A masquerade ball seems a bit pointless for ponies who already look so unique and distinct that a mask really isn't going to hide their identity. Especially not a half mask.
Optimism is a duty.I'm speaking hypothetically.
My impression was you were proposing ANG be turned into a series to give G5 a better foundation. I assumed that meant turning the events of ANG into Season 1 of G5, making the events of MYM and TYT Season 2.
Did you mean something else?

Oh, right, I see.
Well, if the movie was a season, the basic premise of the movie could be the setting for season one, with Misty and Opaline having an overarching role within that setting. I'll try to come up with some ideas for it once I finish watching MYM.
Optimism is a duty. There's also this odd thing with half-hearted lessons on MYM. Like that last episode, where they went to some ball in Zephyr Heights, Sunny was suddenly freaking out over everyone having to dance in sync. This was not really set up properly (why is Sunny organizing a dance that far away? where did that "unity dance" thing even come from?), and also raises the question of why they apparently waited until hours before the dance to actually practice it (which they clearly haven't.
So it seems to be setting up a lesson about how not everything needs to be perfect all the time (which would kind of miss the point of having a dance number, of course, where the perfect choreography is the whole point of the thing), but then the dance starts... and everyone dances perfectly fine to the music anyway.
And then the conflict, such as it was, is promptly ignored, and no lesson is learned, as far as I can tell.
There's just a lack of direction in the show. It's like the writers don't really have a clear idea of what the show should be, or what they want their characters to do and experience. It's like they kind of want it to be Fi M 2.0, but they don't really commit to it.
One of the ways they do this is by recycling Fi M plots, like "Read It And Weep". Okay, a bit derivative, but fine, sure, new audience. Except instead of using this opportunity to introduce a cool new character and do some character work and world building like in that Fi M episode, it just involves a lot of shenanigans from the existing cast around Pipp being sick. Also, Sunny is inexplicably keeping this sickness hidden from Pipp's mom. It's... kinda weird. They also tie in some of the arc with Misty and Opaline.
It's admittedly not that bad, but it creates confusing expectations, especially for older viewers coming from Fi M (not just bronies, I imagine).
Optimism is a duty.A Zephyr Heights Mystery was announced for the Switch. It comes out on the 17th!
"The Mane 6 are back and taking the magic of friendship to new heights! Hop into a new pony adventure and discover the mystery behind why Zephyr Heights is turning upside down!"

The Protomen enhanced my life. The new video game comes out tomorrow.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Any objections to adding Critical Backlash to G5 (its fans find the hate it gets from G4 fans as unfair as an unrealistically high bar, it's enjoyably enough by its own merits, and overlooks G4's flaws/controversies)?
I'd say so. If you look at the comments on the game video there's a lot of people being upset that G4 didn't get a game while the 'lesser' G5 got two.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Hmm, that's fair enough, though I thin there are some genuine problems with G5 regardless of what G4 fans think of it. Many of the problems I have identified here are fairly independent of what I think of G4, I think.
Does the backlash need to lead to unexpected popularity, though? Because that doesn't seem to be the case either from what I understand.
Optimism is a duty.No Such Thing as Bad Publicity is when it makes it more successful, Critical Backlash doesn't require that. Nor are there restrictions on where the criticism comes from/is over.
Also, it seems there's notable Twitter drama going on over the G4 vs G5 issue. This suggests that some agree that the backlash G5 gets from G4 fans is unfair.

But can we prove all the backlash G5 has been getting has made it more successful though?
And what if there's people who simply just don't like Gen 5 because of its weak writing? After all, no one's debating on if Gens 1 and 3 are better than Gen 4, let alone how they compare to Gen 5 and that's because Gens 1 and 3 had pretty weak writing with Gen 4 being the first MLP generation with good writing.
Did anyone play the video game? (If so, how is it? the trailer looked cute and fun.)
The Protomen enhanced my life.&Critical Backlash does not require it makes the work objectively more successful or that it be seen as good/well written, just some finding it not as bad as the complaining about it suggests.
Or is it Broken Base as fans debating the quality as opposed to those going in hearing about the complaints finding it not as bad as suggested?

Do you have proof of the critical backlash? Where did you hear that from?
Optimism is a duty.I've seen it in that it has multiple people online saying they're fans, defending it, and even that the enjoy it despite not caring for G4. And compared to Pony Life it has more fan content which I deem the metic of popularity.
Is that more Broken Base as opposed to those who hear about the G5 complaints finding them overblown?
And thoughts on Fanwork-Only Fans applying to G5?

More on the G4/G5 Twitter feud.
According to this, there are many G5 fans who don't care for G4, thoughts about that?
One of the 22-minute specials came out today.
Perhaps contested sequel would be a better fit for G5?
Scar himself looks like foreign, weak, and with very female moves.
There was no season 2, that was chapter two of season 1. There won't be a season 2, precisely because season 1 did not have enough to work with, amongst other things.
