[up] Nope, it's just Seteth/Ingrid A+ that's like this (plus Rhea's S on Silver Snow, though that one shows up on the menu no matter the house). Any other limits are just due to unit availability, with the entire support chains affected.

It's interesting that they could add route-specific support ranks (and make certain pairings only possible on specific routes even if they can support on all of them), but did it all of two times.

Deep in Garreg Mach, Byleth sat upon a throne
While Seteth he wondered, what the fuck's going on
When the princess arrived, with her troops in disguise
And the armor she wore now, revealed all her lies
Right there behind her, giant Beasts wailed and roared
And on her left side Metodey, who violence adored
At last she declared, look of triumph in her eye
"I'm the Flame Emperor, now you're all gonna die!"

The night Edel went crazy
The night Ms. El went insane
Realized she'd been getting a raw deal
Something finally must have snapped in her brain

Well, the school is in trouble, she decided to storm it
To look at the carnage, it will cause you to vomit
See he cuts up her foes, with his terrible might
The ace in her sleeve, it's her loyal Death Knight
Seteth sees in wisdom, he now must flee somewhere
Or Jeritza's new sports ball, will wear Seteth's green hair.
Even poor little Flayn now, better run as she's told
It's not really child murder, if she's a thousand years old!

The night Edel went crazy
The night The Emperor made war
The school is reduced to one class now
Teaching stench of burning gore

There's the albino mages rampaging around
Their dark spells are led by Lord Arundel
And their monsters are circling around in the sky
And there's fireballs flying, the body count's rising
And everyone's dying to know, oh Edel, why?
My my my my my my
Why would you team up with that guy?

She hates all the nobles, the church and the Crests
Turns to Leicester and Faerghus, to begin her conquest
And Byleth is gone now, disappeared without trace
You could call it a victory, for the Agarthan race
Dimitri's unraveling, old mental scars back
The blue King of Lions, goes to counterattack
And they say Mr. Claude, he is balancing tight
As Acheron and Gloucester, for the empire would fight!

All thanks to - the night Edel went crazy
The night when Edelgard flipped
Got defiled in some underground lab cell
Sounds to me like she was tired of noble shit

Wo-oh, the night Edel went crazy
The night Ms. EL went insane
Realized she's been getting a raw deal
Something finally must have snapped in her brain
Wo-oh, something finally must have snapped in her brain
Tell ya, something finally must have snapped...in her brain

I want to return to the idea of switching the Role of the Lords and I came with an cool idea for Dimitri taking the place of the child of two worlds:

Fanfic profile (I claim the idea of It, don't you dare stealing it!):

