I've assembled the thing after a long while, but it feels like it's missing something. (I mean, aside from the girl's new real name.) don't need this anymore :v

e: And in searchable form (I might be done this time, unless someone has further feedback)

    Last update 1/22/19
  • Name: Emery
    • Magical girl name: Paladin
  • Origin: America, 2033
  • Age: 14 (was 28)
  • Appearance:
    • Normal form: Very tall and slightly bulkier than your average 14-year-old girl, but otherwise astoundingly ordinary. Brown shoulder-length hair, bland fashion sense, wears glasses.
    • Magical form: Looks about the same, objectively, but with much more charisma and presence. The hair is now up in a ponytail (and if magic made it a bit longer to enhance the look, well, who's counting?), and the clothes, while still clothes, look a lot more like your prototypical shining armor.
    • Magic color: Pink ("Listen. I don't care if it's stereotypical. It's a good color. Shut up.")
  • Personality: Having spent her entire previous life in the closet, even she doesn't really know much about herself yet — but she knows she cares about people.
  • Back story:
    • As you might have gathered by now, Emery is (was?) transgender. Rather inconveniently, she didn't realize this until the world started melting and a goddess pulled her outside of time and reshaped her whole body.
    • The metaphorical raincloud of dysphoria made it difficult for her to do things, and she graduated from high school with middling grades and fumbled through several menial jobs that made just enough for rent and groceries before inevitably being fired for some avoidable mistake.
    • After the latest occurrence of this, she was wandering the streets, wondering if she should even bother going home, when she stumbled across the monsters for the first time. They weren't after her, at first, but after Emery tried (ineffectually, of course) kicking in what looked like a kneecap-analogue, they decided she needed to be next. Luckily for Emery, that was when the goddess stepped in.
  • Trait: In her previous life, she subconsciously became very good at metaphorically hiding. This translated to a talent for literally hiding in the new life.
  • Transformation class: Magic linking
  • Spell specialization: Defensive support
    • Magic Missile (basic spell): A magic arrow fired from the hand that will fly straight in spite of gravity and weather conditions; though it loses energy and thus does less damage the farther it flies, until it completely dissipates at about 100 meters.
    • Purify (complex spell): Used on corrupted humans to rid them of the evil that took them over. Their magical defense must already be pierced, and you have to place your hand directly on them and channel for at least three seconds; the more severe the corruption, the longer it takes.
    • Share Spells (class spell): 30s cast, grant linked girls ability to cast your spells (except class spells)
    • Borrow Spells (class spell): 30s cast, gain ability to cast linked girls' spells (except spells shared by another linker)
    • Status Check (basic spell): One target, touch/link range. Learn target's health, emotional state, and remaining spellpower.
    • Intercede (basic spell): One target, linked girls only. Teleport next to the target under attack and body-block the threat with a short-lasting deflector shield. Even if the attack bypasses normal defenses, it will hurt you less than normal and your target not at all. It's totally not a ripoff of Link Block
    • Rapid Cure (basic spell): One target, touch/link range. Massively accelerates the target's natural healing. (In the video-game way where that's purely a good thing, mind. No weird side-effects here.) Effect diminishes over time, but takes several minutes to fade entirely.
    • Share Senses (complex spell): One target, touch/link range. After several seconds of focus, gain the ability to see through the target's eyes and hear through their ears, or grant a willing target the use of yours. (Other senses can also be used, if this is necessary, but sight and sound are traditional and most likely to actually be useful.) Overrides normal senses and lasts until dismissed (by either party) or disrupted.
    • Vanish (complex spell): One target, touch/link range. After several seconds of focus, the target fades from the perception of sapient minds. This is a perception filter, not true invisibility, so it only hides the target from sapients (not technology or non-sapient animals) and breaks if the target does something to draw attention to themself.

@Lovely Magician Savvy: You have a typo for Turtle Walk that had me almost dying laughing, but anyway, looks good.

Just want to clarify; is Copycat creating a physical copy or an illusion? If it's a physical copy, it shouldn't be able to fight.

EDIT: Oh, wingedcatgirl sorry I didn't see your post yet. I'll check it out now.

@Firock Finion Sorry about the typo, spellcheck. Okay, copy is only a non physical illusion that can't fight. I went back to the sheet and changed it to reflect that.

@Lovely Magician Savvy: Alright then, "Lady Magicae" is accepted. I'll edit you into the character list shortly.

Oh by the way everyone there's an active character list at the bottom of the first signup post now.

@wingedcatgirl: Well I'm not sure why you linked it as a google doc rather than just copy paste it into a normal post, but it looks decent. I still need an actual name, but it could be a changed name rather than the one they were born with. The back story should include whatever happened with them when the cataclysm was starting.

Spells wise, only problems I see are Share Senses doesn't have a prerequisite to casting; also since suddenly overriding someone else's senses in the middle of combat could be a big mistake, I'd say it should require the other girl's consent before their own senses can be changed. Paladin changing her senses to theirs wouldn't require consent however, since that has no effect on the other girl. It also wouldn't hurt to remind in your sheet that Share Spells doesn't allow other girls to use the class spells, or stack with Borrow Spells.

