• Name: Klarysa Wojnicz^note Pronounced, as she'll quickly remind any "głupi obcokrajowcy" who butcher it, "Clarissa Voynich"

• Age: 18

• Appearance: Pale-skinned, slightly taller than average with a spiky, wiry frame. Her face is similarly pointed and bony, framed by a wild, jagged mass of red hair. Her eyes are a deep purple, and seem to be perpetually glowering no matter her actual mood. Partly because of these eyes, partly because of her tendency to smile too wide and too toothy even if she's genuinely happy, a lot of people would describe her expressions as unsettling. Her clothing is a ragged mish-mash that reflects an inability to be too picky with what she wears, but she prefers dark clothing, artfully damaged materials and a general aggressive, punk rock vibe.

• Personality: Brash, bad-tempered and frequently aggressive, Klarysa isn't someone who excels at first impressions. Indeed, people's initial idea of her is generally that she's nothing but a violent asshole, and she's happy to let them keep believing that. Were you to get to know her better, however - say, if she were your travelling companion on a region-long Pokemon journey, perhaps beyond that - a Hidden Heart of Gold would start to emerge. There's a surprising capacity for compassion once she's come to consider you part of her life, and a tendency along with that for her temper to stop being directed your way and instead focused on anyone who would bring harm to you. Speaking of her rage and aggression, all signs point to it being a defense mechanism developed over time to ward off... something. She's loath to be emotionally open even to those who earn her friendship, though, so Arceus only knows what made her this way...

• Items: Like her outfits, the contents of Klarysa's ragged satchel - which the eagle-eyed will notice has a faded Team Skull logo sticker plastered onto the back pocket - are ever-shifting and frequently of dubious origin. She consistently keeps a tent on her person for travelling purposes, but it's no fancy home away from home - this tent is a dirty, sodden rag that provides just enough protection to prevent death from exposure. She has no sleeping bags or flasks or other conveniences, and judging by her ability to sleep on any surface and her surprising knowledge of wilderness survival skills, she never has.

• History: Klarysa is a foreigner, from [Pokemon!Poland], who travelled all the way to Tuloh with nothing but the clothes on her back and her shitty excuse for a tent. Asking her why she made such an arduous journey is the point at which she'll stop answering your questions. As such, nobody knows much about her, and her abrasive personality means nobody's gotten close enough to inquire yet anyway.

• Starter Pokemon:
  • Species: Espurr

  • Gender: Male

  • Nickname: Janek

  • Moves:
    • Scratch (Lv. 1)

    • Leer (Lv. 1)

    • Confusion (Lv. 9)

  • Personality: Espurr have a reputation for being tough to read, and Janek has no intention of challenging that perception. Most of the time, he just stares blankly at whatever last got his attention and mrows. Assuming he's oblivious to his surroundings is a mistake, however - when Janek does get active, he exhibits a real crafty and mischievous streak, and his trainer's all too happy to encourage these tendencies further...

• Other:
  • Klarysa has inborn psychic abilities, with the affinity for Psychic-type Pokemon to match. She's not especially skilled at using them yet, though, and most of what she can reliably do is basic offensive abilities. If expected to use anything such as telekinesis or telepathy, she'll quickly prove amateurish at most.

  • Klarysa suffers frequent migraines, which don't do much good for her already bad temper. More rarely, she'll start hallucinating... something. She refuses to admit what, and tends to outright deny her delusional episodes happened once they clear up.

Let's have an adventure!

• Name: Nicklas "Nick" Bardak.

• Age: 16, almost 17.

• Appearance: 5'6" and still growing, Caucasian, light brown hair with some white highlights kept a bit short that has that quality of always looking okay despite him clearly never taking care of it, blue eyes, typically dressed in simple jeans and a shirt under a plaid flannel jacket.

• Personality: Friendly, and eager to see new sights and try new things. Whenever he sees something new to him, he will almost certainly take a photo of it. Unlike his peers, he has no interest in becoming a great trainer for battling, nor does he care much about gym badges, and only chooses to engage with those in so far as they lead him along the path he is interested in. Instead, his interest is in Pokemon photography; not that he'll turn down all fights, but it's not what he's there for.

