And if you're a black person, they'll invent a crime whether you've resisted arrest or not. Maybe they'll claim you resisted arrest anyway.
Hence the extremely common They were on drugs! defense or He had a gun/He was trying to grab my gun defense.
They used both defenses in regards to Elijah to beat on him when they already had Elijah pinned down.
SOF Mag has an article that has the details on Trump's EO.
The FBI tweeted for any assistance to look for suspects who vandalized federal property in Lafayette Square.
The "resisting arrest" thing is worrying for me as an autistic, as well. I am certain my completely involuntary and unstoppable reaction to being touched, that is to yelp and lash out or try to get away, will not go down well with the police.
Everybody's all "Jerry's old and feeble" till they see him run down a skyscraper and hijack a helicopter mid-flight.Yup, autism advocacy is how I first became aware of this particular police ghoulishness.
The main reason why it happens is pretty ghoulish too.
Because it's often not even about the victim's blackness. Hence why autists also get affected by this and why even cops who are not, themselves, actively racist are frequently involved in this.
What happens is that the police get called out to a place where 'someone is acting suspicious' and upon arriving discover that there's no actual crime going on, there's just some black guy there whose mere existence frightened a Karen...
And because they're frustrated and if they make no arrest then it's a waste of their time... And you can't arrest a Karen for being a Karen, they decide to take their frustration out on the victim and make sure it wasn't a waste of their time by getting their booking (on grounds of resisting arrest) any way.
Angry gets shit done.Elijah mentioned that he was an introvert and liked some distance between him and others. It's likely with that comment that him resisting arrest was likely him having a panic attack coupled with an asthma attack. People don't say stuff like that unless it's serious.
From reading up about him, that poor guy in general was was really sickly whether with mental or physical. He still sounded like a sweet guy nevertheless. I hope the cops get arrested and jailed.

Oh of course they are going to bat for Andrew fucking Jackson, one of the most detestable presidents in fucking history.
Andrew Johnson is probably up there, honestly.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)Andrew Jackson was the original Trump, the statue deserves to be destroyed or shoved into a museum.
Fuck that noise, I hope the charges don't stick.
Jackson is certainly not a hill prosecutors should wish to die on in history books.
Dunno that much about Johnson. Gimme a mo'... <google-google>
OK — knocking that down isn't the end of the world. Guy didn't really support the end of slavery so much as get dragged into it by Lincoln and others with a lot of kicking and screaming. Not as bad as Jackson, but doesn't deserve as much as a bronze medalion, let alone statues.

Jonson was Lincoln’s southern Democrat VP who was never meant to become president, he was put on the ticket during the civil war as a unity move, as president he actively opposed the granting of citizenship to freed-slaves and got himself impeached over it. He also ended reconstruction and provided federal cover for southern states introducing Jim Crow laws.

Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. As if the horrific racism wasn't bad enough, Jackson tried his very best to more or less demolish the USA's economy. He literally killed the Bank of the USA, something that would later lead to a panic and a depression.
It's somewhat ironic that Jackson is on the twenty dollar bill.

Disgusted, but not surprisedIt says felony charges, but what actual charges?
Avatar SourceGot done reading a solid book and it touched on the various statements and beliefs of people from the era from the civil war and yeah Jackson should go. A good part of south's blind adherence to slavery and other crap they pulled came from him in one form or another.

Who watches the watchmen?Don't most states require probably cause before someone can be arrested?
Resisting Arrest is a very vague charge and can be brought up by any officer. It's considered a separate charge too, so even if you're innocent of the original charge, they can still put you in jail for Resisting Arrest.
"In a move surprising absolutely no one"Not what I'm asking. Before you can resist arrest, they have to arrest you. Don't they need probable cause to do that?
As someone mentionned earlier, it depends on the state. Some require probable cause, some don't.
Probable cause is a federal standard. It’s needed for any arrest.
However, if you resisted an arrest that an officer didn’t have probable cause to make, you could still be charged with resisting in some states.
They should have sent a poet. They need probable cause for the arrest to be valid, not to make it. As said it’s still possible to be charged with resisting arrest for an invalid arrest.
Police face no consequences for making arrests without probable cause, it’s why you often here about people being arrested, held for a certain amount of time then released without charge (but often with their life destroyed due to now having an arrest record and possibly having lost their job).

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranNazi symbol spotted at Massachusetts State House pro-police rally draws scrutiny
Funny how Nazi symbols keep showing up around pro-police stuff.
But yes, to state the implications of "resisting arrest is a crime": police are able to arrest people merely on suspicion of involvement in a crime (which, inherently, isn't a flawed concept). Now, people simply minding their own business where they have every right to be can therefore be placed under arrest.
Which is to say: supporting criminalisation of resisting arrest is supporting the notion that innocent people minding their business have no right to be bewildered and upset at being falsely accused and dragged off. Saintlike patience is a rarity, not expected behaviour.
And this is even worse because this also ties into police violence and deaths, where resisting arrest somehow escalates to lethal force.
