One of the protagonists in my story works on a TV show, and the other protagonists are mentioned to be fans of the show. I'm wondering how much focus I should give to the show. So far, I've only given a basic summary of what the show's about and at one point one of the characters watches the show and some lines of dialogue are shown to the audience. I don't think these are too intrusive. However, I am thinking about giving the audience some more tidbits about what's going on behind the scenes in the show. For instance, the show is getting retooled to be about a character the audience really likes.

On the one hand, if a character works on a TV show, it makes sense to hear some details about what's going on behind the scenes. On the other hand, these really don't add much to the story, beyond giving insight into one character's job.

Give it as much focus as necessary to tell your story. However much focus that will be is up to the story you're trying to write.