@Truth Hurts 22: Certainly fine, signups are still open; they'll remain open after the game starts too. I'm still not sure on when this will start exactly; I know like, two other people who have told me they want to make a signup but have yet to post here, so I am like, kinda waiting on them?

Anyway, if it would help your decision making you can read through this thread so far to see what I've commented on the other signups; could give you some idea of what to plan for with your ideas.

I'm still not sure exactly when we'll actually start start. I'm only certain that it will be no earlier than this coming weekend.

Eperu is done. Not feeling too confident about it though, I tend to get things wrong when it comes to build-your-own-powers things like these. Especially in the field of power levels/consistency.

Timers to measure time, thermometers to measure thermomets, mometers to measure mom, and measuring containers to measure measurements.

Because copy-pasting would destroy the formatting and I don't feel like re-doing that every time. I'll put it in a post when the final draft is done, though — I do want people to be able to ctrl+f the thread for it.

e: As for a prerequisite to Share Senses, I'm not really sure what would be a relevant one, other than a long cast time. (I didn't mention cast times on anything because I don't know how to balance that kinda thing...)

I see several drawbacks to doing it like that... It's not like the doc isn't public, it's just linked instead of posted directly. And even that only until I finish it.

For the record, the markup doesn't break if you save it to a Notepad doc. The Google Docs font messes up the apostrophes, somehow.

It's not the font, it's just set to automatically slant quote marks. You can turn it off if you're using it in desktop, i think it's in the tools section.

Google Docs breaking apostrophes is a "feature" that can be disabled (I've long had it off by default), so I think there is, in fact, nothing stopping me from doing it like that.

@Atlas Stratus: I'm not familiar with what, "the mythical armed snake" is.

You still don't have a spell specialization written in. Since the only non-familiar spell you have is Cornered Predator I'm guessing the specialization would either be a melee type or maybe a "natural/animal weaponry" kind of specialization. Speaking of Cornered Predator though, I'd want that freezing effect on hit enemies to have the usual arbitrary boss immunity.

Also, my intention with the familiar spells was that they would be passive buffs or transformations to the familiar; not spells performed by the familiar itself. Especially since doing it that way with the rules I had written in would basically allow you to loophole through the specialization restriction.

@wingedcatgirl: Share senses is not the most significant spell so I would be okay with a short casting time. Five seconds of concentration or maybe a short spell chant, something like that.

