Maybe you share IP with a banned user and it kicks you automatically without VPN.

I've lately had an issue with the site where if I try to go to any TV Tropes page while my VPN is turned off, it continuously gives me "Error: Connection reset". Turning the VPN back on circumvents this, but VPNs cause lag.
I've tried various troubleshooting steps, such as cache cleaning, but they don't work.
Any idea why the site is rejecting my connection without a VPN?
