Ever heard of the game Mafia/Werewolf? Well, here it finally is on TV Tropes, except it's also a forum game.

    open/close all folders

     The Rules

  1. The number of participants in each game, excluding the Host, is determined by the setup used.
  2. To join a game, simply post in this thread when signups are available. You'll be added to a list of participating players.
  3. Roles will be determined with a random generator and PM'd to players at game start.
  4. Dead players or players not participating may spectate the game at any time. However, they may not post in the thread.
  5. All living players can PM each other at any time over the course of the game.
  6. Rounds move every 24 (for Night phase) or 48 (for Day phase) hours. The round will move regardless if everybody has cast a vote at this point or not.

General Mechanics

  1. If you are Town-sided, the object of the game is to locate and lynch all Mafia-sided players.
  2. If you are Mafia-sided, the object of the game is to kill Town-sided players until the amount of Town-sided players is equal to or less than the amount of Mafia-sided players.
  3. For example; there are 2 Mafia-sided players in a game. The Town wins in this game if they eliminate the 2 Mafia-sided players. The Mafia win if there are only 2 Town-sided players left alive at any point.
  4. Third party-sided roles have unique win conditions.

  1. The game starts with Night 1.

  3. After all players have PM'd the Host or 24 hours are up (whichever comes first), an announcement is posted and Day 1 begins.
  4. At the start of Day 1, it will be announced which players have died. Reports and/or items will be PM'd to their owners.
  5. In this phase, players can freely talk among themselves in order to figure out who is the Mafia. A player may be lynched at the end of the day.
  6. The cycle continues until a winner is declared.

     The Roles

Villager

  • No special abilities.
  • Town-sided

Mafia

  • Kills 1 player every night.
  • Mafia-sided

Doctor

  • Saves 1 player every night.
  • If the chosen player is set to die in the same night, the death is nullified and the player lives.
  • Town-sided

Cop

  • Investigates 1 player every night.
  • Receives a report in the following day phase showing player's alignment. (Town, Mafia, or Third Party)
  • Only the Cop can see this report, as it is PM'd by the Host.
  • Town-sided

Hooker

  • Hooks 1 player every night.
  • Chosen player is roleblocked. For example, if the Hooker hooks the Cop when they choose to investigate a player, the Cop will not receive the report the next day.
  • Chosen player is not informed they are roleblocked.
  • Mafia-sided

Gunsmith

  • Gives 1 player a gun every night.
  • Chosen player receives gun the next day and can choose to shoot another player, killing them. (See Voting for more details on guns.)
  • Shooter’s identity will be revealed to all players when gun is shot.
  • Gun can only be shot once, after which it’s used up.
  • Town-sided

Arms Dealer

  • Gives 1 player a gun every night.
  • Chosen player receives gun the next day and can choose to shoot another player, killing them. (See Voting for more details on guns.)
  • Shooter’s identity has a 50% chance of being revealed to all players when gun is shot.
  • Gun can only be shot once, after which it’s used up.
  • Town-sided

Vigilante

  • Kills 1 player every night.
  • If they choose the same player to kill as the Mafia that night, the Vigilante dies.
  • If the Mafia chooses to kill the Vigilante, the Vigilante fails to kill their target.
  • Town-sided

Fool

  • Visits 1 player every night. This does nothing.
  • Wins when lynched.
  • Third party-sided

Miller

  • Role appears to be Villager to themself at the start of the game.
  • When investigated by the cop, will appear Mafia-sided.
  • When killed or lynched, will appear to be Miller.
  • Town-sided

Oracle

  • Visits 1 player every night. (Can choose themself.)
  • Upon death, role of last player visited will be revealed to all players.
  • Cannot be roleblocked.
  • Town-sided

Janitor

  • Cleans 1 player at night, once per game.
  • If cleaned player dies that night, only the Janitor will know their role.
  • Mafia-sided

Lawyer

  • Visits 1 Mafia-sided player every night.
  • Chosen player will appear Town-sided in Cop reports for that night.
  • Mafia-sided

Bulletproof

  • Can survive one kill attempt.
  • Is not immune to lynching, however.
  • Town-sided

Stalker

  • Visits 1 player at night and receives report the next day, similar to the Cop.
  • Player's role is revealed in the report instead of their alignment (eg when investigating a Villager, the Stalker will be told the player is a Villager specifically instead of just "Town-sided", as a Cop would when investigating the same person).
  • Mafia-sided

President

  • All Town-sided players will be informed of their identity at the start of the game.
  • The Mafia autowins upon their death.
  • Town-sided

  • Doesn't blow up when lynched or killed by the Mafia’s nightkill.
  • Town-sided

Sniper

  • Carries 1 gun that can be shot during the day.

