Hit By The Frame Bus And Now I'm In A Poorly-Coded Fantasy World

Galdra takes off his hood as his expression lights up.

"It's showtime." He says to himself in a dramatic tone. His expression becomes serious, yet he has a huge grin on his face.

"From what I've personally observed, this appears go be a somewhat common fantasy world. You'll most likely see more animal people such as me along the way along with elves, half elves, straight up furry people and so on." He takes in a breath, having not breathed since he started his sentence.

"This also appears to be in a medieval setting, as obvious as that should be to all of us... We'll likely encounter monsters along our journey such as dragons, orcs, goblins and spiders." He takes in another breath. "Do not however, and I repeat: Do not underestimate a single soul on this world." He says.

"Especially wizards. Don't fuck with wizards."

Aoife – Raykbay Dungeons

“...Right,” Aoife blinked at Galdra's conclusion, otherwise relieved that the situation had been resolved (and that Lana and stopped herself from being eaten by the wall). To his credit, the cat boy seemed to know what he was talking about. But by that point it was only confirming the suspicions she was already having.

“So... we were all hit by a bus, right?” she said slowly, beginning to rub her temple with her fingers as she recalled the vague comments from them regarding said bus when they had first woken up. “Then we died... woke up here, in some... buggy, medieval fantasy– is this what hell is?” she finally questioned, chuckling nervously as she put her ridiculous thoughts out for a moment. “People die or have near-death experiences and they see... this? I... don't know how to feel about that.”

The Grim Reaper's a bus. Holy s***.

“Anyway, um...” she paused, shaking herself out of her slight stupor at the situation and instead focusing back on their defeated opponent. “I don't mind too much about coin. Honestly, I agree with Lana. I'd rather get out of here and see where we really are. And this place is getting stuffy anyway.”

Her discus performed an idle rotation cycle on her back, which apart from tickling her also made her wince as she was reminded of what had happened earlier.

“Uh... sorry about the whole fireball thing. Again. Seriously, I'll try to be more careful with that. Maybe I have something more...”

The discus floated around in front of her, and she frowned at it, mentally going through possible options. She knew she had some sort of fireball spell, and by her robes she knew she was a sorcerer or mage here. The question is, did she have any other spells...?

The tingling in her spine seemed to shift positions from time to time whenever she activated that ready state of sparks from her body—the state that had before indicated that she was about to launch a fireball. Except if she focused it more to her left, the sparks seemed to turn from a fiery red to a more calming shade of green. An experimental projection of it through her hands (this time away from her allies—not that it did anything in this case) caused a greenish wisp of energy to circle around those in her general vicinity with an accompanying bubbling noise.

“...That did something,” she said slowly, having a feeling what the effect was already. “Tell me if you guys feel any different, okay? Hopefully... better.

Maaris sighed, the way Galdra went from moping to enthusiastic made the idea of hanging out long term sound exhausting, and they actually had to live out the "game", so she wouldn't get to go home and take a break like when she had to deal with overly quirky tabletop buddies... But she was glad to see him over that little freak out.

Maaris: "All good observations, but we've got more immediate concerns. like what's going on with the moon, why that nearly broke this building already, and how far away do we need to run to be safe if this town is doomed"

Galdra thinks for a little while, recalling his very last memory of his previous life again. "Yeah... I got hit by a bus as well..." He said, nodding.

"I'm okay... Don't worry!!" He gives a thumbs up and grins. "I'm strong now, so I can handle it!" He says, rather enthusiastically.

He thinks about what Maaris had said, about the destruction of the town... "To be honest... I'm not really sure if I care about this town?" He says somewhat quietly. "I mean, we just got here... It's not like a sexy goddess told us to save this town, or anything."

Runi:If there's even a town left to save...

-He shakes his head-

Besides, what should it matter if some kinda goddess told us to save people or not. You see people that need help, then help them.

-He picks up the bag of coins as an idle thought crosses his mind-

"Wonder how that new spell works...Haste (1s)!

-Runi's body gains a red outline momentarily and a small icon appears in the corner of his vision, with a "1s" timer below it.-

"Improving all action speeds by 200%...hm...like chucking things?"

-A slightly dickish thought comes to mind as he re-ups the spell-

"Galdra, think fast!"

-With the buff active, he attempts to heave the bag at the catboy. Watches the bag fly in an arc...-

-And looks down at the bag in his hand still-

"Wha-"

Galdras cat ears perk up as he looks up at the bag Runi just through. He uses his flail to tear the bag apart, leaving whatever contents it would have inside to be falling to the ground.