• Items: A trusty camera that is nearly always hanging from his neck, and a reliable backpack with his other photography gear, (small tripod, spare batteries, memory cards, whatnot) some camping gear in it, namely a small tent, a bedroll, a simple stove, some reusable camping dishware, and a large water bottle. He also has a pittance of spare cash, and whatever items Professor Hawthorn would give him before sending him off.

• History: Hailing from Kanto, Nicklas isn't very familiar with a lot of Pokemon from other regions, and decided to come to Tuloh for his Pokemon adventure after hearing about its impressive Pokemon diversity. Having always been interested in Pokemon photography, he's not all that knowledgeable about battling either.

• Starter Pokemon:
  • Species: Rockruff.
  • Gender: Male.
  • Nickname: Torsten/Torry.
  • Ability: Keen Eye. In practical combat terms, Torsten cannot have his accuracy reduced, and ignores buffs to enemies' evasion. Of greater appeal to Nicklas however, is that it lets Torsten much more easily spot things of interest and alert Nicklas of them so he can photograph them.
  • Moves:
    • Leer: (Level 1, Normal Status) Torsten glares menacingly at his target, potentially frightening them and other Pokemon who see it, with the intent of getting them to lower their guard.
    • Sand Attack: (Level 4, Ground Status) Torsten kicks sand towards his opponent with his hind legs, trying to get it into their eyes and make it harder for them to see.
    • Bite: (Level 7, Dark Physical) Torsten bites his target, possibly causing them to flinch in addition to the direct physical harm.
    • Snore: (Tutored, Normal Special) Torsten can somehow, while asleep, loudly and abruptly snore on command, startling opponents who would otherwise expect him to be entirely passive on account of being, y'know, alseep, and possibly causing them to flinch. However, he must actually be asleep to do this, and cannot consciously do it while awake.
  • Personality: Quirky nature. Torsten is a playful goof of a Pokemon, who gets fascinated by his own reflection and seems to like reflective surfaces in general. (Which, thanks to his Keen Eye, he can easily pick out and is thus easily distracted by them.) He's happy to sit by Nicklas and watch the landscape and other Pokemon as Nicklas takes photographs. Torsten does not dislike any food, and will eat anything given to him that is edible, and may try to eat some things that are not edible anyway. Nicklas gave him a plaid neckerchief that matches Nicklas' jacket.

• Other: Professor Hawthorn intended to give Nicklas a Female Galarian Zigzagoon, but the Zigzagoon mistook Nicklas for someone that she had evidently encountered before and disliked, thus turning aggressive towards Nicklas. So he opted for the much more friendly Rockruff instead.

-Dubh Kafkaesque : How interesting that your character is from the Pokemon equivalent of Poland. I had based Tuloh off of parts of northern Germany and southern Scandinavia, culture-wise. So assuming the places in the Pokeworld are in roughly equivalent places to their real-world counterparts, a trip from not!Poland to not!Germany wouldn't take too long and be fairly simple to make.

As for your character, a Psychic sounds very intriguing. There are indeed trainers in the world who are capable of psychic powers. I would like to know what exactly you mean by "basic offensive abilities." I interpreted this as the equivalent of a weak Confusion attack, but the idea of a human using Pokemon moves is odd to me, heh. Please elaborate on that front.

Janek the Espurr seems to be in order. I rolled Janek's ability and got Infiltrator, which makes Janek adept at penetrating and passing through the opponent's own barriers, like Reflect, Light Screen, Safeguard, Mist, and Substitute.

-Firock Finion : Well, I got ninja'd here! A few things to note.

I like the idea of your character being primarily a photographer. Torry the Rockruff seems to be mostly in order, though you have the option of giving Rockruff an Egg move of your choice from Generation 7 or 8.

As for Rockruff's ability, I rolled the Keen Eye ability, which gives Rockruff excellent vision that can't be compromised by outside forces. In game terms, this means Rockruff can't have its Accuracy dropped, and it ignores changes to the target's Evasion stat.

Also, to nitpick slightly, Hawthorn wouldn't have given him a Linoone because it's an evolved Pokemon. He would have attempted to give your character a Zigzagoon instead.

