It's one of my top 25 anime. I love the original OVA's especially.
One thing I've heard a lot of people notice is that Aoi's character aged very well. It's better then a lot of trans rep in modern anime. I have heard some speculate it's because she predates the rise of Otokonoko Genre and Transgender Fetishization.

The English dub done by Coastal was also good. Shame that they didn’t come back for the other two seasons.

I think I only missed the most recent anime. The last one I remember was when that high schooler in one season joined as a rookie.
Did I imagine the massive quality change in between those seasons too? Because I remember one season where it was pretty much OVA level quality.

I'm rechecking it again. Has some good/funny memories when the series got released out of Japan and into parts of English-speaking Asia in the early 2000s IIRC via AXN. Enjoyed the 1999 movie and I'm trying my best to listen to the commentary despite having limited Japanese listening skills, though I can understand some of it via Blu-Ray commentary. IMO, the movie looks good in 1080p.