Name: Dimitri Alexandre Blayddid/Havi

Country of Birth: Svreng

Backstory(part 1): During the Northern Campaigns of King Lambert from Fearghus with his general Gillbert and two of his friends, Rodrigue of House Fraldarius and the Margrave Gautier, they sought to quell the invasions of the Svreng-Vikings, which was sanctioned by the Church. For years they fought fiercely against the Svreng Vikings and their powerful warriors, but due to the supply shortage Lambert withdrew, but not before impregnating a Woman named Sigrid, who happens to be the Sister of an Local Jarl named Sigurd. She got an Child out of this affair and named him Havi. Havi was born with the Crest of Blayddid, which made him strong and powerful enough to life in Svreng, an harsh environment due to the many Clans fighting each other and the need for more resources. Havi was the subject of much discrimation due to his Fearghus blood, which made him insecure of himself and wish to live in Fearghus,in hopes of living free from the hatred of the people around him. Despite all the abuse he got from his Uncle and the bullying of the kids in his time in Svreng, he was still a good person at heart, though he has an very tough attitude at times and is still very generous and has an neck for cunningness, which is rivaled only by his aggressiveness and risk-taking persona. When he was still training in the cold he saw 2 men accompanied with Knights bearing the Emblem of the Kingdom. 2 of these men were Red-headed, with one having an Ponytail and the look of an Elderly Man and the other has Dark-blue Hair. They came to Havi's town to meet with Havi's Grandfather Sigurd, who was furious seeing these men. As it turns out the man with Darkblue Hair is called Rodrigue and the Red haired Man is called Gillbert. Rodrigue is an old friend of Lambert, who came with Gillbert from the Kingdom to bring the news that Lambert died during an coup and after finding an letter of him, he found out that Havi is the child of Lambert and thus the heir to the Kingdom. Sigurd, who hated Lambert, due to his affair with his Sister, accepted the offer as a way to get rid of his Nephew and accepted the offer, much to Sigrid's dismay.Havi, who saw an opportunity to leave his homeland and go to Fearghus prepared to go, but not before his Mother tried to take him to an different clan to start anew, as Fódlan is an place that doesn't take kindly to outsiders and more so than Svreng and mentioned the Punishment of Duscur as example. Rodrigue and Gillbert appear, the former assurimg her that he will keep Havi's identify secret and even give him an false backstory and a new name to integrate into Fearghus Nobility...Dimitri. Gillbert also vowed to Protect the young Prince with his life and that Sigrid can kill him, if he were to fail in his Mission. After much discussion and Havi begging to go to the Kingdom,Sigrid agreed. Before Havi left, he hugged his Mom and wants to make sure that there will be no hatred between Svreng and Fearghus when he becomes King and wants to bring peace between the two countries. His Mom accepted his wish and gave him an rune with his old name in it and to remember that the future belongs to those who life and as long as he lives, the future is his. Now leaving his true Identity as He in the dark, Dimitri starts his journey to Fearghus to life his new life as Prince of the Holy Kingdom.

Part 1 ends, because the next part is too long for an single comment.

Backstory(Part 2):The first days of Dimitri's life in Fearghus proved to be difficult due to the differences in their Cultures as he had to get used to a more sophisticated lifestyle and the Codes of Chilvary he sees as idiotic as he prefers to play cunningly and aggressive. He also dislikes the lack of Cold and often misses the Meatloafes of his old life in Svreng. But after some time, he managed to not fall so much off, despite getting many suspicions from some people of the Court, which annoyed and hurt him greatly. His 2 biggest problems are his Uncle Rufus, who despises him due to ruining his Reign and the only thing protecting Dimitri is Rufus's Ignorance of Dimitri's heritage. The other is the Xenophobic attitude of the people to Fódlan, who often stereotype the outside world as being inferior to them and being ruled Wicked Gods Nemesis opposed in the myths. Dimitri's first impulse was to correct these people, like for instance that Svreng is not ruled by dumb brutes and is in fact a place with multifaceted-people with poets, scholars, mages, fishers and farmers as well as many great artists when he showed them his time, only to called an idiot for it. This destroyed Dimitri's spirit As he had to see how vile the people in Fódlan can be. His despair and frustration culminated with the treatment of people of Duscur, who were enemies of his Clan once, but now are a people without an land, stolen by Fearghus due to Conspiracy theories. He saw first hand how an Man of Duscur is beaten down in the street and spit, while being cursed as an ugly swarty beast , which made Dimitri so furious that he yelled at these people and protected him from the masses. This won the gratitude and kindness of the Man of Duscur, who calls himself Dedue, who had lost his family to Fearghus and is grateful to see someone from Fearghus respected him. Dimitri asked Gillbert to make him an Knight, which he denied, because Dedue is not of Noble blood, but offers an solution in the form of an Loophole by giving him to an band of Mercenaries who were friendly towards House Dominic and that he could enter the Garreg March Officers academy to become a Knight, as an certification from this school will give him the right to become a Knight. Dedue Agreed and was shortly seperated from Dimitri. They meet 2 years later during an rebellion by the Western lords of Fearghus, where the two defeated the rebels with ease, much to the shock of Felix, the Son of Rodrigue who now realized how Brutal Dimitri could be. This was not the beginning of their feud as Felix already disliked Prince's aggressive combat style in training as he found him too aggressive anf reckless for an Prince of Fearghus and was overall not taken with the extra attention he recieved from his father. After this battle, Dedue has proven himself as good enough of a fighter, so he could go to the Academy with Dimitri, who always wanted to see the Garreg March Monastery, as this was the place, where his father and his friends bounded in there. Now Dimitri goes to a schoollife as leader of the Blue Lion House to become the King of Fearghus and find a way to end the Xenophobia in Fódlan and to end the conflict with Them and and Svreng as well as with Duscur.

