In the southernmost reaches of the world rests the Academy at the Tolarian Isles, a place for learning of magic as the Mirage Wars end.

On the world of Dominaria, there is a strong magical tradition, one that persists through the ages. And in this case, the tradition is expressed at the Tolarian Academy. Founded by "Master Malzra" and Archmage Barrin, the Academy offers classes in both the basics of spellcasting as well as more in depth specialized courses for Mages on their way out into the world.

You'll be playing as one of many students, amateur Mages, attending the school at Tolaria - starting as a mono-color student with the potential to branch out with time. Tolaria is an expansive school stretching across islands with their fair share of wilds, ruins, and shores.

You'll find plenty of locales worth investigating - and secrets kept about the Academy and its founder, which might well bring trouble right to the Academy's doorstep.

This RP is inspired by the lore and Magic System of Magic The Gathering. Basically, each color - Red, Blue, White, Black and Green - has a guiding philosophy and set of potential spells that can be used within that color identity.

This will be taking the form of an "Ultimate Universe" version of the Magic storyline. Much like the Ultimate Marvel universe, a lot of the same names and personalities turn up, but different and with its own kind of continuity. Don't take the existing canon as set in stone.

Things may well proceed from the Time Streams point in a very different way.

And no, you're not going to be playing as Planeswalkers for this one. That's a hard rule from the word go.

What else is needed?

Name: Toriz Hailstorm

Gender: Male

Personality: Toriz looks pretty grumpy, but... he is actually a little grumpy. That's the influence of his magic on his psyche, but he's pretty chill and friendly, but somewhat quick to anger. His anger and risk-taking ability heightens upon using Unity in Strength.

Appearance:

Color of Magic: White

Magic Spells and Application of Magic: Toriz uses his magic to strengthen himself and others. He has two main uses of his magic:

Unity in Strength: This increases Toriz' physical abilities by a lot, allowing him to do things such as leap over buildings or punch through several metals. Despite making him insanely strong and durable, he does get trigger-happy when using it, throwing caution to the wind.

Strength in Unity: Toriz links himself and a number of allies to each other. While a creature is linked, they gain a boost to their abilities proportional to the number of linked creatures. Any linked creature can also choose to see what other linked creatures see, and they can switch places if they wish.

Destructive Wave: Toriz' most powerful and most draining attack, he basically releases most of his energy into a deluge of power. Uncontrolled, it explodes outward like a nuke, but if he learns to control it, he can focus it and target all of it on a specific point or line.

Backstory: Toriz is considered the strongest man of his village, always helping others and defending the people. He always felt bored, however. All the same. At least until he was able to receive a mage's interest in his power and inviting him to the Academy. Finally, a new challenge!

Etc: I have no idea if I'm doing this right, feedback on matching my character to lore would be appreciated!

[up][up] Yeah that's not really what Red does. It would fit more with White's ethos of unity, along with the more destructive end of the color.

[up] Thanks! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Name: Alexander Septerin

Gender: Male

Personality: Alexander is a deeply dull and rigid individual despite his high intelligence. His aspirations and interests have little to do with his own desires, and more with what he deems to be the "proper" thing for a man of his age and background to be doing, and he finds more self centered or nonconformist desires hard to comprehend. While not nessecarily antisocial, his relationships often lack sentimentality, at most resting upon a detached respect.

Appearance: Alexander is an extremely tall man with dull blond hair. He wearsspectacles over his green eyes . In terms of clothing he dresses in simple wizards robes.

Color of Magic and Application: Alexander uses White magic, specifically its aspect of banishment.

  • Partial Exile: Alexander can launch beams of white mana that partially shunt their targets into a confined portion of the extraplanar void, manifesting as their forms losing consistency. Anybody completely vaporized will be imprisoned in this void.
  • Warding: Alexander can conjure stationary wards that interfere with any summoning magic, it's not an infallible technique, and many entities can still get through, but it does at the very least allow for a reduction in the forces conjured.

Backstory: Alexander was born to a minor aristocratic family in a small island nation. He was was only about ten years of age when it came under foreign rule. The conquerers removed the upper reaches of the old nobility from power, raising the lower ranks into power as a puppet government. Alexander's father gleefully took advantage of the shift in power, and thus he saw his family's status grow exponentially. Most of his relatives were more than happy to accept this change, but Alexander even at such a young age had been instilled with a deep sense of duty towards his country and deeply resented this new state of affairs. Naturally this alienated him from his relatives, and he soon became the black sheep of the family. He spent the remaining years of his childhood and adolescence in the shadow of this conquest suffering quietly under the perceived indignity of it all. His only solace from this was his study of magic and the extraplanar void, a topic he became increasingly engrossed in as he grew older. Though he was the eldest son of his family, his political views precluded the responsibilities that would normally have been bestowed upon him when he came of age. The only path left to him was that of a scholar, and so he was sent off to Tolaria, knowing full well that his relatives hoped never to see his face again.
