In the same way that "Batman is the real person, and Bruce Wayne is the mask" is something that Frank Miller brought, but Nolan's trilogy was in charge of popularizing.

I still don't buy the stance that Batman is the man and Bruce is the mask take. They both are the mask and the real him is some what of combination of the two.

It is in character for Batman to deny the importance of his Bruce Wayne self to focus all in on Batman

Which is a shame, because Pre-nolan Bruce Wayne had his good times as when he lined up at Gray Ghost's book firm.

“The Grey Ghost was my hero. And he still is”

___

Honestly Frank Miller also popularized the rivalry of Batman and Superman, which is a rivalry that only benefits Batman.

[up][up] Batman ALSO has character arcs where denying the importance of his Bruce Wayne side just leads to problems and limits his effectiveness.

Like in some part of Infinite Crisis, and No Man's Land off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more.

Heck, Grant Morrison themself took the piss on that idea with rock of ages since without Bruce Wayne, Batman is unmotivated to fight crime.

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.

Mark Waid had an arc where the JLA was split into civilians and heroes where Bruce Wayne experiences rage at his parents' death for which he has no outlet, which Batman normally provided.

The Protomen enhanced my life.

“They both are the mask and the real him is some what of combination of the two.” I like the take that you see the real him when he’s sitting in the Batcave talking to his allies.

I do think the public face of Bruce Wayne being a mask can be traced back further than Miller — the spoiled playboy bit and the strong tendency to instrumentalise his activities as Wayne to support what he needs as Batman both lean that way.

The public Bruce Wayne was a mask since the Kane and Finger stories. That was a guy who would tell Gordon "I don't like thinking! It's too much work!"

When Golden Age Bruce was himself (which only was when around Alfred and Robin, and then Superman) he pretty much acted like Batman. It just happened to be that Batman back then was far less obsessed and more relaxed.

Superman being the mask only comes about if Clark Kent is less of a facade.

And so which identity Lois prefers really depends on which you consider his true self.

First time I saw that picture I thought it was from the DCEU.

You'd think they'd want to visually differentiate the suit in some way.

The dirt and battle damage makes it look darker than I think it's supposed to. This is a weird promo image, because it makes the suit look worse than I think it actually is.

This is a stupid question probably, but is that Jamie Dornan? It looks a bit like him. If so, it would have been funny if he met the Robert Pattinson Batman, since their breakout but also most infamous roles derive from the same character (Edward from Twilight).

Ngl Solaris would be an amazing choice. I read DC One Million and he was a pretty great villain

I will say I wasn't a fan of the Man of Steel suit at first because it had a chainmail/leather texture in early images and I'm not a fan of any armored Superman designs in general, but it grew on me from a fantastic suit introduction and visual symmetry with other Kryptonian designs.

There isn't much to take from the image other than the Kingdom Come style S shield, though not a fan of the higher collar. The New 52 design would have been pretty good if it didnt have that.

Do you not know that in the service one must always choose the lesser of two weevils!