"Heave... ho!!" He says as he lifted the ball part of the flatl then whipped it towards the bag.

He sighs and says. "Dude...". His expression and tone is one of clear disappointment.

"Ooh, you sound like you really know your stuff, Galdra." Lana said with a smile. Looked like this guy really knew his stuff, it would do well to stay on his good side. "Well hey, how do we deal with wizards then? Clearly there's some..." She wiggled her spear at the door the Salvage Frame came out of. "Some magic bullshit here. I dunno if I buy all this about getting hit by a bus and getting taken here but yeah, I got hit by a bus, and I might as well lean in on this dope dream."

Maaris: "We're a bunch of level 1 adventurers, we're probably gonna have to get stronger before we do much saving people, sexy goddesses or no"

She shrugged and nodded to Aiofe

"I didn't notice if it was a bus, but pretty sure it was some sort of vehicle, yeah..." Kind of weird I'm the only 'monster' race here though... Unless this place thinks animal people are monsters too

Her little reverie was broken by Aiofe's magical experiment and she looked up as the magical energy settled in. It felt soothing and also energizing at the same time, like some of her residual tiredness was bubbling away.

"Huh... Yeah, that feels nice. Healing magic?"

Aoife – Raykbay Dungeons

“Yeah. Guess so. Just glad it wasn't poison,” Aoife chuckled, before preemptively raising her hands to quell any possible panic. “Not– uh, I knew it wasn't though! Just... went by a feeling. It's weird. It's like this tingle in my spine, or something. That one felt... I dunno, heal-y. Glad it worked though!”

She offered a chipper smile to Maaris, seemingly pleased that she had managed to contribute something properly now. A following glance to Galdra and the others appeared to communicate curiosity and slight confusion—her gaze landing on Galdra's flail and Lana's spear in particular.

“So you guys all have bugs, right? Weird... I wonder what mine is...” she hummed, summoning her discus and studying it intently as it floated around and between her hands—the enchanted object emanating a soft warbling sound as it shifted between configurations like some elaborate slotted puzzle. “Maybe it's something to do with this... but I dunno, I'll have to figure it out. Guess we should find our way out of here though, right?”

The world shudders for a moment as the coinpouch is thrown and unthrown at the same time.

Astratamere version 33.908 patch notes:
->Disabled all Haste spells due to multiple extremely persistent exploits.
->Error discovery credit dispensed to Runicas.

The world resumes again, it seems beyond the ambient, looping sound of devastation outside there's really nothing happening in here. All that remains is a doorway stair leading upwards and the persistent quest log objective in your heads: Escape

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Galdra looked at Lana. "Yeah... not sure if we have Levels, though." He said.

His ears perked up at the sounds that emitted from the outside, then again as he got the message that appeared within his third eye. "D-did you guys get that...?" He said with a tone of confusion.

-Runi shakes his head after his patch goes through-

Hope nobody needed that spell...

Runi:The "Escape" thing? Yeah...different than my head voice, even.

-He nods-

In any case...not much good it'll do to sit around here. We better head up.

-Pocketing the dropped potion, Runicas heads toward the stairs-

Maaris nodded in response to Aiofe and, once the newest patch notes disappeared, gave the elf a metallic pat on the back.

Maaris: "I'm sure you'll get something, either way you're still our mage"

She smiled back and enthusiastically headed for the exit as her metal sheen faded, despite not needing healing it seems the spell put a bit of pep in her step. Or maybe she was just feeling more confident now that they've beaten their first monster.

"Come on Lana, Catboy, the sooner we get out of here the less likely we are to get a building dropped on our heads!"

"Screw it, yeah, nowhere better to go and no need for caution if I can just ghost through a wall." Lana replied, and went running after Maaris and Runicas. Really interesting that she basically still looked like herself unlike everyone else, if a bit more bulked and filled out. "Where are you guys from by the way? I'm from Denver myself."

Aoife – Raykbay Dungeons

Aoife smiled a little at Maaris' assurance, but once she had turned away she winced and rolled her shoulders in an effort to lesson the pain from the metal pat on the back. It hadn't even been that hard, but it had dug in more than a little. She made a mental note to warn her to watch her strength. Or... hardiness, thinking about it. Nonetheless, she caught up with the others with an apparent look of amusement.

