While the outbreak started around New Year's Day (12/31), it's picking up steam around the Asia-Pacific region especially since Mainland Chinese people tend to travel a lot.
For reference, the BNO Newsroom twitter has a special feed for any info on the coronavirus:

An article from the Philippine Daily Inquirer that shows the virus affects the various classes, especially those from the urban poor/lower class.
Best wishes to your family Wyldchyld. I hope for the best.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.@Wyld: I pray your aunt gets through it okay.
Amazingly, even though I live in the heart of the Bay Area, everyone I know is still fine. Thank God for that.
It's been interesting starting a new job in the middle of all this. Office is really empty, next to no traffic on the streets. New employee orientation was done on Skype.
Best wishes to your aunt, Wyld!
We're doing good in Bur house. My mom's got cabin fever, but she had heart surgery in December and is still feeling mortal from that, so she's behaving. I got some veggies planted today, and I joined a local CSA box thing so starting in May I'll be able to pick up produce direct from a local farm (at a distance... plant hostage handover??). I'm usually hit and miss with my own gardening, but watch my veggies go gangbusters while also getting weekly veggies.
Trumphead sister has gone back to her ways of wondering if the media is exaggerating the death count to hurt Trump. /sigh

i. hear. a. sound.@Wyld We’ll be thinking good thoughts for her.
Glad that my Grandma hasn’t gone back to crazy trumper, so far.
Has anyone else had the bizarre experience of any Fox News addled, Trump loving relatives suddenly see him for the narcissistic idiot that he actually is, once they saw how serious this was getting?

Sorry about that, Wyld. Nobody in my immediate family is sick. One of our neighbors had a scare but it turned out to be asthma. Crossing fingers we stay sufficiently isolated.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I'll pray for your aunt, Wyld, for what that's worth.
Well, none of mine ever drank the Kool-aid. (Being Muslim Sudanese immigrants was probably a factor.)

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Surprise, surprise: China's nightmare may be far from over. A county in Henan province, just north of Hubei, goes into lockdown when a few people in a hospital tested positive.
Scaled seeker. My grandma was definitely part of the Trump Cult.
She even told us that she thought he was good looking once.

I've heard stories of people comparing this disease to smallpox. How do they even compare?
Scaled seekerI think the comparison might be more about using the example of Native Americans not having inborn immunity to old world diseases like Smallpox, as a way to understand why the virus is so devastating.
It’s new, which means that no one has immunity to it.

My best wishes for you and your family Wyld (a bit late, I know).
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Well aside from trying to keep busy, including from practicing my suburi swings in kendo and trying to get back to writing (Fanfiction/original), I'm going to try and apply for remote work with a risk management company in DC.
As far as natural immunity goes, we haven't heard much from the tens of thousands of recovered patients across the world, other than describing their experiences from catching the bug.
There are also sporadic reports of discharged patients testing positive again in parts of Japan, China and Korea (the latest being a sketchy SCMP article, while the other two are well over a month ago) but who knows what became of them since I haven't found any other articles mentioning the "reinfected" patients.
Scaled seekerI'm kinda stressed out, I'm high risk with an autoimmune disease and I'm "essential". If I lose my job I'd probably die; no one else has an insurance policy that touches my medication with any sort of reasonable co-pay.
My entire immediate family is high-risk for one reason or another. My dad and grandfather are both conspiracy-loving Trump worshipers and have both been going into stores every damned day and bragging to their friends "See I'm fine it's all fake news!" . My grandfather in particular basically has a non-functioning immune system. My mom is also going shopping every day because they don't cook at their house.
Another grandparent is a CNA and in her late 70's with COPD. She's the only one taking this seriously but can't do much in her situation.
There's some discussion of the fact that you may carry the virus a bit longer after you get better or haven't completely gotten over it. One thing I note is that survivors are currently being tested for plasma donation as that might be a possible treatment—albeit one that can't possibly handle the numbers going on.

That TN interview was from a day ago or so.
I'm trying to get more info out of Russia. Seems with the lockdown in place, there's suggestions that Putin may have caught it.
And the BBC has a vid on misinformation (also) coming from Russia and how some Russians are skeptical.

Omi, I see a lot of Filipinos on Twitter and social media platforms starting to turn their backs on the Duterte government. If things get uglier, do you think that rioting might break out?
Scaled seekerMostly it's just due to local government trying to do the best they can and Duterte wants to put his foot down and tell them "follow our goddamn rules".
Not so much rioting despite his threats to shoot at violators who try to breach quarantine (Tough guy talk). The PNP chief had to go out in person to mention that his officers will do no such thing.
Some of the urban poor/lower classes are complaining that some of the food aid hasn't reached their places. Duterte assured the protestors that they'll get the food.

10 new cases in Taiwan today, eight imported and 2 domestic.
Total is now at 339, with 48 domestic, 5 deaths, and 50 released.
Disgusted, but not surprisedChina has admitted to 1500 asymptomatic cases they didn't detect and says a Second Wave is coming.

Ouch, my sympathies Wyld.
It is sobering to realize that we are all likely to know at least one person who will catch it or has caught it. Or get it ourselves.
Disgusted, but not surprised