  • Name: Eleanor "Nelly" Dupre
    • Magical girl name: Renault
  • Origin: Nantes, France, circa 1830
  • Age: 18, originally a 59 y/o woman
  • Appearance:
    • Normal: Nelly stands at 5 feet, 7 inches, and is so thin that many people assume she's malnourished (she was, but that's not important). She has long reddish-brown hair that she prefers to keep tied up in a ponytail, along with wide hazel eyes and a pudgy nose that's been broken at least once. When it comes to fashion, Nelly is quite modest; a simple white dress (with a skirt similar to this though obviously not cheetah print) with a pair of black tights for, well, modesty.
    • Magical: Once transformed, Nelly gains a few extra inches in height, topping off at 6 whole feet, and her hair gets let loose, a silky back-length head of bright purple. Her dress turns into a two-piece ensemble, with a knee-length puffy skirt colored like a tricolor cockade and a form-fitting blue shirt with a white collar and rounded shoulder sleeves. And, her costume comes with a pair of ballet shoes.
    • Magic color: Royal Purple
  • Personality: Nelly is - or rather, was - an incredibly feisty girl. Full of vim and vigor and more than half a mind to make herself heard, there's very little that Nelly takes sitting down. Always sure of herself even when common sense says otherwise, Nelly is too proud to admit defeat or failure, or to even understand that she can't always get her way. She lacks the typical hotheadedness that one would expect from a person so set in their ways, however. Nelly is actually quite an open and friendly girl, nary a bad bone in her body! Or, perhaps it's better to say that she isn't malicious. Selfish and stubborn to a fault, her genuine friendliness can only do so much.
  • Back story: Nelly was born to a France that valued its women little more than it valued its chamber pots. Constantly belittled and looked over, Nelly grew a hearty displeasure with the royals who sought only for themselves, and quickly found herself a friendly face in the poor working class. Around when she was 20 years of age, having spent the majority of her childhood helping the sick when others would not, the famous French Revolution kicked off, sending the political and social standing of France into disarray. With the possibility of change given to her, Nelly was quick to join the fray, fighting against the government with her people.
    • By the time the revolution came to a rocky conclusion, blood staining the streets, Nelly had grown to love the fight, the struggle. It seemed adventure called to her weary heart, so it was a lucky thing that France had quickly found a new leader. Napoleon, in the ruins of French royalty, had his eyes set on reclaiming France's image, and went to war. Nelly joined the growing army, fitting in easily as a vivandièrenote  for the years to come. Napoleon's army was faced with adversity after disaster, but Nelly's passion for action and her nation never wavered. Even when Napoleon was eventually exiled and his efforts left in vain, she found herself inspired by his ideals. Alas, time would be cruel to Nelly in the years following Napoleon's downfall. Back to working as a caretaker for the sick, Nelly was lucky to have survived the many years relatively intact, but she was growing weaker by the minute. She was practically on her death bed, bedridden and unable to move some days, when the sky grew black...
  • Trait: High Damage Tolerance. She can take quite the beating compared to her comrades.
  • Transformation class: Magic Artifact
    • Artifact: Fleur de Bouclier - a bracelet she wears on her right wrist adorned with a bright purple iris. When transformed, the iris expands into a round white shield, emblazoned with a purple fleur-de-lis.
  • Spell specialization: Tanky, ie, spells geared towards drawing enemy fire and protection.
    • Magic Missile (basic spell): A magic arrow fired from the hand that will fly straight in spite of gravity and weather conditions; though it loses energy and thus does less damage the farther it flies, until it completely dissipates at about 100 meters.
    • Barrique (basic spell): Thrusting her shield in any direction, Nelly can shift sections of the environment around her as a mean of protection. The creation cannot be more than 7 feet tall or wide (or more than 3 feet thick), though she is able to shape the barriers as she sees fit - they can be straight, at an angle, curved, etc.
    • Railler (basic spell): A ring of magical light spawned from the rim of her shield that Nelly can throw. When it hits somebody, friend or foe, the ring binds itself around their head, and they are forced to focus their attacks on her. The effect ends either when the target lands a hit on her or after 5 minutes.
    • Je T'ai Eu! (basic spell): Two magical vines unfurl from Nelly's shield, grasping onto her target and capable of pulling them to her, or vice versa. Has a range of 30 feet, and the vines can only grapple their target so much. They can manage to wrap around something exactly once over - she cannot use them to completely ensnare something.
    • Avec Toi (basic spell): Summons a magical copy of Nelly's shield over a specific target. The copy acts independently from whoever its summoned on and must be controlled by Nelly herself. If she is more than 30 feet away from the copy, it ceases to exist, and she can only produce one of them at a time.
    • Purify (complex spell): Used on corrupted humans to rid them of the evil that took them over. Their magical defense must already be pierced, and you have to place your hand directly on them and channel for at least three seconds; the more severe the corruption, the longer it takes.
    • Venez à Moi (complex spell): After channeling for 15 seconds and with a chant and a twirl in place, Nelly's shield glows a bright purple. For the next 10 minutes, any enemy projectile is drawn to her instead of its designated target. The maximum limit of this spell is 150 meters.

@Atlas Stratus: Ah, so Basmu becomes a big snake with two arms. I see.

@Truth Hurts 22: Character looks good.

I have to admit I actually do not understand what Barrique is supposed to do based on your description. Also, drawing enemy fire and protection I can see as one specialization, but I'm not sure about also adding slow, powerful attacks to that. La Gros Bonnet would be the only spell you'd have to change in that case though.

Well, with Barrique I was trying to have it so it's a more permanent but limited form of protection. Where Avec Toi is a single shield for a single person, Barrique would make cover that could be utilized by multiple people, though I can see how redundant that could get. It's essentially a more versatile way to block attacks.

And yeah, I agree with you on the cannon shot. I changed it to this:

Venez à Moi (complex spell): After channeling for 10 seconds and with a chant, Nelly's shield glows a bright purple. For the next 10 minutes, every enemy projectile is drawn to her instead of its designated target.

Not sure if that's enough to count as a Complex Spell but I wasn't sure what would really fit with the aesthetic.

@Atlas Stratus: That trait is probably gonna be a double edged sword at times, since it'll mean reverting back to normal faster than she would normally; if you're alright with that though, it's fine with me.

I should've realized before that of course Uprising of Faunas in either trait or spell form is gonna be situational; if there simply aren't animals around then it's not gonna be usable. Plus while you could certainly command them to attack an enemy, that will only do harm if the enemy's protection is already pierced, since the animals don't have magic. Again, if you're alright with that anyway then I'm good to accept it; though it should have a casting requirement. Like, 15 seconds of concentration I think, or a more complex requirement.

@Truth Hurts 22: Some redundancy in spells is fine; almost to be expected with the specialization system. Having slightly different spells with the same end goal in mind but different ways of accomplishing it just means that it's about choosing which one best fits the situation.

What I meant though is that I don't understand what it does. So the end result is a stationary barrier of some sort, but I don't understand your description of the process that gets to it. Maybe if you were to describe it more fully, and/or like how you would use it in a post?

As for Venez à Moi, premise is fine, though I think it should have a maximum effective range; I wanna say probably the same as the linking class range, 150 meters. Also probably a higher casting requirement given Renault's class and the effectiveness of it; at least like 30 seconds of concentration or a more complex requirement of some sort.

@R Alexa21th & Lovely Magician Savvy: Both look great to me. [tup]
