[up] Well, to be honest the kiss also felt a bit weird and out-of-nowhere in the novel… but it was also slower and we had more insight into Tinasha's personality and thoughts to understand why she wouldn't think much of it. Still, the manga version where she just smiles and avoids it made more sense to me at that stage.

[up] Such an odd way to do the kiss, then. I was more flabbergasted than anything.

Yeah, to be honest, the anime is really rushing things. We're already two chapters into volume 2 and it's only the sixth episode.

I think we're three chapters into volume 2 actually… Even 4, since they skipped Renart's introduction and will probably skip Pamyra's too. I wouldn't even be surprised if they wrapped up the Cuscull arc next episode. evil grin

Holy crap, they really did wrap up the arc in this episode. evil grin

To be fair, it did have some nice moments. The "crowning ceremony" and the last confrontation between Oscar and Lanak in the twilight had some directional flair for once. But, err, yeah, people who've only watched the anime must have been extremely confused as to what the fuck was happening and who the fuck all those new characters were.

Going by the next episode's title, it seems like they're jumping straight to the end of volume 2… and I guess they'll have to if they want to cover volume 3 within the remaining 4 or 5 episodes after that.

As expected, they skipped everything from chapter 7 to 11 of volume 2… but I actually found the episode pretty well done? It’s condensed, but in a more natural way that previous episodes, and adaptation choices like changing the way Tinasha is woken up by Elze’s dream or having Elze herself tell the story of the time traveller make sense. Elze’s conflicted feelings toward Havi are conveyed without a word, although I pictured the latter as more of a serious and determined warrior than a smirking villain like here…

I’m a bit bummed they skipped some beautiful romantic scenes between Oscar and Tinasha, but rather glad that the forced kiss scene is gone.

Overall, it was one of my favorite episodes so far, I think.
