Hell yeah! He still has lips, but they fixed them to not be terrible, and it looks like they even changed his official first name to be Joco, and turned "Chocolove" into a nickname (probably his street name repurposed into a stage name)! That's exactly what I've been suggesting, it's perfect!

Like, holy shit. I saw, but I didn't really see. Once again, I'm in.

I'm so glad they didn't give him The Lips, but also didn't remove his mouth entirely. The manga lips looked cringe-worthy, but the edits in the English version to censor them out looked even worse sometimes, it was really obvious and damaged the emotion of the art. This is a fantastic medium, he still has lips, but they're drawn like a normal person.

I'm so happy we're going to get a version of Shaman King where Joco's lips look normal from start to finish, without being horribly offensive or horribly censored either. The name change is just the cherry on top. Joco is one of my favorite characters in this series, either him or Faust, and I can't wait to appreciate his design every single time he's on-screen, instead of a part of me cringing every time.

I'm vaguely aware of who you're talking about, from what I'm seeing with a google search, they've been constantly updating 008's design to be less and less racist with each adaptation.

Cyborg 009 is great, but 008 had the same problem as Joco until the 2001 reboot. And that only covered the highlights of the original series. But more than that it's something that undermines part of the messaging of the original work in retrospect.

DAMNIT! I mean, it's awesome to get a new trailer and it shows a whole bunch of cool stuff from the manga, but damnit! Why Netflix?! I just want to watch anime week-to-week without having to pirate, that too much to ask Netflix?!

...I know it was silly, but I was really hoping they'd find a way to keep Oversoul and all the old tunes.

Ah well. The new song doesn't sound too bad.

The premiere date is April 1, 2021. So, it will be 20 years after the first series premiered.

I mean. I have Netflix, so I'm fine with this? Helps that I never really saw the initial anime, so I can dive into this new anime no problem. It also helps that this looks really kickass.

The issue is presumably this show will be a long one meaning Netflix won't actually air it until probably a year after it starts.

Which is annoying.

The problem is that, unless Netflix has changed its policies recently, the anime is going to be airing on a weekly schedule on TV in Japan but it's not going to be weekly released on Netflix. Netflix is going to wait until the season is done before they release the whole series as a big chunk, which means people who want to watch it on Netflix are going to have to wait months before they can watch, and they're going to completely miss out on the conversation as it's happening.

That being said, I understand there are many who share the opposite feeling and as such, I see the problem that this development can have.

I would assume Netflix wants to adopt a "nobody gets left behind" stance, so as to avoid people whining that it isn't in English already, but again, some people prefer subs over dubs, sooooo...

Considering the fact that there might be a potential English dub for the series later on, I have a few questions. Do you guys think everyone will be inevitably recast since the 4Kids dub of the 2001 anime last aired in North America in 2005? If the 2001 anime also appeared on Netflix, would the potential dub cast for the 2021 anime reprise their roles for that version?

No its only because Netflix only airs everything they have in the binge model. It has to be all at once, always.

Its not about dubs and subs, not every show anime they have even airs with a dub. Baki season 2 aired with its dub delayed.

Its just Netflix's viewing model to which they are rigidly stuck too.

I might gonna get some disagreements, But I hope this reboot will be a weekly long-runner anime but still stays faithful to the manga like Hunter X Hunter 2011 and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Yep, and not to mention that Xebec, who did the animation for the 2001 adaptation, closed down in 2019.

I would not mind a straight to the finish anime as long as the quality is consistently good.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this reboot. Hoping it turns out well.