Personality: Dimitri or rather Havi is a very straightforward individual, blunt to the core and very upset at the slightest of Injustice, which stems fr his long life of Discrimation and bullying, which let to some of his Classmate calling him the Lion King, as this was how Loog was said to be like in his lifetime. He has an nice extruder and is very kind and overly generous with people, which many found to be overbearing, but honourable. However he has an much darker side, which is shown in combat in which he can lose himself in battle and break his opponents down and his reckless behavior can scare even the most brave of foes with ease, however he is not an dumb Brute and is very very cunning in battle and can very much trick his opponents as he once played dead just to get an Knight to lower his guard and beat him down or how he bathes in Boar dung just to make it impossible to the opponent to concentrate while having to smell his awful odor, which causes Felix to call him a Boar. His biggest flaw is his fears of being caught for his Svreng heritage, which makes his greatest fear that if everyone knew where he truly came from, he would have to leave and be friendless as they would hate him for being not of "Pure-Blood". Thus he struggles with his dream of peace an dthe fear if losing a home due to his secret, which makes him not able to truly bound on a deeper level with others, especially with Dedue, whom's Kind also hates Svreng. Still, he is an honourable person and much closer to the ideals of Knighthood than he realizes and will make good use of his talents and knowledge of the Academy to become the King of Justice he always dreamt to become.

Relationships:

Dimitri & Dedue:

Due to Dimitri's kind act of saving Dedue from getting beaten up, he developed a huge sense of gratitude and even wish to repay his Debt to him, much to Dimitri's dismay as he did that without any reward. They are akin to brothers and due to them sharing an deep hatred towards Fearghus's bigotry, they often talk very critically of the Kingdom and it's faith which he doesn't share, because he believes in the Gods of Svreng, who are feasting and fighting in a different realm called Asenheim until the end times where the Flames of the World will destroy the Cosmos and the Gods themselves. Despite them being friends, Dimitri never told Dedue his true name or heritage and fears that if he were to know it, their friendship ends, because Dedue does throw jabs at Svreng from time to time, which Dimitri considered mild compared to the other class mates. If they friendship can survive this secret has yet to be seen.

Dimitri & Felix:

They have an rivalry due to their love for battle and from Felix's side, the affection of his father, because he often shelters the Prince and takes very often his side in the argument. This causes him to envy Dimitri on this front as well as in terms of fighting, because of Dimitri's vastly superior fighting style and prowess. He also dislikes his brutality regarding His enemies and caught him beating an Rebel into a bloody pulp with his bare hands and even biting the ear away of one of his enemies, hence why amongst other things he calls him Boar. However he feels that he has an sense of Duty to him as he is his future King and he wants his father to be proud in spite of their strangled relationship due to the death of Glenn, whom he sometimes compares to Dimitri due to their similar personalities.

Dimitri & Sylvain:

Sylvain is for Dimitri a more pleasing comrade to talk with than Felix and they do share an desire to change the relationships with the people of Svreng, but Dimitri feels he does it in part to spite his father due to his abusive behavior and his fetish for Svreng Women, whom he called strong and beautiful. On the topic Women, Dimitri has to generally shut him down, due to his constant flirting having caused a lot of trouble in the Academy as well as the more obvious fact that it is mean and unfair towards women. Still, they can at least talk with one another.

Dimitri & Ingrid:

Ingrid tends to be very judgmental of Dimitri's wild style of fighting and finds him very British and not Noble enough to be King, which is why she often corrects his behaviour. Still she considers him more pleasing than Sylvain as a comrade as he is more caring towards others than either Felix or Sylvain. However Dimitri does however take issue with her bigotry and often condemns her for her Xenophobic attitudes, which she doesn't like. Overall an rocky relationship.

