Roleplay Namespace Cleanup and Maintenance

That's why I suggested a sticky with these articles. Throw it in their face more. But do so tactfully.

Right now, the issue is how we approach this. Can we agree it's worth trying to salvage the general namespace, at least? I absolutely do think by the end of it, we won't even have half the pages. And that's not counting YMMV/Moments either.

Yes, I do think the namespace can be salvaged as long as we, well, can figure out a good way to salvage it.

Isn’t that true of any work and its page, though? Especially if it’s obscure and/or long-running.

That said, I do agree that there’s an issue with roleplays that aren’t, or are no longer, publicly available. My first instinct would be to cut pages if their roleplay is deleted and literally unable to be accessed, though I’m not as sure on RP’s that do exist and are locked behind something like a subscription or invite.

If it's a subscription or an invite, then they absolutely exist. Issue is they're difficult to trope, and we shouldn't allow any YMMV or Moments for those to begin with.

If any are deleted, we could Darth Wiki them potentially. Wayback Machine stuff isn't that great. This might be more fruitful since the stuff isn't a reliable way to read 'em.

(Anyway, let's write up other proposals of how to deal with them. Maybe a crowner too).

Any thoughts on my previous ideas? Mostly to have them all collected. I can relist the rules/ideas I had via a bullet list. :)

Technically yes, technically no, since most other works are in formats that are easy to digest. Maybe you'll have to go an an Archive Binge, but it's all in one place and shouldn't take too long if you're invested. Most often, you'll just have to sit down and watch a movie, or pick up a book, or watch a TV season. With these roleplays, the process is far harder, involving giant forums with thousands of posts, spread out across a website. While one can get the content in both cases, picking up a DVD is far easier than diving into the depths of a forum.

I think we should list all ideas this forum has come up with, honestly, for the sake of full debate and awareness of the possibilities.

• Wholesale cutting of the namespace, with works moved to more fitting namespaces or cut.
• Treating them as unpublished works if the content isn't easily digestible by an outsider, including the removal of any and all subpages.
• Keeping any pages we can salvage, getting help from the roleplayers in the cleanup process and cutting what can't be saved.
• Cutting the ones that can't be verified or are difficult to verify and salvaging the rest.
• Denying roleplay pages YMMV and moments subpages, due to Auto-Erotic Troping.

Did I get them all?

If a roleplay can only be viewed by subscribers or requires an invitation, it's definitely not meant for public viewing and should qualify as an Unpublished Work at best. I'd be in favor of cutting all of those.

That sounds about right to me.

I'd put that in Unpublished specifically, yeah. We know it exists. We can't verify the contents, which is a problem in itself. That's close enough to literally being Unpublished and ten times easier on us to deal with.

Yeah, it seems to make more sense to move those works to Unpublished rather than cut them entirely.

Not if that DVD is expensive, or difficult to come by, or foreign, or only available digitally and region-/subscription-locked.

My point is that ‘the information is right there to digest but, in the case of some roleplays^* because there are some, such as on this very wiki, that are confined to a single, easy-to-navigate threadis tedious to access’ seems to run afoul of our notability policies, as Zuxtron said last page.

No, I do get your point. I'd say it's more like unpublished or unreleased works; they do exist, and can be troped, but the information isn't (often) reliable.

Okay, so there are a few problems we need to go over with the RP. Since you clarified in your PM that you're not, in fact, one of the roleplayers, I want to note that here for everyone's understanding.

The first issue is, the pages are stubs. There's no context on anything in the YMMV page, and while that page would be cut anyways if you were in the roleplay, here we can try and salvage it. The characters and main page don't have any tropes at all.

I was actually about to add the tropes into the main page and add in the characters along with the tropes associated with them when I had the time,since I'm currently rather busy at the moment in real life. Also,seeing what the discussion had mentioned,I take it that if I was one of the roleplayers in the thread then Beyond Infinite Crisis is instantly out then?

Not necessarily, we're just trying to crack down on the large amount of bad roleplay pages lately, and one of the problems is Auto-Erotic Troping. The YMMV page would be the one to get cut, due to the subjective tropes rule.

We really just wanted to talk with you to make sure the page would get properly completed, otherwise someone may have jumped the gun and cutlisted it. If you insist you'll be adding that information, then great! Just remember context- all tropes need them, especially with a work like this, where very few people have experienced it.

.....I'm still very much worried when I read the "not one of the roleplayers" part (because fyi,I AM one of the roleplayers there in that thread,going by the same name as I used here:Tamotsu). I actually wanted to do an unbiased TV Trope page of the RP itself until I just read that "Auto-Erotic Troping" is a thing.

Hmmm...well, we haven't yet come to any conclusions about how to handle YMMV pages, so it might be fine. Can you at least verify that these reactions are how the other players also feel?

Thing is, there's some arguments that YMMV pages can be kept on the assumption that the roleplayers are also the work's audience, and therefore have audience reactions. We're not gonna yank the page away from you, we just want to try and clean up some common issues.

The one regarding Danger 5's Colonel's death was indeed something which several members of the roleplay's Discord group (a notable amount of them never roleplayed in the thread or stopped entirely) had expressed sadness while some remained indifferent to the event.

And yeah...I do agree that since other roleplayers being technically audiences in the roleplay could be abused as a loophole to keep the YMMV page there,it does create a huge debate about this.

It probably doesn't help that Beyond Infinite Crisis actually have multiple different settings where each user could choose to roleplay one character in one place and another character in another,thus making it even uncertain if they may be involved in any part of an ongoing arc that is happening in the roleplay thread.

As in which other roleplayers? If you're referring to the ones from Beyond Infinite Crisis then I suppose I could try asking some of them if they don't mind sharing their thoughts here

Anyone, really. It's just that at the moment, this thread is about the roleplay pages, but you'd likely be the first real avid roleplayer we've had stop by. You can get other people to come if you want, but I mostly just want you yourself to stick around. If you want to, of course.