“‘Your’ mage, huh? Heh. Anyways, I'm from Ireland. Well, originally I mean. Moved to the UK a little while back. Probably a mistake, but... y'know...” she shrugged, offering a lopsided grin. “Don't like being stuck in one place too much. Like adventure, y'know what I mean?”

Aoife's interpretation of her encouragement surprised and confused Maaris, had she phrased things poorly again? The elf seemed amused, so she probably hadn't insulted her, but that 'your' made things sound WAY more personal than Maaris intended, which seemed impossible considering she was a weirdo gamer before and now she was a slime, no way someone was actually interested in someone like her. She must have misheard.

Damnit, brain, now is not the time to pay attention to the fact she's pretty

Maaris: "I, uh... Yeah, I get that, my family moved a lot. Most recently from Montana but haven't lived there long. But I guess this is the right place for an adventure!"

She grinned awkwardly and brushed a tendril of blue 'hair' away from her face while she tried to dismiss the sudden question of what kinds of meanings "Adventurous" could have... Or whether slimes could blush (though it sure felt like she was).

"So, three former Americans, an Irish elf, and an English cat all wind up in the same prison in the same weird fantasy setting, go figure"

Galdra looked towards Maaris, and tried to contain his laughter while smiling, as though he knew exactly what she was thinking. But at the same time, he thought that the oddly blushing slime was pretty adorable.

He sighs in a successful effort to contain himself. "Well, at least we're not in a Damp Fouls fantasy world. Know what I mean?" He says towards Maaris with a smug cat smile. He then gives of a wink in an attempt to tell Maaris that he knows.

The stairs exit out into the above-ground part of the town's garrison; the issue is there isn't much of the fort left, it's been blasted away by some kind of force. The sound of battle is more obvious here as is the source: People all around fighting against more of the same machines you just faced. Somewhere to your left someone screams as a Frame catches light from above in it's mirror-face and disintegrates a person.

Above you is what looks like a maelstrom made of stars. Pinpricks of light swirling and blazing above you, it is almost painfully bright to look at.

From here, the way the wreckage has panned out there is a single, straight corridor from the fort ruins you have come up into and the gate out of town. It would be a straight run to get out of the town, there are no enemies in that narrow debris-bordered passage to stop you.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

"I'm starting to buy that idea about the world being really shittily made." Lana pointed to the clear, Crash Bandicoot lookin-ass straight shot to freedom dead ahead. She got herself down in a runner's stance and took a few breaths to get ready to bolt. "I'm thinking we can just run for it, no bothering to stand and fight, right? Everyone still in a good shape to move?"

Maaris: "E-eh? ...Oh, yeah. No, I'd hate to risk my soul rotting after getting killed by zombies a few hundred times..."

She blushed worse as Galdra's insinuating winking initially made it sound like he's trying to say something entirely different. She shook her head to try and ignore the question of where Galdra's mind was at and quickly headed up the stairs to avoid further embarrassment. the catboy certainly seemed interested in how well their current party was getting along, at the very least...

Once Maaris arrive at the surface The sights and sounds were enough to pull her flustered mind back towards survival. One robot monster hadn't been too bad but this situation was an entirely different story, especially when they could use the bizarrely intense light in the sky as a death beam.

Maaris: "Yeah, running sounds good... For all we know they mayor would just throw us back in prison even if we helped this time"

“I wouldn't mind helping out but I think I'm ready to run,” Aoife answered, looking around at the conflict (however artificial) with a look of concern. Her discus spiralled around her person for a moment in readiness, before settling again at her back. “As long as you guys are.”

There was almost a hint of challenge to her words, but it soon gave way to a look of mild confusion as she registered how flustered Maaris was. What had she said? Galdra she at least understood, but she'd started acting awkward since–

Oh. Right. Your mage.

Ah well. At least she now knew where the slime girl was mentally. And she had material for teasing if she felt the urge to. She grinned somewhat wickedly. She got the feeling her time here would be anything but dull.

Galldra smiled at Aofie's expression, chuckling a little. "Guess i'll let her handle the rest... no need for me to get involved." He thought.

Just then... He saw the guy get vaporized. His expression was one of... Confusement. And shock, as though he had just seen a jumpscare in a video game. "Did I just... See that?" He scanned everyones expression. They either didn't notice, nor care. "I suppose it was..." He thinks again.

His gut feeling tells him otherwise, though. "In videos game, when you defeat monsters and solve quests, you always get a reward of sorts." He says to the party members. "Maybe if we defeat this monster, we'll get one?"
