Spectrum. Each user has a different kind of electromagnetic wave that does something different. Radio waves can induct currents in metal, infrared can project heat, ultraviolet can cause chemical changes and so forth despite all being electromagnetic waves.

My story is inspired by The Darkest Minds and The Gifted, with powers based on 'waves'. (Like sound waves, seismic waves, electromagnetic waves (what powers would each give?), and mental waves (psychic powers). How and in what order would the danger level be determined?
How could i explain / wave off same source causing various different powers? How could i be original with basically same premise?
And the main question, what could that event be? I'm out of ideas. The powers would only manifest in the next generation, and i'm unsure if the powers should breed true.
The story is set in Finland (a country in north europe) in the 2010's-2020's, how would the time and place affect the actions and the consequences?