• Name: Kaden Rains

• Age: 15

• Appearance: Not much of a morning person.◊

• Personality: Kaden is a pretty laid-back, chill person, though when he's interacting with Pokemon, there's an undeniable warmth of someone who deeply loves the creatures in his mannerisms, whether it's the soft-spoken voice or deliberate, gentle body language. He doesn't deal with stress and hectic situations when they do get to him, having an otherwise "go with the flow" attitude. With people, he's generally friendly and casual, very low-intensity.

• Items: The standard fare for Trainers. 6 Pokeballs (although he and Vinca prefer that she not stay in one unless necessary), a couple of potions, Pokegear for contacting people and camping gear. He also has a few books about Pokemon and nature with him for reading and consulting, along with a Pokedex. Also, some pocket money.

• History: Originally from Castelia City in the Unova region, Kaden was never really a good fit for the hustle and bustle of the city, and would often wander out to Pinwheel Forest nearby to go wander in nature, watching the Pokemon (from a safe distance most of the time) and their lives. While he's been of age to go on a Trainer journey for a while now, he held off as he decided on what he wanted out of life. When the opportunity to get away from Castelia and see a bunch of Pokemon he could never even dream of seeing in the Unova region came up though, he took the chance to finally reach his decision. And so, off to Tuloh he went, to meet with the resident Pokemon professor.

Starter Pokemon:

• Species: Zorua

• Gender: Female

• Nickname: Vinca

• Ability: Illusion (It's the only ability Zorua and Zoroark can have, which lets them disguise themselves as people and other Pokemon with illusions)

• Moves:
  • Scratch (Level 1): Vinca scratches the target with her claws, dealing Normal-type damage.

  • Leer (Level 1): Vinca intimidates the target(s) with a menacing glare, unnerving them and making them lower their guard

  • Fake Tears(Level 9): Vinca fake-cries to fluster the target, making them much more susceptible to special attacks.

  • Dark Pulse (Egg Move): Vinca releases a powerful aura filled with malice, dealing special Dark-type damage to the target without a chance of missing, and potentially making the target flinch.

• Personality: Like most Zoruas, Vinca is something of a trickster. Yet she's also incredibly rash and headstrong, one might even say aggressive. She's high energy, independent and even cocky, and loves to cause mischief. Despite her independent nature, however, she does have a protective streak for those that are important to her, though she'll often do what she thinks is best for them rather than what they might want her to do.

• Other: N/A

There are indeed, and that's exactly what I was drawing from when I decided to make Klarysa a psychic! I headcanon based on what the franchise has shown us that humans with access to the powers of all 18 types exist, and psychics are just the most common, but that's a worldbuilding question for another day.

By "basic offensive abilities" I was referring to the simplest damage-dealing attacks in a Psychic-type Pokemon's roster - things like Psychic and Psyshock. In terms divorced from the Pokemon move terminology, she knows how to break things with her mental powers pretty effectively, but anything that requires finer control is a bit beyond her at present.

Also keep in mind, that in official League-sanctioned Pokemon Battles, like those against run of the mill trainers, Gym Leaders and their entourage, and the League, trainers are forbidden from attacking each other or attacking Pokemon; so, Klarysa would not be allowed to use her psychic powers against the enemy trainer or their Pokemon.

Of course, against those who are already breaking the rules, like certain evil teams, anything really goes...

• Appearance:A young man of average build, with short, strawberry blonde hair that fades to a more solid red at the tips, and bright, inquisitive green eyes. His normal attire consists of a striped shirt, overalls, well worn sneakers and…a lab coat? Yes, that is for sure a lab coat.

• Personality: Adrian looks at the world through a lens of inquiry. He tends to carry himself professionally and tries to make good first impressions. Given where he grew up, he treats Pokémon with respect and is prone to the occasional Squee when he finds a particularly cute one, much to his chagrin.

• Items:
  • A X-Transceiver used to contact his parents and big sister.
  • A notebook used to jot down notes, usually filled with historical trivia he’s found.
  • A Camping Set for when he can’t find a hotel to sleep at.
  • A copy of the book Hisui and Sinnoh:A History

• History:The second and youngest child of Hoenn’s Thorne Daycare couple, Adrian grew up around Pokémon all his life, where he was taught by his parents to respect them in all aspects. However, due to stories of his paternal Auntie of her delving into ancient ruins, and stories of his honorary uncle’s own league journey, Adrian got bit by the adventure bug, so to speak. Since then, he’d taken to studying ancient history and ancient Pokémon in particular. It took some begging on his part, but he eventually gained permission to adventure on his own in the distant Tuloh region.

