Billy West, on his Twitter, just confirmed his reprisal of both Ren and Stimpy for the reboot.

Interesting, he also says there's a possibility some of the original team like Bob Camp and Bill Wray are on board too.

I hope they have a more enjoyable time with this run.

Bob explicitly said he wasn't involved last year and wanted to get involved. If he is indeed involved in this... I wonder what's going on.

Maybe this is a new thing and they decided they ought to call upon the people who know the series.

There'll probably be a denial in a little while if it isn't true, but I don't think Billy would say something like that if he didn't know it was true.

Maybe he wasn't involved when the show was initially announced, but became involved sometime later on.

The fact he mentions Bill Wray and Jim Gomez means there may be some truth to this. Neither of them were asked to come back either...

But both Bob Camp and Bill Wray are active on social media. Let's see what they say first.

Hey, for an R&S revival, I'm fine with anyone who isn't you-know-who.

You-know-who can go right ahead and bungee-jump off the Grand Canyon for all I care. We don't need him.

It's the word "think" that worries me. On the one hand, that seems suspicious, but on the other hand, why would he say something like that if it was easily disprovable?

[up] He's probably waiting for a proper convention or for everything to be checked out before really spilling the beans.

Side note, I actually forgot how livid we were about this revival existing until now. I mean, are we still livid? Or have we all calmed down at this point?

Well, if the original guys are involved it can't be all bad.

Last I heard Bob was at Nickelodeon working on some of the new Sponge Bob stuff. So it's plausible he could be involved, but until he says something it's not the gospel truth.

[up][up][up][up]I mean if he was involved, none of these guys would likely even think of taking part, especially not West, who refused to do Adults Party on that basis.

And yeah, I mean they did the Games Animation episodes, which weren't as consistent as the Spumco ones, but still had some gold moments. I do wonder if Nick would breathe down their neck less for this one.

Based on some recent job listings, it looks like the reboot will have its preproduction note  outsourced to Awesome Inc., an Altanta-based US Studio that usually collaborates on Adult Swim's bumpers.

A big red flag for some people, besides this show's continual production, is that it'll be going to a non-union studio. (For reference, Nick Animation is unionized.) The timing comes off as rather poor, and seemingly not a coincidence, in light of the IATSE situation where unionized California film/tv industry workers demanded better work and pay conditions.

Someone I know claimed that Bob Camp had spoken to the crew on the show asking if he could work on it (he is apparently not on it at present). So I thought they already had a crew, and it was located in L.A.

Did Viacom decide to fire the crew and hire cheaper labor?... What exactly is going on? Will this be shelved again because they can't make it work?

(The animation union would have gone on strike in solidarity, but the IATSE strike largely did not concern them.)

[up] I do find it interesting that Ren & Stimpy isn't even the only Comedy Central project sent to Awesome Inc., as the Daria spin-off Jodie has been sent to the same place for similar preproduction duties. It could very well have cheaper labor as one benefit for this decision.

There's a small rumor mill that this is basically a Take 2 on the original reboot's plans, hence the inconsistent information, dead silence and surprise announcements from Billy West about being a part of this.

Apparently yes, it is, and they decided to take it off the shelf. I wonder if they did so thinking that no one was going to be offended as they were when it was first announced... there wasn't a lot of outrage, unlike last year.

Snipple Animation just made a recuitment post for animation training at their studio. The accompanying thumbnail is a pretty obvious teaser of their involvement.

If you open it in a private window it'll work. It did for me.

But anyway, it's been maybe a year since the last we've heard of this. I wonder what's going on. Perhaps the time-honored Ren and Stimpy tradition of production problems has come up again?

or maybe Rem and Stimpy is just that tainted and they need to stop doing reboots for old properties?

Have some respect. Without Ren & Stimpy, we wouldn't have the cartoons we have right now; I'd argue it's far more influential than The Simpsons.

I wasn't exactly happy about this, and I'm still not very happy, but I feel slightly better about it since Bob Camp gave it his blessing. If he thinks it's in good hands, it probably won't outright suck.

Not so. A lot of what Ren And Stimpy pioneered became the standard in animation - the storyboard-driven style of writing, for example. And we can't forget that guys like Genndy Tartakovsky, Craig Mc Cracken, etc. were all fans and were heavily influenced by it - so much so they got R&S guys to work on their shows.

So without Ren And Stimpy, indeed, the whole animation world would be much different.

[up] Besides, weren't they the butt of several jokes? I know The Simpsons wasted no time in pointing and laughing at R&S.
