I wouldn't say Endeavor was light grey initially, but he definitely is now.

I'm sure there's a very nuanced and respectable opinion about this entire situation...that nobody will ever actually agree on.

If they're gonna try and take the moral high ground by accusing people of being unable to accept every side has a point only to call a guy quite literally aiming at genocide and killing his little brother just to spite daddy "morally grey" and then deride people for claiming he's "black or white", I'm not gonna sit and take it. Again, sanctimonious assholes are one of the things I hate the most.

If they have a problem with other's opinions on a character they like, just say so, don't try and call out others and act all self-righteous over it. Like I'm doing right now. I hate Dabi for the reasons I've said enough to be a Broken Record, I hate dealing with Dabistans due to the fact they kill my brain cells just from reading their stupidity, and I hate sanctimonious assholes who try to act all high and mighty when they have little ground to stand on. Thank you for coming to my "Not!Ted Talk", since I am in no way an expert and am just giving my own bullshit opinion.

I rest my case.

Last I checked, most of us on the forums agreed that Dabi is an asshole and the Dabistans are annoying, so your case is faulty.

I've seen shipping drama and yeah, this is more annoying.

They both suck in general. But yes, the Dabi discourse is way more annoying since its at the forefront right now.

The linked post seemed to be mostly making the point that sending people death threats for liking Dabi is an unreasonable response, which I agree with. They're also not very specific about what they mean by "liking" him; "I think he's an amazingly well written villain" is a lot different than "DABI DID NOTHING WRONG" (which, while ridiculous, still doesn't deserve death threats).

Constantly seeking it out and repeatedly having these discussions about it isn't helping.

This manga gets way too much unnecessary controversy.

No wonder people have a low opinion of the general fandom.

It's shit like this that makes me try to stay off tumblr. It's not just this series. tumblr takes on anything are horrible in general. Only reason I keep making the mistake of going back is to look for fanart.

At that point isn't it just better to look for fanart somewhere else considering how much this seems to piss you off?

Look, I get this is a....difficult subject. But there's really no reason to be so intense about it?

People are free to interpret things however they like, it only starts becoming problematic when you start forcing your interpretations onto people and attack others over it. And that goes opposite too, just because someone has an interpretation that you don't agree with doesn't mean they are any less deserving of respect, if they aren't being assholes. :/

You can hate Dabi and think he's a despicable villain while acknowledging the circumstances surrounding his situation. You can express pity towards Dabi's apparent upbringing and lamet his situation while not condoning the actions he has taken in response to said upbringing, and pretty much anything in between that. This is not an "either or" thing, and that's what people are kind of tired of. Opinions are not mutually exclusive, you can have more than one that seemingly contradict each other and they are no less valid.

Most people unfortunately keep the fanart to either tumblr, deviantart, pixiv, or twitter. deviantart has too much low quality, pixiv has unrated NSFW, and twitter lacks an adequate means to search for it.

I can't even bring myself to feel sorry for Toya anymore though since his current behaviors have long eclipsed what his backstory gives him in terms of sympathy. And you know its bad when I can still sympathize with the others like Toga, Tomura, and Jin, yet am this fed up with Dabi.
And yeah, people process trauma differently, but so long as Shoto has suffered worse than Toya ever did, nothing Toya suffered warrants him becoming a genocidal maniac, especially when he suffered little if at all compared to Shoto.

That's fine too, but you don't have to be an asshole to people who don't agree on Tumblr is what I'm saying.

I mean, you're not wrong, but I feel like that attitude also doesn't help. Maybe we need to stop thinking the worst of each other automatically.

I disagree with that.

Because we can all agree that no one can agree.

I kind of figured this was going to happen the longer Hori kept readers in the dark about Dabi. It was built up for so long, that fans were able to build up all sorts of interpretations and headcanons that when the reveal actually happened, it was bound to be different from what people would have interpreted.

To quote a megalomaniac from a certain top grossing film of all time; "Reality is often disappointing"

x4 I wear that badge with pride every time humanity does something even dumber than the last. Since it just makes sure I never get disgusted by the frankly disgusting lows this pathetic excuse for a species can stoop to.

Seeing how people react to the fiction they consume is always interesting because you always get to learn what kind of people they are from how they respond. Yes it's going to be annoying at times, but that's also why it's timeless.
