Do they even bring up the virgin thing?

Coz like, in the setting the Unicorn is a servant of the great mother and father

And going by those titles I assume those two fucked.

And this is a setting where Angels are just mortal with wings.

I mean it could be brought up. Thats why it’s noticeable to me they use a Unicorns which are associated with purity just based on symbols associated with the mythical beast alone. Much like the Ring we use purifies people of Galerius influence.

Who knows. Although given what Alain's mother looks like there will be a lot of "Virgin MILF!" jokes to go around if true.

I seriously doubt they would though. The Unicorn Ring even has a direct counterpart; the maiden ring, you can give to another member of your army which seems to be the game's romance system.

I mean it could be brought up.

But is it though? A lot of things could be brought up Valmore could be three squirrels stacked on top of each other inside his armor.

The archive so far don't ever mention the virgin thing.

Well yeah we don’t know how the story will go later, or how they’ll expand on what we see in the demo. Which is why I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more to the nature of the Unicorn and Maiden Rings.

I just wonder if the Ring Covenant will have romantic overtones or just be romantic.

I assume the former since you have guys like Hodrick on the possible list of recipients along with Alain's cousin but you never know with this stuff.

Played a bit of the demo last night. Starts of fairly standard; we have the prince in hiding, fallen good Kingdom and the standard classes (cleric girl, swordy bois and the works). Though having played 13 Sentinels, I expect the full game's to more complicated than that.

Gameplay wise, it is interesting. The game mechanics are rather complex due to the vast amounts of menus. But once you understand that, it is rather fun. It is an RTS where you the cursor to the enemies while defeating other enemies approaching you. It is admittedly slower paced than 13 Sentinels.

They do a good job of easing you into the complexities that when they start tutorializing some other stuff it feels jarring.

Some of those time limits on some of the later battles in the demo get quite tight. I can see this being a major grumbling point.

I adore the stamina limits and time limits.

Fire Emblem and many other games have let people get comfortable playing the waiting game.

Unicorn Overlord demands aggression. You cannot win a map by playing defense at all. Blitz or lose. That is 100% what I want from a game like this.

For sure, I believe the turn limit was X Com 2's best improvement over the original.

That said, some of the missions time limit are balls hard if you just don't have enough armies to roll out (Or don't plan to abuse Josef's level 20-ness).

They're pretty generous about retreating/losing and just trying again and a quick change in formation can make a battle go from "Everyone gets slaughtered" to "Overwhelming victory" though. I'm glad they're willing to let you trial-and-error it.

Basically, it's a strategy game that actually requires strategy is what I'm saying. Except maybe easy mode? I'm playing on tactical and watched a Vtuber suffer through expert...

I've only gotten to the point where you gain access to the world map, but the weirdest thing in this demo is that the battle forecasts say that each enemy has a 47% chance to hit Tristan, yet they missed every single time, which felt like more than a dozen attacks overall. Maybe I'm just lucky.

One thing I'm happy about is that people on Gamefaqs have determined that level ups are not random in this game.

Tristan has "Evade" so as long as he has PP left he still won't get hit even if he's hit.

Plus if he would get hit on the battle forecast you probably wouldn't send him.

Tbf the battle forecast doesn't predict lucky hits or Crits. So it is possible for him to get hit even if the forecast predicts no damage

Gah my day was ruined as I saw the Anti-Localizations people are now taking the piss on Unicorn Overlord for its translation.

About the fact that the language is more flowery ala a number of medieval fantasy translation despite it being the same meaning in the end.

I honestly wouldn’t have noticed if I didn’t notice Matsuno(FFT/Tactics Ogre/Vagrant Story/FXII) himself commenting on how much he liked the English translations of Vagrant Story and so on in Japanese to it.

Honestly the only bit that stood out to me is their dedication to spelling "Physical" wrong for no discernible reason.

I saw that twitter thread too. All I can say is I am incredibly happy those kind of people don't actually have any sway. Boring goobers at best, that lot.

I've pre-ordered the Monarch edition. I will soon own a Vanillaware artbook. Joy.

Hope it arrives right on time because I have the 8th and the 9th off but work a bunch of days in a row after that. surprised

Welp, the big twist regarding the Big Bad got leaked.

Keep your spoiler tags on people. Fear not, for only those who know the reference will understand what I’m talking about.

The Big Bad is basically an Expy of Lucius the Eternal.

And the early reviews are in!

Most of them are saying excellent strategic combat — and also really boring, trite story with a nothing of a protagonist. But hey, excellent combat!

Hopefully at least the character conversations are nice, since that is something I really like in Fire Emblem games, and I was happy to see they were in this game.

I can imagine they were focused purely on perfecting the gameplay and wanted to keep things simple with the story.

The set-up is a very basic "evil emperor guy takes over so the noble son of a deceased hero lord takes the fight to them" type story.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