@All Hail Thrall: Hah, a photographer's starter having Keen Eye just seems too perfectly fitting, I love it.

As for the egg move, from what I could figure out myself on Bulbapedia, egg move is primarily dependent on what Pokemon Torry's dad would be, (since his mom has to be a Lycanroc) and I was thinking I wanted both of his parents to be Lycanroc. (Though different Lycanroc forms.) From what I could find on the egg move info for Rockruff though, if both their parents are a Lycanroc, then they can't have an egg move? That or at least they can only have an egg move that would be a move they normally get anyway, so no special 'normally unobtainable for this Pokemon line' gimmick to be done there, based on what I could find.

Besides, I'm going for a character not oriented for combat, like a support side character kind of deal; I'm not going to be all that fussed about his starter not being as strong as it could be.

And sorry about the Linoone mixup; I was making a reference and I forgot to check if Linoone was actually the first evolution of that line. (I knew it wasn't the last, because I remembered Obstagoon exists, but I forgot that Zizagoon exists.)

• Appearance: Joachim has dark hair and deep purple eyes, both of which were inherited from his mom. He tends to wear clothing he can move comfortably in, as he likes to be able to be mobile and active.

• Personality: Joachim is a quiet sort, one who prefers more low-key activities with a few close friends at his side rather than being a part of something big with many people. Even if social interaction isn't his strong suit, his moral compass is solid, and if someone needs help, Joachim will be likely to be a first responder to such and attempt to do what is needed.

• Items:
  • Backpack: This is pretty much exactly what it sounds like, though it's high quality and made to be durable.
  • Ice Box: A cold box that he can put his Pokemon into as the need arises, in case it becomes too warm for them.
  • Journal: A research and personal journal for Joachim to record his thoughts and discoveries in. Even if he doesn't discover anything groundbreaking, it's still important to have written record of what you've seen and done, according to his mother.

• History: Joachim hails from the Hoenn region, specifically from Mauville City, as he was born and raised there by his mother Joanna. As Joanna is a Hex Maniac, specifically one who studies Ghost Pokemon and their interactions with other types of Pokemon, Joachim went from merely watching her research to being allowed to assist her in such, with the two of them bonding over their discoveries and with Joachim learning various life skills at her side. Now that he's of age to go on a quest to find himself, he sets out into the world with Joanna's blessing, after having made a promise to keep in touch and to keep himself safe.

• Species: Snorunt
• Gender: Female
• Nickname: Gliss

• Moves:
  • Powder Snow (Level 1): The user attacks with a chilling gust of powdery snow. This may also freeze the opposing Pokemon.
  • Double Team (Level 5): By moving rapidly, the user makes illusory copies of itself to raise its evasiveness.
  • Ice Shard (Level 10): The user flash-freezes chunks of ice and hurls them at the target. This move always goes first.
  • Icy Wind (Level 14): The user utilizes a frigid gale to attack the target and slow it down.
  • Hex (Egg Move): This relentless attack does massive damage to a target affected by status conditions.

• Ability: Ice Body (The user gradually recovers health in snowy weather)

Personality: Gliss is more than a little bit of a drama queen, and isn't afraid to make her voice heard when she wants something. Even despite this, it's evident that the Pokemon cares about its Trainer, as she can get protective and territorial if she thinks someone is bothering Joachim.

• Nickname: Fleetfoot

• Moves:
  • Tackle (Level 1): As the name suggests, the user charges towards and tackles the opposing Pokemon with the weight of its body.
  • Camouflage (Level 1): The user's type changes depending on the environment it's currently in when the move is used.
  • Growl (Level 4): The user growls in an endearing sort of manner to try and get the opponent to let down its guard.
  • Sand Attack (Level 7): The user kicks up sand and hurls it in the target's face.
  • Double Kick (Level 10): The user uses two feet to deliver one kick and then another in rapid succession.

• Ability: Chlorophyll (The user becomes faster and more nimble when the sun is shining bright)

  • Hone Claws (Level 8): The user sharpens its claws in anticipation to boost the effectiveness of its next strike.

