TL;DR version: does the "shyness" in Shrinking Violet refers to generic shyness or more strictly referring to social anxiety?

For more than 10 years I am under the impression that Shrinking Violet is a easily defined and applied trope.

And then I encountered an edge case. It's discussed to some degree in this TF query, but no consensus has been made. To summarise, the character in question does not, at any point, show any social anxiety, but she has a fear of speaking. Whether this is Shrinking Violet seems to split TF's regulars; Unsung takes the broader sense of the word and decides she is; Scorpion 451 takes the stricter view and thinks she isn't.

I am increasing think the trope refers to a broader meaning of shyness, but am I right?
