Zeerust Bucket - A Kitchen Zync Sci-Fi Fantasy - Interest check

Do you like 'Retro Sci-Fi' like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Cowboy Bebop, Space Dandy, Trigun, Red Dwarf, Outlaw Star, Firefly, etc?

I want to try running a game that draws inspiration (or alternatively outright steals) from those source.

Story: The galaxy is roughly split between the Confederation Of Regulated Entities (CORE / Core worlds) and the Unaligned Governed Habitats (UGH). On the border of CORE space you can find the fringe, a band of planets that include a mix of planets claimed by CORE and UGH. The newest (well, under new ownership, at least) ship to try to thread the gray line between commercial cargo ship and smuggler is the Zeerust Bucket, owned and captained by Nathan Esquire Buddy, or N.E.Buddy for short.

You are a new crew or passengers to the Zeerust Bucket, coming onboard shortly after the Zeerust Bucket was loaded with a mysterious cargo. N. E. Buddy has a shadowy past and a bad ticker, that unfortunately stops ticking just after the ship enters deep space.

With the captain dead it'll be up to the crew to figure out what's with the mysterious crates that were loaded onboard before the ship left and what to do with them. While there can be serious moments, I also like every character to include a 'Comedic Angle'. Maybe your character just tries to take everything seriously, but there should be SOMETHING that other people find occasionally funny about your character.

As well as 'Comedic Angle', include one or more special abilities (what your character would use to get out of trouble and help her or his crewmates) and at least one special detriment (that gets your character and crew mates into trouble).

Character Name: Nathan Esquire Buddy, aka N.E.Buddy

Player Name: Nodrog

Character Concept: Owner/Captain of the Zeerust Bucket with a mysterious past and a complete lack of future.

Species: Human, deceased.

Role on ship: Former Captain, now Ballast

Special Ability: Legal Ownership of the Zeerust Bucket, Identification for being a CORE Government Agent in the Bureau (see below).

Special Detriment: Um, I mentioned he was dead, right?

Comedic Angle: He's dead. You might need to pull some Weekend at Bernie's shenanigans, or give him an improvised funeral in deep space. N. E. Buddy has no offspring and any widows he left behind weren't actually legally married to him.

Appearance: Looks like Captain B. McCrea from Wall-E except he's dead. I can't overstate this. He is dead. Not mostly dead, not in a coma, not merely dormant while his body repaired itself. Dee, Eeh, Dee, dead.

History: Examining of N.E.Buddy's cabin will eventually reveal that N.E.Buddy spent most of his adult life as an analyst for the 'Bureau of Fringe Management', IE 'The Bureau', a quasi-secret government agency of the CORE devoted to monitoring the fringe worlds to prevent them doing anything to upset the 'important' CORE worlds. There is not enough evidence to show if N.E.Buddy decided to retire and used a mixture of savings and illegally procured money to buy the Zeerust Bucket OR if he is now some sort of secret agent on a mission. Given CORE bureaucracy, it's possible that no one in CORE knows either. Evidence also shows a large loan taken from the Galactic Bank, possibly to pay for the mysterious cargo, although this could be part of a cover scheme.

Alliance(s): Either a former employee or active/secret agent for the Bureau. No records in the fringe show if N.E.Buddy has officially retired yet, and news of his death has not yet reached anyone outside of the Zeerust Bucket.
