Can somebody, please, describe me the clear distinction between these two tropes? I tried reading both pages, but still was unable to see the difference. To me, they both seem to describe the same thing: "a character wants to avoid the violence, but will fight back if necessary".

Seems like the difference is why they avoid the violence:

  • A Martial Pacifist avoids fighting first because he is a *pacifist*. He has no qualms about throwing down if need be.
  • A Reluctant Warrior avoids fighting first because he really doesn’t want to do it for personal reasons. His avoidance is not a guiding principle he strives to follow.