Dimitri & Annette:

Due to her Father spending more time with Dimitri than with her, she has developed jealousy towards him and Initially doesn't want to do with him anything. But when he accidentally stumbled upon him after and her Father was near of them, he came to help her and gave her the attention she desires of him. Thus she changed her attitude toward the Prince and tries to get to him close in hopes of Connecting with her father, but after some time grows to like Dimitri as they both shared their love for Meatloafes and his liking in her songs. While built on a self-motivated goal of getting close to her Father, their relationship became an sincere one.

Dimitri & Mercedes:

With Mercedes, Dimitri saw an Chance to understand the faith of Seiros and often talks to her about such stuff. They often have Theological discussions, where they learn about each other believes much more and gain an respect for the other's faith, though Dimitri conceals his Svrengian heritage, which Mercedes has not figured out yet.

Dimitri & Ashe:

Dimitri is often very kind towards him as he sees Ashe as someone who is a bit too naive for the world and often wants to show him the truth of how cruel the world can be and how Chilvary is not effective in dealing with this, much to his disappointment. After Lonato's death, Dimitri tried very often to help Ashe get over it by telling him that he can at least be happy having a father by his side, which is something he never had. They relationship is despite their contrasting Nature mirroring that of two Brothers, though not as close as Dimitri's with Dedue.

(Authors Note: Much of it was based on my version of the GD/VW storyline, so this incorporates a lot of ideas I had long before I wrote this and IMO this is what Dimitri should have been, instead of attempting to be Kratos-Bayek.)

I think the biggest problem with this game's worldbuilding is how it on the one hand wants to show Fodlan as a place filled with inequality, racism and self-centered rulers, but on the other hand the main cast that's almost exclusively from the church and the upper class needs to likable and sympathetic, leading to a massive mismatch between what we're told about the world and what we're actually shown. See for example how one of the very first things we learn is that the nobility gets triggered by merely having to sleep on the same floor as commoners, yet nobody except for Lorenz actually seems to look down on commoners. Ferdinand, who's the second biggest snob after Lorenz, even has a line early on about treating everyone the same regardless of birth. Or how church officials not caring about Crests is pointed out as unusual even though that's every single named church member in the game. Or how the Abyssians are said to be despised by most of the church except for Rhea and Aelfric, I.E. the only two church members who even mention Abyss outside of nameless NPC's. Or how Count Varley thinks that making Bernadetta sit still and be silent all day will make her an ideal wife even though none of the young male nobles that would be her actual husband candidates seem to want a wife like that.

The most egregious example is probably the Kingdom of Faerghus. Faerghus is a heavily militaristic country where children are taught to fight before they are taught to read, kids routinely get disowned from their family for not being born with the right magic blood to wield the right magic superweapons, the Church of Seiros is at its most violent and fanatical, and an actual genocide was carried out by several nobles with broad support from the people just a couple of years ago, but it's also the designated good guy kingdom. Adrestia and Leicester at least gives us brief appearances by Aegir and Acheron but Faerghus doesn't even give us that. This leads to all kinds of weirdness like how Seteth claims that Miklan's situation is commonplace among Faerghus nobility, yet not a single Faerghus character is ever seen endorsing such practices, with the closest being Dimitri going "both sides" on the issue. Or how even though several noble families participated in the Punishment of Duscur and the Blue Lions are full of Faerghus nobility we don't see a single one of the perpetrators outside of Agarthan impostors, or even any of their family members. Usually the game will try to solve these issues by giving the good character an Asshole Offscreen Dad (TM), but in this case we don't even get that. Or how none of the many religious characters from Faerghus besdies Lonato seem to identify or agree with the Faerghus branch of the Church of Seiros. This last example is probably the weirdest of them all in that not even the local Asshole Offscreen Nobles or Asshole Nameless NPC's seem to care about this one. The Western Church assassinating the Archibishop and robbing the Tomb of Seiros, and the Archbishop declaring a war to eliminate them, should lead to a massive crisis across all of Faerghus, but we're never told that this is the case. The reasoning behind covering up Christophe's crime was that the mere knowledge of someone trying to assassinate the Archbishop would lead to chaos and mass panic, but somehow when it comes out that the Church itself tried to do it we're given no indication that anyone in Faerghus even gives a fuck.

