A question regarding Chekov's Gun

(wound up putting my question in the wrong area, but I have gotten some help from another user)

If Chekov's Gun was played as normal, but when it was time to use it, things go wrong and the user catastrophically misses or puts them in a worse off position, would that mean that the trope was subverted? Me and my friends joked about that being an example of Murphy's Gun, but I'm currently unsure if that would count as it's own trope

I think it's still Chekhov's Gun played straight. The gun still fired; the item was still used. Just not how the audience expected.

Oh, and just so you know... Chekov's Gun is a different page wink