Luna the Shinx's ability is Rivalry. This makes it so she fights more fiercely against female opponents, and less fiercely against males. In game terms, her Attack raises when fighting opponents of the same gender as her, and lowers when she fights those of the opposite gender.

Gliss the Snorunt's ability is Ice Body, which lets it gradually heal while in snow or hail.

Since I imagine people are having fun with Scarlet and Violet right about now, I thought I would take this little lull in activity by posting some information about the Tuloh region! I am opening the Discussion thread for this game here, for any who want to talk about the game, as well as for me to post information about the setting.

Alright, let's take a crack at this.

• Name: Kara Niles
• Age: 15
• Appearance: Currently looking for climbable surfaces.◊
• Personality: Bold, adventurous and daring to a borderline reckless degree, Kara enjoys nothing more than to spend her time exploring all sorts of locales. Caves, lakes, forests, jungles, you name it, she wants to go there. She is easy going and friendly towards both people and Pokemon alike, but she does struggle when dealing with interpersonal conflict. Her boldness often gets her into trouble, but she tends to be quite creative when it comes to getting out of it... assuming she does take the time to pause and think about her course of action, which unfortunately is never truly a guarantee.
• Items: Kara carries primarily gear meant for outdoor exploration and survival. A hiking backpack holding a tent, a sleeping bag, a canteen filled with water, a first aid kit, hiking boots, a knife, some rope, winter clothes, a compass, a couple books with survival tips, and of course her Pokegear. Her starting trainer equipment is far more limited, consisting of three pokeballs and a single potion.
• History: Kara, an only child born and raised in Pewter City in Kanto, was always adventurous. Even as a child she would climb trees and big rocks for fun, and briefly venture outside the confines of the city into the world beyond. With time she became more daring, and she was eventually able to traverse a good portion of Kanto with the help of a few like-minded friends... and an experienced trainer acting as a supervisor. Having heard of the Tuloh region by chance, she decided that this would be the ideal locale for a new journey, this time as a proper Pokemon trainer.

• Species: Spheal
• Gender: Female
• Nickname: Levia
• Moves:
  • Powder Snow (Level 1)
  • Water Gun (Level 1)

• Ability: Thick Fat
• Personality: Levia is a sociable, but otherwise very calm Spheal, who tends to grow attached to others quickly. It takes both an active and a passive role in looking after Kara, by means of both fighting to keep her safe, and discouraging particularly dangerous ideas or actions by spewing a bit of water directly to the back of Kara's head. That aside, she does enjoy her fair bit of playing around when the chance arises... including by spewing snow to the back of Kara's head when she's distracted.
• Other: Kara refuses to touch Poison-type Pokemon out of fear she might end up getting sick or worse as a result, and be forced to head to a town to rest.

Name: Robert "Rab" Delisle

Age: 15

Appearance: Olive-skinned, short and broad-shouldered for his age. He has mild green eyes behind glasses and blonde hair. Walks with a slight limp. He can usually be recognized by his jacket, orange baseball cap and thick pants. Usually wears heavy boots out of an (irrational) fear of injuring his ankles (and so becoming even more dependent on his cane) along with his backpack (he does have a pair of sneakers inside, just in case).

Personality: He’s soft-spoken, tries to plan, and is seemingly unflappable. That’s not to say that something exciting or frightening won’t elicit a response, but more that he tries to disarm any stress with a joke or observation, and he can be silly if the situation calls for it. Rab is fascinated by the way Pokemon adapt to the world-particularly their different regional forms. He’d like nothing better than to discover some new variation in order to become famous. Battling is also interesting since it helps him learn more about their behavior, and if he can find some kind of "secret weapon" that would assist his win that would be perfect. He’s also a competitive person inside and would happily (if carefully) bend the rules to win a fight-though he’d usually admit to it if caught. It’s when watching a good match that his passion comes out. Becoming a Champion is just as intriguing to Rab as scientific fame.

Items: Rab’s prize possession is a walking stick tipped with what he’s been told is a piece of a prehistoric Pokemon. Though he has doubts about the story, he has decided to accept it since the object was a gift. Rab’s also bought a tan leather jacket to keep off the rain and a pair of fluorescent lights for night walking (he’s a night person anyway). A small tent, thermos, and a bag of apples and nuts are all he’s packed (along with a good amount of trip money he’s been saving).

