Reorganisation of Video Games of the Decade pages

Video Games of the 2010s is getting way too long. It has at least 2500 lines and there's still half a year left. We will obviously want to split it to Video Games of 2010–2014 and Video Games Of The 20152019 (it will be custom titled to have either a hyphen, an emdash or endash, I don't know these new dashes and how you people call them). That said, it seems to me that one reason why these pages are so long is because each entry has a year in parentheses^note like (2012)which adds at least 7 characters to each line, and there's 27 or so folders

I have made an effort to sort Video Games of the Decade pages in a way that Films of the Decade pages do, see Films of the 1980s. It has 13 folders, one for franchises of the decade, one for each year, and two for other stuff. Since these pages have video games only, 11 folders would be enough. Then we would have each game sorted by year so years in parentheses would be removed and folders would be reduced, saving on about 10000 chars. Plus, this would make splitting pages to things like Video Games Of The2010s Franchises, Video Games of 2010–2014 and Video Games of 2015–2019 more comfortable, as we'll need to do it anyway. I've started the following pages:

• Sandbox.Video Games Of The1990s Reorganisation (COMPLETE)
• Sandbox.Video Games Of The2000s Reorganisation (COMPLETE)
• Sandbox.Video Games Of The2010s Reorganisation (COMPLETE)

to show what I want to do. I'd like some feedback as I was previously ignored and help with migrating indexes. If this turns out to be controversial, move to Wiki Talk to discuss.

TL;DR: I think pages like Video Games of the 2000s should be organised more like Films of the 1980s to save space and help with eventual splits when they get too long. I'd like to know what people think and if they could help me. Note that if one of the pages does get too long before the reorganisation is done, I may ask to lock the page.

Looking at this, the Franchises folder on Sandbox.Video Games Of The2010s Reorganisation has about 700 pages and is confusing, and hardly seems helpful. I'll keep a copy of it in my personal documents in case it has to be brought back, but maybe it should just be one game in one year to compress data further.

Alright, Sandbox.Video Games Of The1980s Reorganisation is done. It's hardly as large as any of the other lists, but it's still a milestone. Plus, comparing it to Video Games of the 1980s shows it weighs 6 KB less and seems generally easier to read. One can wonder how well I'll be able to compress the other indexes.

Also, I'll probably add folders for years and certain letter combinations in the later lists - for example, I'm thinking about adding folders like "1990 A-M" and "1990 N-Z" to Sandbox.Video Games Of The1990s Reorganisation, though the folders may be different depending on size.

Sandbox.Video Games Of The1990s Reorganisation is done as well. It was certainly bigger than the 1980s list and it's still not as large as the rest, but I'd estimate I'm 40% done. Speaking of forties, it's also 40 KB smaller than Video Games of the 1990s. Compression and correcting bad entries (I've seen a 2000 game on it, for instance) does wonders. I haven't added those year and letter folders yet, but I'll do so eventually.

Finished Sandbox.Video Games Of The2000s Reorganisation too. I'd estimate I'm 70% done, and coincidentally enough again, the compression was so good that it weighs 70 KB less than Video Games of the 2000s. I may not even need to split these pages, though I may want to start a TLP for Early Video Games and Visual Novels of the 2000s someday. Sure, I will add year and letter folders someday, but even they don't weigh much, as evidenced by how adding them to Sandbox.Video Games Of The1990s Reorganisation only added 2 extra KB.

The only thing that's left is Sandbox.Video Games Of The2010s Reorganisation and as much as it pains me to say this, I'll remove all entries I've currently added to it. Yes, it took a lot of work, but I've found a more efficient way to add entries is to go by year rather than by letter, and with that page, I went by letter, which means continuing by year would be painful. It doesn't really matter though, as it's mostly I who worked on that sandbox and it should take six to seven days to complete it.

After pulling some overtime, Sandbox.Video Games Of The2010s Reorganisation is finished. In total, I've managed to compress it by almost 80 KB when compared to Video Games of the 2010s. I'll note all VGOTD discussion pages to not be shocked when I replace the pages with these new indexes tomorrow, though first I'll do some slight polishing with folders. Then the project will hopefully be over.
