Hello! Since Luminous Witches premiered a few months ago, I figured we might need a thread to discuss the World Witches franchise.

That said, what are your overall thoughts on the franchise in general?

[up] Wasted potential is all I could say. And I say this as a long-time World Witches fan.

I got into the franchise for the "mankind banding together to drive back an alien race in the 1940s" premise alone. The fanservice is what, from what I've observed when talking to other World Witches fans, murdered chances of it making more moves for non-Japanese fans to like this franchise.

Why did I mention fanservice? Because part of the premise is that girls with magic powers called Witches need to use devices called Striker Units but that requires that they avoid pants. Hence the fanservice. And it's what Funimation went with for their "War Against Pants" whewn bringing Strike Witches over to the English-speaking world.

Hasn't the fanservice been toned down somewhat recently (in the anime at least). Mio was wearing trousers in Road to Berlin and Luminous Witches has barely any fanservice outside of last week's Beach Scene.

[up] And I for one am glad the fanservice was toned down.

I''m very concerned about this week's Luminous Witches episode as it will be set in Liberion, the stand in for the United States of America for this franchise. Normally, a franchise like this avoided the worst of the 1940s but considering how Liberion still had a civil war according to this timeline, will Liberion have Jim Crow like 1940s USA did or not?

[up] We'll find out when the ninth episode premieres in two days.

Not wasted potential, and nothing of the sort in the latest episode. Hold on...wasn't the Strike Witches thread axed earlier for violating content guidelines?

[up] Did we even have a Strike Witches thread in the past?

Having seen this week's Luminous Witches episode, Jim Crow might still be a thing in this franchise because there weren't any blacks in the concert.

Did we even have a Strike Witches thread in the past?

I don't think we've had one.

So, since we've got three more episodes of Luminous Witches to go (with the next one premiering this Sunday), do you think the series will include any more easter eggs besides the Strike Witches?

[up] To me, the only plot point of interest is resolving what bird Moffy is and reuniting him with his friends.

Sorry for the double post but it seems this week's episode of Luminous Witches resolved everything about Moffy: he's a waterfowl and meeting another waterfowl familiar made him grow yet it deprived Ginny of her magic, as symbolized by her not longer seeing him. And Elly is responsible because the feather her cat familiar took from Moffy earlier brought it to the waterfowl familiars Elly and Grace encountered.

Cool so Moffy was The Ugly Duckling. I did have a feeling that Ginny would loose her magic as soon as Moffy left so that is going about as I expected.

I did like Elly's backstory here.

A quick reminder that we've begun the final stretch for Luminous Witches earlier today.

Luminous Witches Finale: Good end to a good series. [[spoilerLoved Grace's solo. Moffy coming back was predictable but was done well]].

I hope they do some more World Witches anime soon. What I would like to see is a remake of Strike and Brave, only with familiars this time.

Indeed, having just watched it on HIDIVE, I can say it was a very good series finale. I wonder if the Luminous Witches will become recurring characters in a future World Witches installment.
