In Japan, the corrupt portion of the Galactic Police that did all that shit in Other M were actually caught and shut down, so they're no longer a factor.

I don't know what's stupider, this plot detail despite already knowing what happens in Fusion, or the fact that it got dropped in the translation despite Sakomoto personally directing both versions and thus personally knowing what information is missing from one version or another.

In the words of HYDRA, "Cut off one head, two more shall takes its place."

My impression is that while the ringleaders were stopped and many were arrested, others escaped prosecution and reorganized the faction into that of what we see in Fusion. It is possible that they're lying low for the time being to recover from the loss of the BSL station, much like how the Space Pirates lay low in the original Metroid II.

I do think it's possible that the evil Federation faction was initially considered to be a major antagonistic force in the original draft, but Sakamoto decided to simplify the conflict by just having it be solely focused on the Chozo and Raven Beak after reading feedback from Other M.

[up][up]I want Prime 4 to take place after Dread, even if it's not terribly likely.

Even if it probably means abandoning a cliffhanger.

Metroid killed off its titular species in its second outing, and the rest of the major antagonists and setting in its third.

Pre Metroid II is neat for gaiden games.

And think it would be quite exciting to explore a new myth arc in a 3d setting post that.

I know there's a way to get bombs early in order to easily kill Kraid, but what other sequence breaks have been found? Not expecting Super levels of openness, but a few good breaks would at least be interesting.

There's actually quite a few. Early Grapple Beam (Which is part of the Early Bombs events). Early Gravity Suit, Early Phase Shift, Early Cross Bombs, Early Pulse Radar, and the ability to access the Green Teleporter before you return to the water sector a second time.

EDIT: Oh also you can use the Speed Booster to kill the Experiment boss fight in one hit on it's second phase.

Heh. Should I take the fact that Samus only speaks once in the game (and in Chozo) and Adam being completely out of contact with her (due to Raven Beak impersonating him for the majority of the game) as take thats at Other M, or am I reading too much into it?

Like, it's pretty clear the game wants to avoid the mistakes that it's predecessor made, but still.

If we do ever get a 3D Metroid in another part of the timeline, I hope they don't use the "Prime" branding. We already have one Nintendo series with a confusing timeline, and that's quite enough.

[up][up] Okay, I need to try all these quick kills on my next go around.

[up] It's probably not a take-that, per se. Moreso Sakamoto retreating back into his comfort zone after the reception Other M got. Whatever the case, I like that Samus just had those three sentences, and everything else was emoted through her eyes and body movements (oh, and screams. Angry, angry screams.) Super effective.

I don't know, I do feel like the final speech ending with you must obey me and Samus shooting the interface at that point certainly seems like a Take That! towards Other M.

[up] It should be noted that Fusion shows Samus being disobedient towards the authorities and even Other M shows Samus self-authorizing her Screw Attack, even snidely saying "Any objections, Adam?" It's part of her character and more proof that Other M is meant to look at Samus at her lowest point before she builds herself back up again (which is why I never had problems writing trope examples on the character pages related to Other M).

I managed to grab a Power Bomb expansion immediately after getting the Grapple Beam and the game said that the suit doesn't recognize it yet. Looks like you need the Main Power Bombs before the expansions start working.

It was never clear if this game retcons Gray Voice being the DNA donor.

I don’t think it does.

So geez Samus why do you get to have FOUR dads?

[up][up] Gray Voice is the Thoha DNA donor, Raven Beak the Mawkin DNA donor. Problem solved.

How many planets have been destroyed in relation to Samus now?

Dark Aether, Phaaze, Zebes, SR 388, and ZDR now?

And all of those except for Zebes was planets Samus deliberately destroyed (and for good reason, phazon and X-parasites are nasty).

I do writing, feel free to check out my stories here! https://numbugwritingblog.tumblr.com/post/686233243868102656/numbugs-shared-heroic-uni

I do love we have context for Mother Brain and why she did what she did. After all, bringing order to the Galaxy and power is absolute is a very Mawkin ideal. Even Mawkin are sacrificed to impose “Order” upon the galaxy.

[up][up] Let's be fair now. That's how the Chozo solve their problems when all else fails.

Metroids becoming too dangerous? Seal them away and then blow up the planet to be sure.

Space Pirates invading Zebes? Let's put our finger on the self-destruct button in case they succeed (unless our Chozo computer stabs us in the back).

Gray Voice: Samus, sometimes a problem becomes severe enough that you have to blow up a planet to stop it.

Little Samus: Okay!

Old Bird: Do you think that maybe it wasn't a good idea to teach a child that blowing up a planet is a viable solution to dealing with a bad situation?

Gray Voice: Says the Chozo who rigged the planet we are standing on with a self-destruct button.

Nah chozo are still around, just rare.

Did they ever actually stated Gray Voice donated his DNA in-game in any of the games though?

No, but the manga is generally assumed as canon-except-where-it's-directly-contradicted-by-canon.

[up][up] Gray Voice only appeared in the manga, but there is a hint of him in Zero Mission in a drawing done by Samus with her and two Chozo. One is obviously Old Bird. The other is unknown, but many believe it's Gray Voice since Zero Mission uses artwork design from the manga.

I mean, humans only admit that humans are sapient and refuse possibility that other animals might be sapient too because it would be uncomfortable for humans to think of how intelligence animals they eat, keep captive or kill casually are tongue

Yeah, we made up the concept of sapience and defined it very specifically to only apply to ourselves. And whenever another animal edges near it, we'll quickly move the goalposts so it doesn't count. It's a pseudo-scientific way of saying "has a soul" and has just as much basis in observable reality.

[up][up][up][up]The manga however notes that the Chozo are doomed to extinction. None of the surviving Chozo are capable of reproduction anymore.

Metroid Dread didn't retcon Samus's other bird dads, Raven Beak was just one of her DNA donors, but he's so arrogant that he consider all of these other Chozo donors irrelevant.
