We also have Monster Sob Story to talk about
We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenzaMonster Sob Story is currently in TRS and is likely going to be converted into a disambig.
As for Tragic Monster, I think the Laconic/Playing With pages has the correct definition, while any usage outside of it is misuse. Note that we also have Tortured Monster where a monstrous being has sympathetic circumstances.

Okay, so the trope is "nice character turns into monster over the course of the work" not a general "monster has a tragic backstory" than.
That's already Face–Monster Turn
I thought Tortured Monster is about monsters who are "tortured", whether figuratively or literally?

I am a bit confused as to what counts as an example for Tragic Monster. The description, laconic and playing with pages seem to indicate that it is specifically about a likeable character who becomes a monster over the course of a work but I have seen it used a number of times simply for any monster with a sympathetic backstory. Is this second interpretation Tropes Are Flexible or misuse?
