I remember reading a book with a Hutt that actually liked to go out and personally hunt down shit in a full suit of body armor and stuff. The other characters were pretty baffled that he was even a thing that existed, and the resident Jedi of the protagonist crew eventually wound up dropping him down a ravine or something after he got framed for the death of a particularly influential crime lord.

Incidentally, said crime lord's youngest son (these guys are also Hutts, natch) was, in fact, slightly Force-sensitive. The book's plot kicked off specifically because the aforementioned Jedi's apprentice made friends with the Hutt, taught him a bit about the Force in an attempt to one-up his master, eventually became a liability, and got drugged into accidentally killing himself by throwing himself out a window. Naturally, an investigation followed.

but HOW?

The thing is we all the major variations basically revolve around the fact that the Empire just packed up and left and the GCW didn't run for a good 2 decades

Basically

Since the Empire effectively collapses in a year after Endor instead of splintering into a few dozen factions that the NR has to pick apart, The Characters are more tied up with fighting the War then getting on with their lives

Luke never learns as many lessons about the Dark side without Reborn Palpy or Joruus around

Han and Leia pretty much get busy a year after Endor instead of 8-9 years later resulting in their 30 year old teenager over Jacen and Jaina

and the Imperial Remnant basically barrels toward its own self destruction as it becomes the Idiocracy that is the FO instead of the Eventually stable Pentastar Alignment/ Second Imperium/ Fel Empire

They seriously should have played Dawson Casting and had Kylo be in his 20s.

[up][up] Adam Driver really did look 20s as Kylo Ren. And it's a neat parallel to Anakin.

There is a Vague Age at play here, assuming the real world timeline was perfectly aligned at 32 years between ROTJ and TFA Kylo would be 30-31 at best. Luke himself doesn't look significantly younger in the TLJ flashbacks, so it's unlikely it happened an exceptionally long time ago. Rey herself doesn't have any specific markers on how old she is supposed to be, while Luke was specifically portrayed as a kid under the care of Owen and Beru in ANH, Rey could have easily been the same age as Daisy Ridley at 23 since Rey was both physically mature and living independently while not quite world weary as one would be if older. So it's more than possible that Kylo was 26 and Rey was 21. I know there are official timelines out there but those are often developed independently of the actual production.

You know, I like Kylo...

But its kinda sad the character who's likely gonna go down as the best character in the ST, which was supposed to diversify things, is the straight white guy.

Ya know I would be less harsh on Rey if she wasn't human.

Like if she didn't look like a plain white woman & had a decent alien look I'd be more forgiving of her flaws.

I really don't think about diversity much, but all the POC characters were not treated well.

But at least Lando is happy.

Also that frigging Jedi Hutt is pure narm charm. It's silly, but it kinda works.

Like no offense to Ridley but they really couldn't have picked a duller look for Rey.

I feel like we should be long past vanilla protagonists at this point.

It's kinda the female equivalent of the generic action hero guy trope.

Didn't JJ state that he wanted Rey's TFA outfit to be her iconic outfit & so refused to give her any new clothing?

Why it's so bland.

Rotj luke's outfit which is the most different also looks perhaps the best of his outfits in contrast compared to his ANH outfit

Luke's varied outfits also helped signify his growth & development throughout the films. The extremely striking black of his Return outfit says everything about the point the character is at.

Meanwhile Rey in Rise is wearing the exact same outfit she wore in TFA with only minor cosmetic changes thus stunting the visualization of her growth.

Hell Star Wars in general uses wardrobe changes to signify growth & development so Rey not getting a new outfit wound up breaking a rule.

The outfit of the third movie is the one that usually sticks. Like we all think of Anakin's ROTS and Luke's ROTJ outfit.

Poor Rey.

I seriously doubt that Kylo Ren is going to "go down as the best character in the ST". I consider him very much one of the worst things about it.

Oh that is certainly the opinion of a good deal of people here, but look around the internet. Aside from ST fans loving him, I've seen a fair amount of people who hate the ST refer to him as the equivalent of Ewan Mc Gregors obi wan.

And, well, Reys outfit is reflective of her character arc and growth.

That being that she went back to how she used to be cause JJ liked her better that way

In fairness the character wouldn't have a shred of likability if it wasn't for Driver acting the hell out of that role.

Hell its why he comes off as even worse in the comic. No Driver cushioning the poor writing.

I'm gonna be honest... I don't even like Driver's performance that much. Mainly because for half of Kylo Ren's screentime, Driver isn't allowed to give a performance. He's tethered by having to wear a mask with a voice filter, and he simply does not have the James Earl Jones-level gravitas to overcome that acting handicap. The fact that they got rid of the mask is one reason why I find Ren way more tolerable in The Last Jedi than in the other two movies. Driver's charisma is at least allowed to shine through there.

That, and it's the only movie of the three where Ren's actions are at least tethered to a comprehensible human motivation: Luke tried to kill him, therefore he hates Luke. Fine. Simple and sensical enough. I mean, it's still not enough to make sense of his character, but it's at least a start. Explaining why he abandoned the side of good only tells half the story — you still have to make sense of why he joined people that require him to commit wanton murder and genoide. It's the same problem I had with Barris Offee in the Clone Wars cartoon — it's like, yeah, you've explained why you don't have faith in the Jedi, but it seems like a big leap from there to start committing acts of terrorism and advertising your newfound Evil by using red lightsabers.

[up][up]Lol Jannah of all people earned more then poe. A one off character earned more then one of the main protagonists.

That shows what a totally just their character he is