It was specifically it would cause more mass panic and chaos as it happened around the Tragedy of Duscur.

The tragedy, Christophes attempted assassination and execution, and Catherine joining the Knights happened in the same year, and at the time the Central Church was one of the few things preserving stability in Faerghus.

The game violates the Show, Don't Tell rule repeatedly due to its limitations, but it also seems to be deliberately setting things up in a manner that points towards Fodlan's issues potentially heading towards a resolution once the new generation takes over. (And then El decides to speed things up on her side.) Leicester in particular is pretty much presented as a chaotic mess, yet the Golden Deer as a whole are the most stable bunch of the three. And because the focus is on the playable cast, you don't get to see much of the stuff that's happening around.

Miklan wasn't disowned by his family for not having a Crest. He wasn't picked as the heir, but that basically meant he grew up in the same position as Hilda or Punchy Guy Whose Name I Can't Remember. He was still in Fodlan's 1%. And I don't get how people can decry the idea of picking an heir for having a Crest as being arbitrary, and then say Miklan was wronged for not being chosen as heir for being oldest. Maybe it's because Edelgard, in her efforts to shove everybody into one of the predetermined roles in her passion play, tried to play up how he was supposedly wronged.

Ohterwise, I actually do kind of agree with Drup here. I'd also add that most of the named characters associated with the Church aren't even religious.

I was going to make a distinction between religiosity and devoutness, but this is an interesting point.

  • Rhea: Keeps secrets but genuinely believes in Sothis and that She will return one day.
  • Seteth: Knows about the secrets Rhea keeps but supports her anyway. He also believes in Sothis, but isn't sure about Her eventual return.
  • Flayn: Unclear.
  • Catherine: While her loyalty is to Rhea personally rather than the church, she is still a devout believer.
  • Shamir: Unbeliever.
  • Alois: Appears to be a sincere believer.
  • Cyril: Unbeliever.
  • Manuela: Devout believer.
  • Hanneman: Doesn't really come up.
  • Aelfric: Appears to be a believer.
  • Jeralt: Actively avoids the church, but his problems are more with Rhea than the institution.
  • Byleth: Wild card.

There's also Gilbert, Tomas, and Jeritza, the first of which is very devout, the second of which seems to have been very devout, and the third of which, well, not so much. It seems the most nonfollowers are mainly outsiders rescued by Rhea (Shamir and Cyril) or people specifically hired as instructors in the Officer's Academy (Byleth, Jeritza, Hanneman and Manuela, who seems to follow the Minstry of Religious Affairs more than the Church of Seiros)

Manuela is a true believer. She holds onto her faith even if she sides with Edelgard, and believes in Sothis, not the Church. She and Edelgard even have a conversation about this.

I assume this would probably even out if you factor in all the nameless characters who aren't important enough to see. The average church member, or nearby citizen, is probably more devout than some of the major characters. Recruiting knights and teachers by apptitude over religiousity isn't a bad move, provided they're all loyal enough.

But if it's too destabilizing to even mention during a time of crisis then surely an even bigger scandal of the same kind should merit at least some kind of noitceable response.

Miklan wasn't disowned by his family for not having a Crest.

That's true, but the guy who tells us that Miklan's situation is normal in Faerghus is Seteth, who doesn't know Miklan's full backstory and does believe that Miklan was disowned for simply not having a Crest.

[up] Destroying an apostate Church is not really an Earth-shattering revelation, the whole truth of the Crests and the Herorelics is God-Shattering(pun intended)

Miklan was DISINHERITED for his lack of crests, he was later disowned, presumably because of his attempts to murder Sylvain. Rufus was also Disinherited, but not disowned. He became the King regent after his younger brother died and would abdicated the throne to Dimitri after he would be ready to take it, but Cornelia ruined it.
