Captain Marvel - Spoilers

Please don't tell me this means there are gonna be Carol x Goose shippers.

Please also tell me the Captain Marvel shipping fandom won't be chock-full of antis screeching about how shipping two adults is pedophilia^note For example, that shipping Carol and Maria is pedophilic or figuratively sister incest because they were childhood friends who met before puberty; this is an argument that already exists and is common for other ships such as Stucky, but I see it unlikely to actually be weaponized for this movie, as the real reason most people even care is for Ship-to-Ship Combat reasons and Carol/Maria doesn't have much competition.

That makes no sense.

But sadly I can see people complaining about that.

It doesn't, but that hasn't stopped shippers from using it anyway in many other fandoms unfortunately. Including the new She-Ra's.

I was about to make some comment about Catra spawning giant tentacles from her mouth and swallowing people and ancient artifacts whole but..oh, wait.

Pretty much the only ship I've seen so far is Carol x Maria. I figured Carol x Fury would be more popular myself from the previews. But now we have people talking about the possibility of Carol x Thor thanks to the Endgame teaser.

My favorite twitter semi-shippy headcanon though is definitely that Captain Marvel ran into Valkyrie at a intergalactic space bar.

There is a Carol x Yon-Rogg ship, but on A03 it's only got 37 fics while Carol x Maria is at 109.

Better yet, some people are doing fics where Thor sets up Carol with Valkyrie after he met her in Endgame.

I was thinking to myself that this is one of the few superhero films with no love interest. But then I realized that their actually was one right under my nose.

It's a lot like The Winter Soldier in that way. I've always said that more films could go without an overt romance subplot, and besides, people who are desperate enough for one can easily sub something else in its place.

I think Maria was her lost interest. They just didn’t come out and say it.

Carol and Maria is the closest there is in the movie to a romance and I'm quite fine with that.

Well, that and Fury / Goose.

That's an abusive relationship where Goose holds all the power, physically assaults Fury, and steals his things. We should not be normalizing this kind of relationship.

Yeah, Carol and Maria really feels like it was written as a more-than-just-friends relationship. Heck, Carol is practically Monica's second mum.

They are definitely meant to be family. I guess they just made it so some would see it as sisterly and some would see it as romantic.

Really it’s like every close friendship is seen as or possibly romantic.