  • Mafia-sided

Spy

  • Can send messages to a specified role of their choice, at any time during the day.
  • PM the Host with your message and the role name to use this ability (eg tell the Sniper "I'm unfortunatezorua" / tell the President "hi there" / etc).
  • Mafia-sided

Mason

  • Recruits 1 player every night.
  • If recruiting a Town-sided role, chosen player will be converted into a Mason.
  • If recruiting a Mafia-sided role, all visiting Masons die unless roleblocked.
  • Town-sided

Traitor

  • Does not participate in Mafia meetings. Mafia is not informed of their identity.
  • Appears to be Town-sided in Cop reports.
  • Does not count towards the Mafia’s majority win condition.
  • Wins with the Mafia.
  • Third party-sided

Innocent Child

  • Can reveal their role as the Innocent Child to all players, any time during the day at will, by PM’ing the Host accordingly.
  • If killed before revealing their role, appears as Villager.
  • If given an item, will choke on it and die.
  • Town-sided

Werewolf

  • Attempts to guess the role of 1 player every night.
  • If correct, the Werewolf devours that player and becomes immune to any daykills and lynching for 1 day.
  • If incorrect, the Werewolf’s identity will be revealed to all players.
  • Wins when Werewolves outnumber all other parties.
  • Third party-sided

Thief

  • Steals a random item from 1 player every night.
  • Does not participate in Mafia meetings. Mafia is not informed of their identity.
  • Mafia-sided

Agent

  • Can send messages to any non-Town-sided role of their choice, at any time during the day.
  • PM the Host with your message and the role name to use this ability (eg tell the Fool "I'm unfortunatezorua" / tell the Mafia "hi there" / etc).
  • Town-sided

Jailer

  • If no one is lynched at the end of the day, can choose to target a player as a night action. Targeted player will be visited by the Jailer and put into prison.
  • Targeted player will be immune to other players’ night actions for the duration of that night.
  • Targeted player cannot use any night actions.
  • The Jailer and the targeted player may communicate messages during this night through the Host.
  • The Jailer’s identity is not revealed to the targeted player.
  • The Jailer can choose to kill the targeted player upon the end of the night. This can be roleblocked.
  • Town-sided

Killer

  • Must kill 1 player every night. Cannot abstain from night action.
  • Wins if alive alone or among the final 2 players.
  • Third party-sided

Insane Cop

  • Appears as normal Cop to self.
  • Investigates 1 player every night.
  • Receives a report in the following day phase showing player's alignment.
  • Reported alignment will be displayed as the opposite of what the target’s is; investigated Town-sided players will appear to be Mafia-sided, and vice-versa.
  • Only the Cop can see this report, as it is PM'd by the Host.
  • Town-sided

Paranoid Cop

  • Appears as normal Cop to self.
  • Investigates 1 player every night.
  • Receives a report in the following day phase showing player's alignment. Reported alignment will always be Mafia.
  • Only the cop can see this report, as it is PM'd by the Host.
  • Town-sided

Naive Cop

  • Appears as normal Cop to self.
  • Investigates 1 player every night.
  • Receives a report in the following day phase showing player's alignment. Reported alignment will always be Town.
  • Only the cop can see this report, as it is PM'd by the Host.
  • Town-sided

     Voting
  1. The player with the most votes at the end of the day phase dies.
  2. You can vote for yourself when lynching.
  3. You cannot vote for yourself when using an action.
  4. However, you can abstain from using your action by voting for no one.

Lynching

  1. To cast a vote during a day phase, simply post vote (player name) in the thread. Votes will be tallied by the Host regularly as you do this.
  2. You can abstain from voting by posting vote no one.
  3. Once all players have voted in a day phase and a majority has been reached, the round moves. Otherwise, it'll take until the time limit for the game to continue.

Others

  1. To vote to kill during a night phase as Mafia, simply PM the Host with the player name. If your vote conflicts with the other Mafia, you will be informed. If the time runs out and nobody has majority, no one will be killed the next day.
  2. To use other actions during a night phase, simply PM the Host with the player name.
  3. To shoot someone during a day phase, simply PM the Host with the player name. The shot will take effect immediately. You cannot shoot people at night.

     Tips And Strategies (WIP)

Classic Mafia & GNH

  1. If you're the Cop, try to out your reports as soon as possible.
  2. If you're the Mafia, you can pretend to be the Cop and out a fake report.
  3. If you're the Doctor, keep under wraps. The Mafia will usually target you if you out your role.
  4. You can let everyone vote for themselves in the Day phase execpt the Cop (or GS if the Cop is dead). The Cop can then "hammer", as in vote for the person they think is Mafia, effectively killing them as they will then have 2 votes for them instead of everbody else's 1.
  5. Try to hook the player you think is the Cop as the Hooker.

With that said, let's begin the signups for the first Classic Mafia game.

Anyway, signups are closed now, let the games begin...

Night 1 has begun!

Roles will be PM'd shortly. Those with abilities, reply to unfortunatezorua to use them. Round deadline is June 18, 2:40 AM GMT. You cannot post during this phase.