History: He was raised on Alola and found out as a youth that he was distantly related to the famous Samson Oak. Rab was likewise intrigued by the different types and appearances of the same Pokemon in different areas. However, he also found he enjoyed watching Pokebattles on TV, which made him wonder if he could both follow science and be a Trainer. His issues with walking likewise dented his confidence about becoming a trainer and partner to a Pokemon.

However, his parents encouraged him to exercise and explore, even getting him a walking stick and binoculars to help him look for rare Pokemon. There were a few false alarms, but no luck. Then he saw Professor Hawthorn's announcement on the TV! This could be his chance to be famous! And maybe learn how to be a Trainer?

Nickname: Bubo

Moves: Constrict (lvl 1), Sleep Powder (Lvl 4) Vine Whip (lvl 7). Egg Move: Knock Off.

Ability:Leaf Guard

Personality: Bubo is a somewhat independent-minded Pokemon, often darting away to look at things or just check on something interesting, usually coming back waving a neat rock or leaf in his vines. At night he’ll snooze on Rab's shoulder. Rab likes to talk to him as they walk, but he hasn’t quite gotten the hang of understanding his little friend. Bubo seems to understand him just fine, and will usually nod along or shake his head. If having a little weird plant-like animal staring at you from a variable distance (maybe even with Rab's binoculars) is unsettling, you won’t like Bubo. However, Bubo is a much more aggressive battler than his partner.

Other: Rab’s leg issue is from a birth defect, not an injury, but he doesn’t like it mentioned anyway. He can walk fine without the walking stick, but it will be more tiring and he will have some trouble on tricky surfaces.

• Appearance:
  • Short, lightly spiked black hair, mismatched grey and blue eyes, Flint typically wears black slacks and black waistcoat over a white collared shirt with the sleeves rolled up past his elbows. A silver pocketwatch on a chain is stored in a vest pocket.
  • Not exactly practical clothes for adventuring, but excellent for making a good first impression.
• Personality:
  • Laid back but friendly, Flint tends to watch and listen before he speaks and doesn't like to insert himself or his opinions into situations unnecessarily, which can make him seem quiet or introverted compared to some.
  • Thanks to his observation skills (and perhaps some food bribes) he tends to make friends with pokemon easily and finds them more relaxing to be around than people who can get wrapped up in their own agendas.

  • Camping gear: Tent, sleeping bag, lanterns, that sort of thing. Nothing fancy but it's all quite functional.
  • Med kit: A simple bag of medical supplies, bandages and restoratives for people and pokemon.

  • The Kajiya family moved from Johto to the Tuloh region not long before Flint was born, settling on Etta Island where his father became a bartender for the local workers. As a kid Flint spent much of his time swimming and exploring around Etta Island and watching his grandfather practice his trade as a craftsman, when Epsilon began attracting tourism to the area Flint's father began working at their game center, introducing Flint to the entertainment trade and getting him part a part time job as he became an older teen.
  • Now as Flint is considering his own path in life he has set off for Professor Hawthorne's lab to explore the world of pokemon for himself.

She is however unflinchingly loyal to friends and once a bond has been established she will gladly stand as a bulwark against potential dangers.

My apologies for not getting to these sooner. I had a lot of stuff going on today. Let me take a look:

• Katarsus: This character looks to be in order. Kara Niles and Levia the Spheal are Accepted!

Levia's ability is Thick Fat, which protects Levia from Fire-type and Ice-type attacks, making her take less damage from such moves.

• Booky: This is mostly in order, though the only thing is that your Pokemon should have four starting moves. Three levelup moves, and an Egg Move. Please edit Bubo's movelist to remove one of the level-up moves.

Bubo's ability is Leaf Guard, which protects Bubo from status effects such as poison, paralysis and sleep while the sun is shining brightly.

• Blitz Train: This seems to be in order. Flint Kajiya and Nabe the Aron are Accepted!

Nabe's ability is Rock Head, which means Nabe's body is protected from the recoil damage of dangerous moves like Take Down, Double-Edge, and Head Smash. Nabe takes no damage from such moves that she uses.
