I was just thinking about how I would solve this problem and the solutions I have are

1) Have the hyenas in background but don't have extensive scenes with them

2) Use an animatronic animal in the place of a CGI or live action,the latter is safer

3)Drop the hyenas entirely

Or, get this, we have one hyena done with CGI.

Which ate their entire CGI budget!

A real hyena is not a pet. It's the same reason why you don't ride on a zebra.

It's why they used a dog as a stand-in and then CGI that dog into a Hyena.

It's also why I suspect that Christopher Nolan had the Joker use dogs rather than hyenas in TDK even though hyenas would be more fitting for the Joker to use.

Weren’t those dogs from a gangster during the pile of burning money scene?

The dog is a bit of an Animal Motif for Joker in TDK. He compares himself to a "dog chasing cars.

Pretty much: it a why of him describing himself a sort of instint animal that just what it does.

And he also sticks his head out the window like a dog after his jail break.

Is also said to the guy after they call him a freak "let see how a hungry dog obey you" he see himself as one.

The Hyena fits the Joker much better than dogs. Hyenas laugh and you can't really tame them to do what you want, even if they look like dogs.

And while yes, TDK Joker's Animal Motif is Dog, I feel it was change to accommodate the realism of Nolanverse and since Nolan isn't going to be spending money on CGI for hyenas, dogs are the next best thing.

If you want to get really technical, the closest living relatives to modern hyenas are mongooses, since they're both in the superfamily Herpestodiea.

So is DCEU still a thing? I'm planning to watch Birds of Prey, is it still part of it?

Yes and no, is part of the same universe but it seen DC have not plan of super conecting movies like marvel.

Harley Quinn is not the same as the one in Suicide Squad, I hope?

Same Harley, but she’s handled much better than Suicide Squad did.

ehhh is still by the same actress and kinda the same look but her stuff with joker seen diferent, so there is a weird thing there.

The same character only this time she doesn't like Joker instead of liking him.

So pretty much Harley as she always is.

Since she's the primary character she does a lot of Deadpool narrations & stuff.

Hmm, I might reconsider.

It's weird how suicide squad made money but left such a bad tatse in peoples mouths that's its scared them off from future dceu films.

SS is the most "funny" of the inicial movies, is a mess in every way but is entretaing and many of the critic against DCCU was that they were uber grim and edgy and not entretaing.

My family and I got bored off it after like half an hour and changed the channel when it was on.

Interestingly enough Joker appears to be getting a new partner/girlfriend in the comics, Punchline to replace Harley since she's been going straight for a while now. They've even went as far as saying that she is genuinely evil to deter any possibility of redemption.

Ya know I can't help but somewhat snicker at the idea that she winds up being a far better partner than Harley ever was & this becomes public knowledge in Gotham with various villains gossiping of how Joker appears to be having more fun than he ever has before.

Jesus do I hope SS 2 fares better.

That is...intersting, one idea I always have is "what if Harley really was as evil as the joker but he hold her back?" specially because I always feel DC doge some implication of her being a henchman for him.
